I have since started using a normal Vallejo Game Color black wash - found a super conveniently priced 200 ml jar that will last forever.
200ml should indeed last forever. Unless you knock it over of course, in which case you might only get a few models out of it... Pro-tip: don't do that.

Anoying that the wash had such an effect. You live and learn I guess. How are you finding the Vallejo washes? I really like the GW ones, and am curious to see how they compare.

The 200ml jar was £11 shipped, how much is a (35ml?) jar of Nuln Oil?
I cannot make a comparison in terms of using them because I have never used GW washes/paints, only Vallejo, but I did find videos on Youtube of a guy doing a direct comparison of the black wash and he was saying the 200ml is a no-brainer, essentially same results at a fraction of the cost.
I use three washes: black, flesh and umber (brown/earth tone). Only the black comes in a big jar AFAIK.

Model is finished and based, will post images later if I find the time to shoot them.

You're being too generous to GW. It's 24 ml. Only costs €6,30 though, so it's at least cheaper to purchase a single bottle.

The black wash is the main one I use, it's also the only one which has ran out for me so far. So it's not as big a deal that the others are smaller.

Thanks, it is indeed Ghazak's wolf.
Found it cheap on eBay, the seller thought it was something else less valuable :)

It's been a while since I last posted on my own thread and an update is in order.
I have been very busy at work in September, but lately I have picked back painting, on the heels of an important acquisition: an airbrush.
It is certainly a learning curve, but it's been a lot of fun so far. Even in my own unskilled hands I can see how things go faster and smoother with an airbrush, I definitely want to learn how to use it not just for priming and highlighting.
The first job with it is a unit of Phoenix Guards (6th Ed).
The interesting fact about this unit of 26 models is that only 9 are original metal models, the rest I have cloned. Admittedly they are not nearly as nice as the originals, but sitting in the rear ranks their defects won't be too noticeable.

Before I post on the PG, however I have my last brush-only job to finish.
I have to thank SpellArcher for giving me the idea for this model.
What is it? Go read his blog to get hints, I am saying no more until it is finished and ready for posting pictures of the outcome.

Sorry, I really like spider miniatures.
Sooner or later I'll get a unit of spiders, although they won't be as exciting.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Orcs and Goblins, and if weren't a lazy sack, I'd love to start an army for them. I'll just live vicariously through your glorious paint jobs here though. That's a great spider, and love your terrain/basing work.

You are way too kind about my painting skills, what I can do is not horrible but I want to become better at it. You and Fitzlock are posting some great work here.
But I do agree the O&G army is huge fun to paint, and very characterful.
Maybe if you don't want to do a whole army, you can get yourself just some nice pieces for the fun of it. And who knows after having done those the bug catches you.

PS: I forgot to mention mireadur, the quality of his work is really up there

Thanks SA!

A couple of days ago a bought a job lot of White Lions and Sisters of Avelorn on eBay.
Today my purchase arrived and it turns out it is even sweeter than I expected. Deals like this don't happen often.
13 5th Ed WL's, 40 6th Ed WL's, 16 8th Ed WL's and 14 Sisters of Avelorn at a very good price.
I see a lot of paint stripping in my future...

Phoenix Guard are looking good so far! And I'm incredibly jealous of your lot find. Been trying to find 10 more 8th Edition White Lions and the prices are INSANE. Happy stripping, and looking forward to that White Lion horde once it's all painted up!
