High Elf content incoming

#1 Post by Pash »

Just a quick shameless plug. I'm trying to get the subscriptions up on my humble Yootoobs channel. Helps me try and make this thing worthwhile. If you've got a moment and feel like helping out, please hit that subscribe button 🙏 Thanks in advance, ya legends! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-beAd ... A6penufxzQ

I have been a bit quiet on the High Elf front recently (although there is already plenty High elf games on my channel). I am gearing up for more games in the near future, as soon as I get wind of the leaked rules =P~

Hope to be back in (Glittering) force soon!

Hey Pash, there is one thing I would love to see one your channel: explanation of how and why you play. I know for a lot of people here, it must bé kind of obvious, but to me, to bé able to have Access to the restons why good player such as yourself do things would be a huge help in m'y own game, and definitively another reason for me to keep looking at your videos.
I Hope I'm not crossing a line with this little unsollicited idea. Thing is, I really struggle with my elves, and am trying to understand how people play at a competitiv level :)
Anyway, keep on the channel, it's fun to watch!

Thanks chief, always appreciate feedback and suggestions! I've had a couple of requests to do something other than battle report, so I am putting together some ideas on what to do next. I'll make sure to cover those points when I get the chance to do another non-batrep video :-D

It was really interesting to ear both of your takes about what makes HE works and win in a tourney setting. It's a bit frustrating to see the best (only?) things we have for tourney are sisters and dragons.
Anyway, would love to listen to this kind of talk for hours ☺️

Hah, we could go on for hours talking about it! I think Eric and I agree on most of the major points (ie. Sisters and Dragons are good) and differ on some of the details (e.g. Dragon Princes vs Skycutters) that there could be a decent amount of discourse for a show. Maybe we'll get our heads together and discuss something in the near future. The future for High Elves is very exciting at the moment, so lots to chat about! :D

Agreed with Vindicte, you guys talked for over 30mins but it felt like it was over much quicker than that, very enjoyable. Keen for the upcoming content

Ok, you've asked and i've delivered. Here is a competitive army list for each of the High Elf army builds. See if you think it's as spicy as I do 😎

Okay I have to say, the single-drop + 45 Shadow Warrior Ambush I did not even consider. It sure is...something! Maybe it's playable? I have a feeling though the moment you go up against any Brett list you're getting 20-0.

That Seaguard list shows some big balls buddy, 45 shadow warriors haha, never saw that coming. We have some awesome new toys for grand army (looking at you RoF), and Chracian war host warrants some experimentation. But to us non-believers in the Seaguard list, I throw down the gaunlet to you, and say prove me wrong. General consensus about SW was they are rather meh. But would love to see you do your work. Maybe the 6 Bolt throwers gives you the output required...Against aggro armies that means 2 turns of shooting if you get 1st turn. I will happily admit I underestimated the list:)

Ultimately though I wanted some viable alternative options other than Star Dragon and Sisters....

The Sea Guard list is wild! But what the heck, definitely worth trying out if you have the models. I would love to read about the results.

Brets are always a tough match up but I wonder why you think it'll be a 20-0? They can only go so fast and they have no idea where your Shadow Warriors will go or when they will turn up. They might not turn up until T5, at which point chasing them down with peg knights will be tricky to do! However, as has been pointed out by a few people, i think the list is illegal, as I need two more units for the three unit minimum AND the "free" Ambush is only for US10, so i'll have to pay for the Ambush on the second unit of Shadow Warriors. However, that's not a bad thing, as that means it's yet another unit to roll Ambush for, so it might actually benefit from it. Also, Brets absolutely hate Through & Through on their lances! And given then average Bret player has the tactical acumen of a French Peasant :P they'll probably not realise this until they stay losing a lot of horsey dudes :D

Yeah, anything to spice things up would be appreciated. I think that the HE AJ is on par with the WOC AJ. Both add something to the Grand Army, have one AoI that's worth considering, and one AoI that's tricky to figure out. I've played Heralds of Darkness at an (online) event, so i'm a sucker for trying to figure out a sub-par combination and make it work. I'll probably give the Seaguard a run out at some point, so watch this space!

I think I actually might have 80% of that army build painted. More, if you're happy to stand in Sisters as Shadow Warriors  The limiting factor will be actual events on the calendar, as I currently have nothing until the Warhammer World event end of Apr. I think i'd like to take High Elves to that one (again). Just need to experiment and find out what flavour of High Elves and see how I get on! Will report back on it like i've done with the last one (which can be seen here - viewtopic.php?p=961530#p961530).

I got around to watching your video on the High elves and it was inspiring, even for a fluff-first player like me. I wish I had the bits to get going kitbashing some Chracian woodsmen.

Yeah you'd have to change it up a bit -- but it should be possible. Maybe 6 Bolt Throwers is enough against Bretts, but I feel like you'd end up hurriedly chasing after Bretts as they run after the 6 Bolt Throwers, shooting plenty of shots but not killing much. Maybe I've got it wrong -- give it a try and let us know. Content!

Nothing would give me greater pleasure that endlessly pushing bolts through lances and lances of Brets  Will need to see if I can arrange something like that for the future. The problem with that list, of course, is that you only have one drop, so your opponent has the ability to out-deploy you. However, you can more ONE of those RBTs before the first turn, so you could be sneaky and move one they were aiming for to stick it on the extreme flank and start kebabing those tinmen from another angle!

Thanks chief. While I am mostly a competitive player, I do love High Elves and their lore. Have done ever since I started WFB back in 7th Ed and I doubt it will ever really go away. That's why this release is exciting for me - new toys!

For Chracian Woodsmen, I was thinking of using the plastic White Lion kit with HE Archer arms. I have some kicking around that i'll try and put together. Will report back on how that turns out.

Good luck with the conversions! I have both archer bodies and a dozen sword and board armed HE, made for Oathmark. Since my hopes about Sword and board Ships company was in vain I am thinking of the possibility of remaking them into Woodsmen. Not as good as White lions bodies but I have them. But the problem is two-handed axes. I might have about 10 Wildwood ranger glaives lying around that could work. But I had plans to use them to convert my own Wildwood rangers.

The oathmark elves are so damn good, fit absolutely perfectly with the 6th ed era models too, I've got some that I'm wanting to convert into footmen for my baggage train/encampment diorama

Got together with Charlie Hanley, one of the best (currently highest ranked!) UK players to discuss his tournament-winning High Elf list that scored max points at the world's first Aussie Comp event - Dragon's Grudge. See what you think of his list combos :D

So I played vs Ed Fawcett (of Close Order, playing for WTC Team England) and his High Elves vs my Chaos Warriors knight bus (for WTC Team Wales). It was a super swingy match up and I think there were several instances where the game could have massively swung either way. There weren't many models left at the end of the game. Hope you enjoy it!
