A bit about me:

I live in Quebec, Canada in the northern region out of Montreal. French is my first language, so it might happen I don`t translate everything correctly :) I have started warhammer not so long ago, almost 2 years ago and simply fell in love with High elven cavalry. It has been an hectic road of win and losses, but I alawyas managed to at least play a tiny bit above average.

More importantly, I am wed to a beautiful wife and the proud father of 2 littles angels. Lately, the little ones did eat most of my play time away but I still love them as much. It gave me time to focus more on painting and appreciate that aspect of the hobby.

"Are you to follow thoses fools of Tor Anroc again? And for what, Eltharion`s glory? Avenging mother?"

Lord Malrik remained calm despite his daughter`s agitation. She went on.

" We should be living in the main land! You fought more wars than any of theses so called Princes and yet, our lands are more akin to Naggarythe than anything else! Why don`t you ask Tor Elyr council for what is rightly ours!?"

Again, lord Malrik was unmoved. However this time, he spoke.

"Daughter, while we live in Ellyrion, we are outside the gates. Like it or not, thoses who live inside the gates will never be like us and will never trust us.

I am not telling you anything new about your mother, she was from Naggarythe. I have seen her suffer more than I could bear. Our land, our people, are in good part descending from Naggarythe and Tiranoc refugees fleeing the horrors I have witnessed. I am still a son of Ellyrion, and as such I will not seek from preventing you to leave for the city, my daughter.

However, I will only say this once... Never ever again ask me to abandon my home, my duty and your mother`s memory... you know too litle of what happened to even dare to think about it..."

Laetitia did not dare speak words again, his father cold eyes and the steel sound of his voice told her the discussion was over.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Image

Well, I have been more active theses days surfing like everyone else on the hype of the new book. While I did not get many games going, I did enough painting to finally go ahead and start my own plog.

My paint scheme was based on a mix of Naggarythe, Ellyrion and Tiranoc , in thoses harsh lands beyond the Eagle`s gate were true warriors are born. I went for the classic purple with a touch more of red, golden scales and steel armor. Woods are mostly white.

For the bases, I wanted to have that harsh plains look nearby the sea, Naggarythe and the green plains of Ellyrion. I tought autumn colors would match my pain schem and achieve this in some way.

I consider myself still a novice but think I have improved along the way so I will welcome any tips :)

I have retouched the horse eyes since then with a dark brown and drybrushed the blades for some highlights.

More to come!

Tin bits? Loving the dark colour, it does work well with the autumn scheme.

Tin bits? You mean the chains? It`s an old chariot edition, did not come with reins. I considered ordering the bits but then I had this chain and said why not :)

I`ll post more close up later, also have reavers and spears to take in picture but for now, I need take care of the kids :P

Silver Helm Champion

I`ve bought a unit of 5 helms on ebay pretty cheap and only figured later on there was some conversion involved in that unit. Still looking alright I guess.

This guy is an older work I had done, I am unsure about the highlights on the purple parts.

Theses guys were my latest project, I still did not get around to finish that banner, it does need some love, but basing, highlights and washes are done.

They seem to be the better results I can get so far and while I like them, I am a bit discouraged when I compare to the amazing work I can see in other plogs. Not sure where to start from here. :?

Thanks Elessehta :)

I had lots of repair to do on my metal silver helms, used tiny metal rod and a special small drill to fix the lances. However, I have no clue on how I would do it on a plastic sword like the one on drakemaster. I suspect glue should be enough considering the light weight.

On my side, I am still busy on getting my army painted while preparing for a game vs empire next week-end.

Here I am preparing a movement tray for my reavers, using old semi-plastic finition material, good old glue and magnetic adhesive band:

Adding metal washer pieces to bases and the movement tray glued and painted black.

I intend to add same rock and grass material than the rest of my army to theses movement tray and reaver units

I also started another project, my first attempts at conversion. Got my hands on some sisters of Avelorn heads and came with following idea.

