There's a classic sitcom called 'Father Ted' where Ted is trying to explain this concept to Father Dougal. "These ones (shows toy cows) are small but the ones out there (real cows outside window) are far away."Prince of Spires wrote:That could just mean you have a very small step family...

Re: Share Your Snow Sculptures Here!
We had an uncharacteristically large amount of snow last weekend (as in, it's still there, 4 days later, which is pretty unheard of in the Netherlands), so we created our own snowman
5 year old (6 tomorrow...) added for scale
It was pretty terrible sculpting snow. Too cold, which meant it didn't really stick together. Still, for a 4 year old and a 6 year old working together, it turned into a pretty decent snowman

Re: Share Your Snow Sculptures Here!
It was the same here. We had a lovely winter wonderland for a whole week. Snow all over the place and the little stream and pond near my house froze solid enough for ice-skating. It was great. It started raining yesterday though, so we're back to the wet and dreary Dutch winter...SpellArcher wrote: (This is a lot for where we live.)
She was indeed! She's old enough now to really enjoy the snow. One or two years really makes a difference at her age. Walking to school with her was the same thing. She managed to roll through all the snow piles she found on her way there. Snow is meant to be played in after all...SpellArcher wrote: She’s getting stuck in!

I get it. 'One day snow', gone so quickly you barely have time to do anything with it.Prince of Spires wrote:We had an uncharacteristically large amount of snow last weekend (as in, it's still there, 4 days later, which is pretty unheard of in the Netherlands), so we created our own snowman
Excellent stuff, guys.

That sort of idea ideed. Excep that I'm not close to Amsterdam and my pond looked a lot less impressive...SpellArcher wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4o4pRQ_QdyYPrince of Spires wrote:the little stream and pond near my house froze solid enough for ice-skating.
But skating outdoors is sort of a national craze in the Netherlands. Even more so this year, where everyone is stuck inside due to Corona. But even other years we get "ice-fever" as soon as temperatures drop below 0.

@Prince of Spires: Golden comment, sir! Winged words. 6mm scale, mayhap.
Nice snowman! Snow is joy. That's a good result with cold snow, good going!
@Spellarcher: Haha, nice one! It's a good start with snow.
Ho-ho-ho. What time of the year is it? It's snow shovelling season up here in the frigid north! And ski time.
Shovelling snow around houses and cars for neighbours and family has meant plenty of chances to sculpt quick and shoddy things in snow. King Bore (the proverbial winter god) has brought us a bountiful harvest of frozen water from on high:
