From The Cavalry Prince...

SpellArcher wrote:Chaos Dwarfs! I’ve got the guts of an army and as I have the Magnum Opus of a book it’d be a shame not to do it.
The book in question is Tamurkhan by the late Alan Bligh, released in 2011 by Forge World and accompanied by a fascinating range of Chaos Dwarfs and other Chaos models. It's a very large tome, hardback of course with really nice paper and expensive. Essentially it's a campaign book tracing the rise and rampages of the eponymous lord of Chaos. The dark dwarfs feature markedly and the book includes a full bestiary and army list for the Legion of Azgorh. The artwork is so evocative that I was inspired to collect some models.

Chaos Dwarf infantry form the backbone of the army, assisted by Hobgoblin slaves and a variety of twisted war machines. My favourites though are the K'daai, spirits of fire bound by the Daemonsmiths into metal bodies. The huge K'daai Destroyers are often seen in Chaos Dwarf armies, capable of vast carnage. Less common are the smaller K'daai Fireborn but these fascinate me, so they're in. I kind of picture the army as living somewhere like Darth Vader's castle from Rogue One.

Are you going to start another thread for your nascent CD army?
It would be fascinating for me to see some of these exotic models.
Also some pictures of the arcane Magnum Opus would be interesting.
Looking forward to the development of this thread into something bigger!

That does look like a magical, mystical thome of chaos. Home to countless dark secrets and evil magics...

Which is another way of saying: give us more :)

They're definitely great models. For GW models they're very down to earth and normal, while they still manage to look like dwarves and have a lot of character in them. Which makes for great models I feel.

Provisional List

Daemonsmith, Lvl 4 Hashut, Mask of the Furnace, Power Scroll 400

Sorcerer, Lvl 2 Fire, Enchanted Shield, Dispel Scroll, Ironcurse Icon 165
Castellan, BSB, Armour of Bazherak, Dawnstone, Great Weapon 205

18 Infernal Guard, Great Weapon, Champion, Musician 292
10 Fireglaives, Full Command, Eternal Flame 212

6 Fireborn 330
Magma Cannon 145
Deathshrieker Rocket Launcher 100

5 Wolf Riders, Bows, Musician 75
5 Wolf Riders, Bows 70

1994 points

The Infernal Guard unit is small but the Castellan is Stubborn and these are dwarfs. Fireglaives are 18" range only but can move and fire. K'daai Fireborn are effectively daemonic Monstrous Infantry, a bit dodgy to be honest but they have their moments. Only two war machines but both wizards are engineers,so can re-roll a die each. Hashut is a left-field but powerful Lore, top spell is costly and risky hence the Power Scroll, whilst the Mask grants a 4+ Ward and +1 Armour Save. Armour of Bazherak grants a 2+ AS and MR 2.

Thoughts welcome.

Why no musician on the second wolf rider unit?

I'm not too familiar with CD to give detailed imput. I'm mainly wondering if you've got enough combat damage options to score enough points. Shooting is nice, but it's hard to completely finish a unit with shooting. Which might see you destroy a lot of models, but score few points because a handful of models remain.

I intend to use my goblin wolf rider models with maybe a couple of adjustments Rod. Need to figure the details out.

The logical solution would be to add a K'daai Destroyer, a supercharged monster with Flaming Attacks. I could drop the Sorcerer and one war machine but even two engines feels a little light. One might be just too few. Unless it were a Hellcannon but I can't fit both that and the Destroyer into my 500pt Rare allowance.

It’s surprisingly OK Rod, maybe due to the pot design. I don’t have that much though. A little progress:

I've heard that said before about the old pots. Seems like the newer ones were a step down in that regard (and also the fact that the lids don't stay open).

I had a look around for comparable paints, but it's too old to be listed in the Dakka Dakka paint comparison guide, which is normally my go to source for paints: https://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Pain ... lity_Chart .

I did find this one: https://herrickgames.com/wip/coat-darms ... eous-blue/, which may or may not be the exact same paint as the old WH one.

Perry Twins Rod, mid-80's. I'm making very slow progress but here's a WIP. Cropped the photo to fit the attachment size limit which I'm not sure flatters it!
