Had my 4th game today and fielded the Archmage on Star Dragon this time.

It felt a lot like a trap. Between failing to cast, getting dispelled, and getting the odd spell off in exchange for not charging, this feels like a dragon in hand is better than 2 in the bluff kinda situation. You chase two purposes you get none.

I’m going to try and run one more funny Illusion combo I’ve cooked up and then probably just go back to the old Caledorian ways of hard charging.

So I had a moment of inspiration when it was suggested I do an army shot. Well I’m gonna go all out. I only have one gear haha.

So I’m building an armies on parade display case.

I bought a resin terrain piece and will print a background for it.

It’s text to image. I’m really terrified of this stuff but I need something specific quick.

Is that the path to corruption?

Well, I guess in 40k you would now be in line for a death sentence for dealing with an abominable intelligence

Getting closer with the Dragon Princes. I long for the day when I can assemble them and not have to pick them apart to paint the interior.

But they are coming along nicely, soon I’ll steer to finish them individually which is really fun and rewarding with the detail work.

Getting close to finishing my first Dragon Prince.

I also got to glue him together, so I’m pretty happy now.

Gotta do bleached bone highlights, white blink points, silver highlights, finish the base and the gems and freehand

I’ve done the bleached bone brush highlights and just have the white to go, I also started on the Ithilmar barding, you can see what a difference those edge highlights make for contrast at this point.

Just the base to go. The hots spots have been added. I’m liking the balance of getting a whole unit to a certain point with the rough techniques and then finishing it off model by model with the fine techniques.

I have been working on the armies on parade board lately. I’m very nearly done. Just have to match some stone on my bases to the ones on the board.

Maybe a raid on the Wastes or even Naggaroth and the north where some servants of Morathi secretly worship.

It was meant to be a little ambiguous as it’s also being used for my 30k Dark Angels.

I have mostly finished that scene since the army is almost fully painted. I’ll have to stage my HEs once I complete the Dragon Princes

Setup the scene roughy, I’m now wondering if I need to get some tall flight stands for the Eagles.

There is quite a bit of wingspan in the army unlike the 30k army so it’s looking pretty cramped on the ground level.
If I get the eagles airborn at different levels I think it will balance out the space within and add interest. Will just have to be careful to not obscure too much.

It's looking good, but the wingspans are indeed making it difficult to get a good view of everything. Though from my view, the biggest Problem is the green dragon in the front, whose wings obscure a lot. I suppose he doesn't fit at the location of the bolt thrower?

Indeed. The HE dragon sculpt is really good, but it is a problematic poses for display and at times gaming.

Maybe I can make a tactical rock to elevate it more but no matter what it’s going to take up a lot of real estate.

I love it!

I think swapping the green dragon for either the LSG or the RBT in the back can fix the issue. Alternatively, just swapping the dragons around might also work. The tall dragon looks very menacing on top of the tower, but he'd do so even without it. And the tree does make sense on the ground ;) And if you swap them around, you add more variety in hight on the ground and give the green dragon a place to shine as well.

Of course, you could also change the models, but I would personally try a few different poses before taking a knife to a finished model.

The wingspan of the green dragon is the main impediment to all those seeking suggestions. I’ll try putting him up in the tower but I think it will be tough to fit.

The pose looks cool but it’s actually hard to harm with as well. Models are usually as tall as its head so you can’t even get base to base. And your own units have a hard time fitting next to it in multi charge situation.

Might have to add an inch of height and I’m think the rock on base is the place to do it. Easiest to hide and repaint

So had a couple of games today and won both. The first was a really tough matchup for my opponent where his WoC had 3 big units with Frenzy. I pulled it apart with my redirectors and setup a triple charge with my 2 dragons and Princes on the last turn.

The second was against a dwarf gun line where he made the mistake of putting the Anvil, a grudge thrower, and iron drakes on the same hill. Turn 2 it was a dragon magnet and I got to fight twice because of the overruns. Too many eggs in that basket.

But the main lesson was that the OSL is photographing really well! The Star Lance is glowing, and the dragon fire victim looks like a member of whatever unit is being charged getting consumed by dragon fire.

I left the dragons alone in the army cave too long. Seems they have bred haha.

This will be the magic carpet noble proxy for a Caledorian theme.

Thank you very much! He’s gonna be counts as Warden of Saphery Noble, with Magic Carpet. Too bad ruby ring and carpet are same section or I’d do a Prince to make the comp tighter

Did some work on Toothless today, using a chromatic black technique to have warm tones on the underside where the ground would introduce earthy colours to the black sheen, and the cool tones on the upper half where the sky would do the opposite.

It’s a great way of painting a model that’s mostly black in my opinion as it adds a lot of variety and subtly to a usually flat and boring task.

He will represent the Warden of Saphery Noble on Flying Carpet in some lists.

Starting in on my Swordsmasters.

I once again want to highlight the virtues of the transparency focused paint process.

I’ve spent a small amount of time prepping these units with volumes from the airbrush and highlights from the dry brush.

By the time I get to the brush, there is little work to be done. I’m tinting the model now. No blending, minimal final edge highlights, and these models are done.

I feel like by the time I get to the exhausting part, I’m 90 percent done, and this means I can’t paint more faster with less burnout.

The inks block the colour in, shade and leave mid tones to some highlights visible. It’s like an all in one step. Only the final highlights have to be done with opaque acrylics.
