REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
Hey guys!
Welcome to my journey of redesigning High Elf miniatures!
I was so excited for TOW, in particular the high elves that I started looking for 3D printable options. Unfortunately, none of the available options had what I was looking for: That old school vibe of the old models but with a little bit of the modern GW style of sculps. Being a 3D artist myself I decided to give it a go and try to make my own models.
So, I started with one of my favorite units the Lother Sea Guard:
So far it has been a crazy ride! Getting the proportions right wasn't easy. I mostly based the anatomy of the new Eldar sculpts from GW, which I thought was perfect for the job.
I already finished some Silver Selms, and will be sharing pics very soon, together with some freshly printed and painted Sea Guard.

Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
Those look amazing. Nice job! I'm looking forward to the rest of your army. Keep us updated.
I do love the aestetics of the old GW models. They're a lot simpler that the most recent models, which makes them look more elegant I think. I've got some old metal archers, which are some of my favorite models. I have looked at 3D models, but there are few nice elf models available (and I already have too many HE models as it is, so there's that as wel...)
Also, welcome to the forum

Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
These are really nice sculpts! If I were to replace some of my older regiments, these would definitely match my image of what the replacements should look like.
Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
I really like these, not too cluttered just some basic marines which LSG are supposed to be. Can you do different poses? Showing a unit fighting in 3 ranks would be neat.
Excited for TOW
Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
Thank you guys for the kind replies!
Last week I got my Silver Helms finished. These guys were a challenge, I had to do a lot of research on armor, horse anatomy, and a bunch of old HE illustrations, but I think it was worth it, I am really happy with the result:
My favorite one is the champion who reminds me a bit of the Noble on the 8th edition army book cover.
I already printed 10 SH, and 20 LSG, I gotta get these guys done by August 24 cause I will be attending my first OW tournament. And that also means I will have to sculpt some sisters of Averlorn, I think they are fantastic and I am planning on fielding 18 of them.
Next week I will be sharing some freshly painted LSG and the first steps on the sister's sculps.

Are they one piece or separate horse and rider? For some reason it seems the horses are a tad small in comparison to the rider. Maybe the stride of the horse is stretching it horizontally, but it seems to my eye, the rider would be as tall as the mount if dismounted?

Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
Yeah! That is a good idea! I think once the tournament passes, I will definitely add different combat poses.
Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
Hey! No, unfortunately they are not separated, I thought this way I could keep a more natural integrated pose. I have checked the proportions of riders and horses and I think it is ok, although I noticed the tal helm makes the riders look taller than they actually are. I will look into it in the future, once the tournament has passed.Turion Rilyaloce wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2024 9:12 pmThe details look amazing. Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
Printed and managed to paint 10 of my sea guard boys. I am so exited to put all of these models on the field. Hopefully by the end of the month I will be able to play a 1k game.
Hope you guys like them!

Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
Great work! Which scale did you go with? Are they more in line with older edition sculpts, or 7th/8th edition sculpts?
Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
Wow the paint is great too you should be proud of your work
Excited for TOW
Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
Hey, what do you use any already material when modeling, like bodies or such?
Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
Hallo fellow Asur,
its been years since I saw new high elf Miniatures that looked new and still cover the style from the older Editions. Please tell me, are you planing to put them online for others in need of some silverhelms and spearmen?;)
I just signed up just to ask you this -And I hardly sign up for anything ^^

Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
If I would start now, this series would have been a perfect candidate.
I'm goint towards the finish of a pretty large army that is almost 30 years in the making (and contains one model painted in '88 I think). So no, I'm not going to restart.

Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
I really appreciate how unbusy the models are. Painting these would be a delight compared to so many modern offerings by GW and others.
Re: REIMAGINING OLD HIGH ELF MODELS
Teutli these are brilliant models. You've nailed the aesthetic. If you start making those amazing silver helms for sale, hook us up!
Beautiful paint job too. Bravo!
