Yes, the Lion Chariot as a mount option is clearly good. I'm less convinced for the non-Mount option as mentioned.

Used the Prince on chariot in a tournament recently. I was getting to grips with the game on the first day and I think I was too reticent to use him as I was trying the classic High Elf counter attack tactics and worried about him getting stuck in too early. He didn't do much on that day tbh, but he did zone dragons/terrorgheists in every game. Every opponent was pretty much terrified of him so for relatively cheap he held off some expensive models from getting stuck into my army.

On day 2 though I decided to be much more aggressive (which is how I think we have to be in this edition tbh), and he was pretty great. In the first game he basically smashed up a big block of ushabti by himself and zoned the enemy level 4 on bone dragon heavily limiting it's usefulness. We ran out of time on turn 4 but he would have picked up quite a lot more had the game gone on. By the last game I felt much more confident with the rules and he went on an absolute rampage. Through kills and panic tests from his trail of carnage he picked up: a gigantic spawn (finally got him in vs a monster and he deleted it), an exalted champion on daemonic mount with 2 dragon ogres (the enemy general, and they charged him!), the enemy level 4, a unit of 12 beserkers and a big block of 25 marauders. Game was called on turn 5 otherwise he would have gotten a unit of skin wolves too. Suffice to say he was the MVP of that game! Honestly the white sword build is great, the biggest issue with him is no swiftstride though which makes getting the charge not too simple. I had taken shadow warriors with chariot runner and feigned flight to try and bait charges with and screen him, I think with more practice maybe it can work.

Gave him Chracian hunter, Lion Chariot, shield (for magic missiles), full plate armour, the White Sword, Dragon Helm and Seed of Rebirth. 373pts

The shadow warriors I originally thought of as essentially an upgrade to screen him but I actually used them differently in 3 of the 5 games.

I'm considering using the same build on a cheaper Skycutter Prince instead for the fly and swiftstride, which would be great for going after monsters. However I found the extra oomph of the lion chariot to actually prove key given my ability to flub the measly 4 attacks of the prince. Also with the meta seemingly shifting towards shooting being able to screen him with the shadow warriors is actually pretty good.

I did have a level 4 on high magic buffing him when possible. He's a great platform for fury of khaine with the crew and lions benefitting too, and being able to give him a 5+ ward save was handy too. That said I'm planning my next list for the level 4 to go Blood of Caledor, illusion magic and the ogre blade for spectral doppelganger in a unit of dragon princes.

Most of the lists aren't making lots of friends I think. They all are character heavy, and restrict the rest of the choices to hit hard and fast.

@Axiem: thanks for posting them. Do you have an idea of the comp used by the different tournaments? So far everything seems fairly light on restrictions, but that could make a differenec.

Most of these are no comp, a few are Max 3 // Max 6 Core. I don't have visibility on comp packs for each, but it's generally normal games.

The skill ranges were all over the place from 1/2 newbies to experienced players and even 1 TK Poison archer Death Star. 1st game I played a HE player who did not have a dragon. Overall he did quite well and it came down to my dragon beating the last of his models and I ended up tabling him. However, all I had left was my dragon.

2nd game was against an experienced Brettonia player. I tried to bait him in deployment to split up his pegasus flyers and questing knights and it worked. My right swing consisted of DPs, a lion chariot, my BSB, and my dragon They killed a large unit of pegasus flyers, questing knights, his general, and his BSB. After that, my silver helms held the middle of the board long enough for my right win to come back and roll. Opal Amulet saved my dragon as his lord had a monstrous killing blow and I rolled a 3 to keep my dragon alive and then proceeded to kill him same combat.

3rd game was against another experienced Brettonia player and long story short my BSB baited his lord and Grail knights on my right wing while my dragon, dp, and chariot crushed everything in the center and left. My BSB held for several turns and my dragon came back and helped kill his General and Grail knights to complete the tabling. My opponent and I were laughing as someone asked him where his dragon-killing lord was and he responded he died to the dragon.

