2000pt Caledor Rohirrim

#1 Post by Serathail »

Been lurking in the forum for a while without an account but looks like I'm finally getting around to posting as well, hope I set up everything correctly.
With that being said, I'm looking for some feedback on the prototype of a cav list for a local tournament. The core idea was essentially deploying silver helms facing the enemy, DP either facing down the greatest enemy threats or triple move and enveloping on the flanks, eagles will block, bait & hunt mages/war machines as usual, BSB & Prince go whereever they are needed for extra punch, mage will try and get into dispelling position to protect the T3 elves from the terror of magic missiles as soon as possible.

Mainly I'm uncertain on the following points:
a) Should reduce the size of the army in favour of a few more powerful pieces? (e.g. battle/warbanner on BSB, cloak of beards/rampaging banner on DP, generally concentrate cav into greater blocks & supporting units rather than equally splitting etc.)
b) High magic or battle magic on the mage? My deliberations thus far go something along the lines of: Both lores allow me to nuke chaff and give the silver helms (or potentially DP if I get the points for BoC on the mage) some added survivability. Battle magic can additionally turn the dragon princes into a railgun (48" move) and pillar of fire is pillar of fire, which might additionally force the enemy to disperse further which benefits the cav. High magic counters fanatics & allows cav to get closer and gives especially the SH charges a lot of extra punch.
c) Would it make sense to exchange the eagles for tiranoc chariots (they seem tankier at ~the same price point with more punch and only a slight mobility disadvantage) and would it make sense to exchange the 3rd unit of silverhelms for archers (they shouldn't come under much pressure so they could just spend the entire game whittling down relevant units) or potentially reavers (which I think are overpriced for a unit that gets wiped out by a stray fireball, but perhaps I'm biased)?

(As some additional info, we play with a set of rules which caps units at 400pt and prevents characters from taking magic items/magical gifts if this would cause them to exceed or if they already exceeded 400pt (so you could bring a 450pt stardragon prince with basic equipment, you just couldn't buy any additional magic items) which makes sister deathstar or stardragon princes a lot less viable as well.)

Any other general feedback is also welcome of course. Hope I didn't ramble on for too long.