Image

Image

Guess it also imply my first attempts at scultping green stuff to replace the blue tack. I got enough parts for 10 sisters and probably could mix them with my few maiden guards when needed. Cloak and arms are wood elves, amazons body and sisters heads.

I am unsure about the proportions, probably will need to work a longer neck, raise shoulders a little bit and give them a metal armored look to cheat a bit. On the plus side, the cloak will be tighter to her body once I grind the round pin out.

What do you think?

Thank you for the comment :)

I started assembling the sisters, will take some pics later this month, hopefully with one of them painted.

Meanwhile, I finally had the will to finish the banner of the Dragon Princes. I ventured on little details here and there on some models in the past but this was actually my first real free hand work that I`m actually happy with.

I wanted it to represent the Banner of the world Dragon, and so I choosen the rune`Sarathai`

I agree with others here - the autumnal basing really compliments the gold/white color scheme well. I especially like the way the dragon princes turned out.

Thanks for the comments guys, really helps the motivation!

It is autumn outside and my army slowly comes to life.:P I wasn't sure at first about this color scheme to be honest, but the more pieces I finish, the more it comes together. But lets say looking at the great colors of the trees outside helps alot when I do the basing.

Speaking of which, I started paint on Khoril ( which was badly damaged :? ) and made my first steps at using green stuff to build up both theses ladies. The spear is to make it easier to blend in with my older maiden guards as sisters of averlorn and possibly proxy them as seaguards as well like I did with the old models.

Image Image

I'm pretty pleased how they turning out, still considering if I should make a skirt or leave them as is. I have a dozen more of them to come, will try give them unique poses. I try to mix it up a bit, glad someone spotted the horse head swap btw :)

Re: A tale of Ellyrion - steel unit trays

#25 Post by Findolfin »

Thanks guys for comments :)

A small update, I received the steel unit trays I ordered from http://shogunminiatures.com/index.html

I am not in the habit of doing publicity but I am pretty pleased. I ordered several size for various formations I plan to use and it all fits very nicely. Service was great and pretty fast, packaging impeccable and Robert even included business cards.

Image

Even a problematic unit like a 15 strong cav bus with slight variations in base size, models not in exact base contact due to horse tails, etc ended fitting nicely in the cav tray ( Which have the ideal free room without trying to overcompensate ). In short, it fitted on the first try.

Image

I also ordered some of the magnetic bases to try them out for my kitbashed sisters. These are information I did not had:
- How thin they are?
- Do they fit under the base?
- Are they strong magnet?

A picture is worth 1000 words so here is one ( both models are sitting on a WH base with a magnet base sticked under ).

Image

Fro some answers now, the bases are pretty thin, a third of a WH base. However, they are rigid, they do not ply. Ideal for cheating the 28 mm scale on some third party models, adding more terrain or to stick under a WH base as a magnet.

So yea, they fit under a WH but they do not sink in. Used like that for the magnet, it is the ideal strenght for a plastic model. I feel it lacks a bit of force when it is a metal model, as in you won`t be able to flip the tray upside down but coupled with the flanged tray, the fact it is in steel, it is certainly playable without models sliding all over the place. Overall great stuff, as the surface is wide, already cut to right size and easy to glue under your model.

I hope it was informative and I definetely recommend them.

I ordered on March 9th and received it on the 21th, so 12 days later, so it was pretty fast considering it was US to Canada shipping.
He mentions 10 days to fabricate + whatever shipping time the mail takes.

I'm not sure what to make of those from an aesthetic point of view. To me, the movement tray was an opportunity to accentuate the basing scheme. Perhaps the tray edges could be base-coated? I don't know.
For the dwarfs, there was only this. Hammerson met Grombrindal’s gaze, and the White Dwarf nodded slowly. If it must be done, let it be done well. Whether they were dead or alive, that was the only way dwarfs knew how to do anything.

And Grombrindal said "10 from the back, yeah?"

I am also going the steel tray route, I believe. I have seen pics where they were painted and flocked just as effectively as other trays. There are a few reviews on these out there, too. Glad to hear another positive for this company.
