The leaders of Tor Koruali

The leaders of Tor Koruali
Known throughout Ulthuan as the Radiant Court

Prince Avarael Starmantle- The second son of Alkhadrik Starmantle, Avarael fulfilled his duty of joining the archer and later spear companies of Tor Koruali but without the burden of Lordship and with a gifted mind for the arcane the young Asur was overjoyed when he was sent to the White Tower to plumb the mysteries of magic. There his inquisitive mind and studious nature lent itself well to being surrounded by the greatest repository of knowledge in the world. His understanding of the mystical and arcane grew hand-in-hand with his martial skill. Through the decades of study Avarael gained proficiency in alchemy, divination, alongside an understanding of the ascetic disciplines of the Swordmasters that bordered on the sublime. First and foremost his greatest passion was melding the ethereal world of magic with the tangible physical world through arcane artifice.

During his time at the White Tower Avarael was part of many expeditions across the world where he saw and learned much. In the Giant haunted fens of Albion he found the barest sliver of one of the Polar Gates used by the Old Ones at the dawn of the world. Through careful experimentation he unlocked the shards secrets. Using Aqshy and Chamon in equal measure he melted the shard while preserving its enchantments and combined it with molten Ithilmar to fashion a helm that gave him an almost unparalleled insight to the workings of the Eight Winds. He used his new artifact to deadly and spectacular effect when he joined Eltharion during the Warden’s purge of the Badlands. He sent manacles of shadow-stuff to confound boar-riding savages and ripped the souls from greenskin leaders with spectral chains of purple light. His greatest achievement was when he saved a regiment of Asur archers from a charging Giant by conjuring a chariot of flame led by two stamping horses with manes of yellow fire and eyes of cinders. The magical construct leaped away from Avarael as an arrow does from a bow and slammed into the shouting behemoth in a huge explosion that left the monster nothing more that a sizzling pile of meat from the chest down.

As it often does, fate had it's own plans for the Loremaster regardless of those Avarael had for himself and he was called home to rule. His older brother, Marthrain, had been killed while prosecuting a campaign against the verminous rat-men of the Old World. To compound this tragedy the Starmantle volroth-kirior, their ancestral weapon, Everbright, was lost. Upon leaving his beloved seat of learning his teachers made a gift of a fabulous cincture set with Moonstone and Opals that was deeply enchanted with protective spells. So it was that an Asur that was never one to lead finds himself the Prince of an entire city. (build is Loremaster Of Hoeth with Book of Hoeth and Talisman of Preservation)

Princess Irenylon Morningcrown- Originally from the southern city of Shimmersward this Eatainian Lady was married to Marthrain Starmantle and saw to many of the day to day issues of ensuring that Tor Koruali ran smoothly. She organized the holy celebrations for the Gods and ensured that all the Mistwalker patrols in the area were supplied and coordinated so that they could support each other. In the brief window of time when a Starmantle didn't rule in Tor Koruali she lost her left arm to a Bloodletter's sword. One of the first things Avarael did when he returned home was fashion her a new arm of enchanted Quartz and Truesilver. With her new arm granting her the strength of one of the great White Lions Irenylon moves through battle impaling enemies upon her blade and crushing them in her gemstone grasp. She is greatly respected by the people of Tor Koruali and offers counsel to Avarael, which he is grateful for. (build is Prince Armor of Destiny, Ogre Blade and Potion of Foolhardiness)

Arms Commander Glorfindain Cloudfire - This Asur has a deep and abiding love for two things before all others, his homeland of Yvresse and The Hunt. From an early age Glorfindain has seen what the Demons that lurk in the mists are capable of. His hamlet was destroyed by one of their random manifestations when the sky rained liquid screams and the village’s walls were over run by huge slug-shaped monstrosities and bellowing blood demons. After the scant survivors made it to the safety of Tor Koruali’s walls Glorfindain swore himself to the Lord Starmantle’s service and started his military career. He made a far more sacred vow to Kurnous, Lord of the Hunt, that every demon he slew would be in Kurnous’ name.

Over the centuries his skill for hunting the demons grew and he was rewarded with leadership of his fellow Asur. He was rewarded by an altogether higher master with strange gifts. At night his dreams would be haunted by vales, hilltop villas or secluded settlements being overrun by demonic attacks. Using his knowledge of the lay of the land Glorfindain would always be waiting with his warriors to spring the trap and run the foul chaotic beings down. In present day Glorfindain has brought much honor to Tor Koruali in his never ending quest to kill every demon that sets hoof or claw on his beloved Yvresse and he is answerable only to the rulers of the city when it comes to matters pertaining to war. As a boon from his divine patron the Arms Commander has ridden to battle for the last eighty six years upon the back of the great blue Griffon Rahagra, named after the Father of Lions and companion to Kurnous himself. (Build is Noble, Golden Crown of Atrazar, Dragon Armor, Lance, Charmed Shield, Griffon w/Full Upgrades)

Dathlamar Sharpwave - Dathlamar is the Captain of the Eagleship Dawnchaser and a hero to the people of Tor Koruali. Outgoing and dashing he is the shining sun to Glorfindain’s stoic moon. He and his crew patrol the waters of the Shifting Isles for demonic manifestations and further a field in the Great Ocean for Druchii raiders. Dathlamor was gifted with the Deep King’s Aegis by Aislinn himself after the Yvressian captain saved the Sealord from Skaven pirates. The enchanted sword he wields, Glory, fills him with power whenever the leaders of the enemy are near so it is Dathlamor that is remembered in legend while others fade in to obscurity but it does so at a dreadful cost. His many victories and daring exploits have earned him the honor of carrying the Standard of the Tor. (build is Noble, BsB, Dragon Armor, Shield of The Merwyrm, Sword of Anti-Heroes, Ironcurse Icon)

Thalandar Silverwake - Thalandar was not born to a family of ancient noble lineage or storied mages but of simple fishers. When he talent for magic was discovered she was sent from her village to the Tor to join other young hopeful applicants that were on their way
to the Tower of Hoeth when tragedy struck and destiny played a hand. The young elf maid and her escort never made it to Tor Koruali and a detachment of Mistwalkers and Frostmane Riders were dispatched to look for the missing Asur. What they found was the bodies of the escort spear elves which had been set upon and slain by demonic temptresses. Following the sounds of crackling flames the Asur warriors found a circle of blasted and burning trees which were splattered with the remains the hellish murderers. At the circle’s center Thalandar was unconscious with a black ring upon her finger that had runes worked upon it which shone with the heat of the forge.

When the young elf was returned to the Tor and roused from her sleep-like state the budding mage had no recollection of what happened or where the ring came from. The ring resisted all attempts of removable. Knowing the legends about such an artifact it was decided that Thalandar would stay in Tor Koruali away from prying eyes and be taught as best as could be managed.

With Avarael taking Lordship of the city he has taken the enigmatic young mage as his personal student, improving vastly upon her grasp of the Eight Winds and increasing her control of the primal forces at her command. She has repaid this generosity by becoming a valued member of any patrol she is a part of. To this day the ring retains most of it’s mystery but it has proven to be a boon upon the battlefield where it’s blazing power sears clean the sacred soil of Ulthuan free of taint, demonic or otherwise. (Build is Mage, Lvl 2, Dispel Scroll and Khaine’s Ring of Fury)

The City of Tor Koruali
The Last Tower, home to Ladrielle’s Column

Founded in the years after the first Great Incursion Tor Koruali was to be a refuge for those of the Asur that wanted to return to a simple life of contemplation and serenity. Eldorath Starmantle and his household laid the foundations of the city on the far flung edge of Yvresse to escape the growing kingdoms of western Ulthuan. The waystone at the center of the city’s central spire is a lynchpin of the Great Vortex in the eastern reaches of Ulthuan as well as a part of one of the wonders of Elvish creation, Ladrielle’s Column.

As it came to be realized that the mists of Yvresse that had so captivated the hearts of the elves settling the area were also an abyss in which one could lose their life as well as their soul the fixed locations of the waystones were the easiest way of telling ones location. Ladrielle’s Column was created to be a beacon that could be seen for miles around both for travelers on land and mariners out at sea. The foundation of the Column is the great waystone of the city set in the Prince’s citadel. As the rune carved menhir performs is usual function of drawing away excess magical energy it filters out the wind of Hysh from it’s intake and directs the light magic upward through the huge central chamber of the Prince’s citadel that runs from it’s foundation to its loftiest reaches. At the top of the spire the crackling pillar of light magic enters an array of focusing crystals that are monolithic in scale. The multifaceted crystals magnify and direct the brilliant energy upward into the sky in the form of a blue-white column that can be seen for leagues in any direction on land as well as out to sea.

The first and most obvious application of the marvel of eldritch engineering are the benefits it brings to travelers of the region renowned as difficult to navigate. Named for the Lady of Mists who guides those who are lost The Column saves Asur that have lost their way in the impenetrable mists and sailors that are traversing the maze of the Shifting Isles. The second benefit was discovered when Archmage Condirthracelle realigned the crystal matrix and banished a Demonic horde that was assailing the city in a glaring nova of cleansing light. So does the city of Tor Koruali serve as a bastion of Ulthuan thrice over, as a guide to those who are in need, a conduit of magical power in the Great Vortex and as a bulwark against demonic incursions.

