Just how low-magic is this list Galharen? Is it purely defensive or is it packing some spell threat?

This is aggro list, gonna push as fast as possible, 2 buff spells, extra movement from witchcraft, healing, H-Spell preventing wounds, I'm gonna risk, who knows when I will take part in 2 days tournament again, so my plan is to have fun:)

How did the army perform?
Late to the party (was on holiday...), but my ideas on seeing the list are:
- the Lancer bus is slightly on the small side. 11 is ok and will perform well against a lot of units and armies. But against armies that know well how to deal with armoured models 11 disappear too fast. Especially if they have some ranged answers to it.
- I would combine the knights of Ryma into a single unit of 7-8 models and increase the SM unit in size. 14 deal a lot of damage, but their damage output falls off too fast once they start losing models.
- I'm not sure on the two reapers as the only shooting in the list. My feeling is that it's not enough to keep big stuff honest. Also, the number of good targets to shoot might be very low very fast with such an aggressive list. A lot will be in combat, perhaps even turn 2, giving you only 1 turn to shoot at many things.
Despite all this, it does look like a very fun list to play with
And of course, coming after the battle took place is a bit late...

Re: [4500] speed kills - HbE go to local masters
well, the list didn't work as I wished, I was missing the offensiv magic and shooting every game. I had a long break from playing which affected my moves surely, but still I didn't have fun with the list. Second game I played vs Bretonnia and I couldn't do much against them, we both did basically nothing and he won due to the scenario. Pitty.
MVP - definitely Ryma Knights! Their damage output is amazing. Sloops did nothing, next time I will take 3 RBT, this give me some shooting options from turn 1.
However, now I switch for some time to the Undying Dynasties, that was always my second-love and I want to give them a try. I borrowed most of the models from my friend so I can start playing asap.
Painting will be continued with my elves.

some things never change...Galharen wrote:Sloops did nothing, next time I will take 3 RBT
I can imagine that skipping both magic and shooting leaves a big gap in the list. Usually, you can get away with playing without one of the phases. But skipping on two usually means you lack some tools to deal with a couple of scenario's.
Too bad you didn't enjoy the list. Better luck next time. Let us know how the undying dynasties perform.

I thought these used to be decent, earlier in 9th Age. Have they become bad again?Prince of Spires wrote:some things never change...
I agree with Rod on this one. Also, High Elves tend to be good at magic and shooting.Galharen wrote:I was missing the offensiv magic and shooting every game

Re: [4500] speed kills - HbE go to local masters
Seems so. Haven't looked into the 9th ed rules enough to know for sure. But I think chariots in general tend to underperform. Any combat where they get stuck after the initial strike will make them suffer. And they tend to be too expensive for disposable units. HE chariots lack durability, reliable impact hits and high S (except for the WLC).SpellArcher wrote:I thought these used to be decent, earlier in 9th Age. Also, when doubling as a shooting platform they have two conflicting roles at which they are not very good. So I'm mostly just not surprised that they underperform.

Re: [4500] speed kills - HbE go to local masters
well, I didn't skip the magic phase completely, I had Prince with Master of Carnaig Tower (Loremaster with 5 spells), but there is no magic missle I could use. A few buffs but they don't fullfil the range attacks role.Prince of Spires wrote:some things never change...Galharen wrote:Sloops did nothing, next time I will take 3 RBT

Sounds bad news for board control.Galharen wrote:A few buffs but they don't fullfil the range attacks role.

If you want to keep the aggressive style and at the same time acquire some ranged magic, you could perhaps look into a Wizard Master on a Dragon, either with Pyromancy/Alchemy or with Cosmology (and with Cosmology and MoCT you have several options to heal your dragon).
This is similar to what DanT did for a recent UK tournament.
Good luck with UD in the meantime!