Quick analysis Opal Amulet on my dragon general is an absolute necessity. Falcon horn is very annoying. DPs combo charging with the lion chariot is devastating and the AM with high magic buff spells on my dragon/BSB/ DPs is also very powerful.
Sisters with Ruby Ring was very underwhelming. I had hoped for more output. However, they did shine in game 2 as they helped hold the center with my SH. Hated that they were in combat but the gamble paid off due to their Stubborn rule.

I heard you talking about this on a recent podcast -- I have no doubt you'll add some first-place finishes with enough time!


Quick Update from World Team Championships (WTC):

Top performing HE was 11/54 -- and keep in mind it's a team environment where picking the matchups is a key part. Overall HE win Rate was 40% scoring average of 11, compare that to the leaders with Brets at 65% at 11.8 and Wood Elves at 53% with 11.9, HE was definitely above average but didn't crush.

Some key points:

- WE went 8-1-6 (W/L/D) overall, with an average score of 11.9 which is a fantastic result out of 15 games;
- OnG went 15-8-7 with 30 games played and an average of 12.1, second highest;
- TK scored the highest average on their wins with 12.7, but only 10 games; this outperformed the Mortuary Cults, with scored an average of 2.1 points fewer, but had a score of 10-6-7 for a slightly higher win rate;
- Normal Warriors got crushed, scoring only 3.7 Points on average, while Wolves of the Sea performed with 11.4 Points on average;
- Small sample sizes caveat;

What, fun?

LoL, the orcs, top notch fun, love the green goons, the troll horde list a fun time to play against, (could also be the orc and gobos guys in my neck of the woods are super guys the play against). From the stats, the orc arcane journal lists seem to not really be doing well vs some of the others, and the stock orc list seems to fair better. This would be mirrored in my area as it is generally the stock orcs that are the preferred list in the cold north.

If we end up with what the rumours are suggesting and a sea guard or Charace themed arcane journal, I hope we have some way to make INF great again, or at least fun again or they may feel lack luster.

I dont want power creep, or army wide ASF, as that is less fun for all, but all armies or lists should feel usable and represent now and again.

There was also a Sister + Chariot Archmage build doing well in top tables, but running on a Lion Chariot instead of Skycutter. Eric Hung was 2/70 until last game, when he failed an impetuous test and lost 8-12 to the Brett Exile player who ended up winning it.

Quick correction, I placed 6th - another HE list from Brian made it to 7th.

I actually had a good chance of winning if my DPs charged in, but I made a series of critical mistakes (both rules and in game) that led to me combo charging a small unit of sisters thinking I could expand frontange to get my Star Dragon in on a charge (it didn't work lol). Had I only charged my dragon princes, there would have been a chance.

Also, falcon horn with veteran is stupid

Haha, all too true Now there is an item without a downside, without the possibilty to interact with it, list changing, game changing! Somebody in the dev team was in a really good mood when they wrote the rules for that. Probably the same guy that did the Frontier Axe

I hadn't even seen the Frontier Axe yet. Man, that is rediculously underpriced. 30 points for that? Now, it's not as gamebreaking as the horn, but it does make all our magic swords look crap, and it would even put them in the shadow if it was twice the points.

Hey Axiem,

I just recorded a short podcast with 2+ and dear Pash over here, you’ll get a pretty decent rundown of some big ideas we share about HE and the sister playstyle.

As for the meta, as much as I like to complain about the common pain points of the game (peg knights, green knight, some undercosted stuff), I still truly believe that discipline, good movement, good vision, good planning, and good focus (with some quick math) will win you more games than you think.

That being said, HE does force you to do a lot of work, and one thing I noticed is that in a tournament setting, that can actually be a detriment time wise. I haven’t had a chess clock pulled on me but I’ve definitely felt the time pressure to try and close out the game by hour 3.