The Wayward Priory - A religious order dedicated to Ladrielle and her philosophy of guiding those in need. The priestesses are based at The Seven Sisters shrine and work in tandem with the Mistwalkers to patrol the surrounding area. For millennia the holy warriors of the Lady of Mists have fought against monsters from the Anulii and Demons from the Realm of Chaos. Presently led by Lady-Vigilant Aurynistar Stillnight the Priory has fought many battles beside the forces of Tor Koruali. After the Sisters turned the tide of battle at Nostolique Falls by send volley after volley of arrows into the accursed ranks of the enemy and slaying the Screaming Bride of Slaanesh Avarael labored for seventeen years crafting his thanks in the form of an enchanted bow for each sister. In place of arrows these arcane weapons fire bolts of Hyish energy that immolate their targets, doubly so against those of evil intent. To Aurynistar Avarael gave his crowning achievement, the magic bow that would come to be known as Foedirge.

Thank you and it's on it's way! I was drawn to Yvresse in the new armybook by the idea of Demons haunting the mists and the people of that Kingdom continuing the war Aenarion strted all those thousands of years ago.

The Terror

The conclave of Swordmasters known as Soulvoid's Terror earned their name at the battle of Finuval Plain. After Prince Tyrion and his Silverhelms made their storied charge and the main battle lines were engaged all was chaos. At the heart of the Druchii counterattack was Dreadlord Feuris Soulvoid and his attendant company of Executioners. Under a banner wrought of magically frozen blood these consecrated killers were pushing hard into the Asur advance. Lathmenion Steelwind, the then and current Bladelord of The Terror, saw the High Elf assault faltering and signaled his fellow warrior aesitics to intervene. Although the guardians of Khaine's temple were dread warriors and elves of tempered mettle the Swordmasters had given over their lives to the study of every nuance of martial skill, not just base butchery, and what followed was a celebration of Asur battle prowess. Feuris was carried away by the last two remaining Executioners clutching the stump of his right arm screaming oaths of vengeance. Since that day the Swordmasters led by Lathmenion have won many accolades and lost many friends in their endless quests to achieve martial perfection and defend Ulthuan from threats.

After his spell weaving saved The Terror outside the walls of Copher Avarael Starmantle found a ready bodyguard in the ranks of Lathmenion's conclave. Together Avarael and The Terror fought their way through many perils. Cynathari cultists in Tor Elyr, Minotaurs in Laurelorn and Greenskin bersererks outside Brionne have all felt the wrath of The Terror. When Avarael took his leave of the White Tower Lathmenion and his disciples went with him, not at the Loremasters order but out of friendship. Through forests of monsters and oceans of demons they have carved their legend.

The Wall

Where other kingdoms started a levy system under the reign of Morvael the Impetuous Yvresse has had it in place for dozens of centuries. Because of the constant threat of Demonic attack every Asur has contributed to the defense of the realm since the Kingdom was founded. This proportionately larger strength has been hidden form greater Ulthuan by the Princes of the Kingdom. Always they would lend a portion of their household's strength to the common cause while leaving enough troops behind to protect against rampaging devils.

Eldorath's Wall was formed by the first Lord Starmantle as it became clear that the Demonic raids suffered by his people weren't the last gasps from the Great Incursion but an ongoing threat with no end in sight. While the nobles of his House fought as they had in Aenarion's army, as heavy cavalry, the artisans, laborers and merchants that followed Eldorath were trained by veterans of past wars and formed in to companies of spears. Again and again High Elves carrying tall spears and shields of deep blue with shining stars of polished quartz and silver on their fronts were the anvil that hellish armies were broken upon. After the Red Autumn and the defeat of Coalgoldurrogfin the Enigma Eldorath said that it wasn't any bulwark of stone that protected his lands but the wall of valor made by his people. The charge of The Wall has always been to protect the people and city of Tor Koruali and as such the spear companies rarely leave the soaring ramparts of the city.

Over the course of millenia The Wall has had a turbulent record of battle. Its members have written their actions across the ages in blood, both of their enemies and that of fallen heroes. At present there are three companies of The Wall each numbering around seven hundred and fifty elves apiece. The Cobalt Avengers led by Hacarith Wavedance are a dour brotherhood that are tenacious and unrelenting on the battlefield. Aragadir Deepglen's Sapphire Tallshields are a company know for their daring in war and will follow their leader anywhere. Silevel Fairfury and the Cerulean Victors are heroes all that fought in the depthless mists alongside Glorfindain during the March of Swords.
