Looks great. It's becoming an impressive force. I had the same realisation at some point. I was always painting individual units and it always felt like slow going. Until I put everything together. At some point I calculated the points of all the painted models I could field and I got somewhere over 3.000. That felt pretty amazing. But it does sneak up on you (at least at my speed of working...).
Thanks! I really like how it looks as a whole, I think my painting style works better that way :D
SpellArcher wrote: Wed Nov 10, 2021 8:53 pm Agreed. I like the brown basing, have something similar on my Wood Elves.
It took me a long time to decide on the basing, originally it was going to be snow themed, but most of my old armies had a snow base so I wanted to do something different. In my head, Chrace is a land of mountains, hills and massive pine forests and the like, so I thought a forest base would work.

So for more painting updates, my completed 6th edition shadow warriors! I love the cloaks, whoever sculpted them is a genius. Such depth!

Hope you folks enjoy, up next is more Reavers!

Congrats on the army shot, it looks great. As you said the photo could be better but it's still an amazing view with an awesome color scheme !

Thanks for the kind words folks!

Quick update to show off my second reaver, the musician. Three more till this first unit is completed. I also gave the first one a shield.

Enjoy!

I think I missed it but the round shields... are they from dwarf minis or somewhere else?

The round shield works great with the axe. It's a good find for the looks you're going for.

I was just taking a look and I like the colours for the Shadow Warriors, they have a suitable dark vibe.
And the axe and shield of the Ellyrian Reavers is a cool idea!

Hi Nicanor, yeah they are from the old Dwarf sprue, can't remember which ones exactly.

Thanks both, glad you enjoy them.

Another update today, just finished the Harbinger. Really happy with how this mini turned out, took a bit of extra time with the nice detail on the champion. Sadly his horsie doesn't have a tail but hopefully with some greenstuff on the way I'll fix that up.

Hope you guys enjoy.

Cheers!

I particularly like the sword :)

Btw at some point I needed tails for my horses too and I bought some from a UK-based seller of metal horse tails on eBay, but he does not seem to have them available anymore :(

I'm sure the quality of the photography is helping too but they look somekind cleaner with more contrast.
Also I love the little addition to the base. Very nice and it fits your theme really well.

First off thanks everyone for the kind words, really appreciate it! Yes the photography is purely down to me using my wife's phone instead of my own, I dropped mine at work and it landed on the lens cover and it broke, I need to try and get it replaced. Not doing anything differently really with my painting.

Anyway, picking up the pace a touch with my painting as I've thankfully not been as tired in an evening after work.

Here's the standard bearer, I tried doing some socks on the horsie just to see how that looked and the end result is okayish. Probably won't try that again in a hurry! I found a pdf of the old High Elf paper banners so I'm going to print them off for my swordmasters and the reavers. Very much a "back in my day" moment haha.

Hope you guys enjoy and of course all comments and criticism very much welcome.

Just the last one to go!

What I love about the unit is how between the unusual colour scheme and the subtle conversions, it has a clear identity of it’s own.

Totally agreeing with SpellArcher ! I love them.
For the socks, maybe the paint is a bit too glossy and too dark compared to rest of the horse ? But my experience on horses are limited to my 5 reavers so take it with a pinch of salt :)

Azaam, yeah I think its too dark as well, might try and fix that later.

Meantime, the last Reaver is done and the unit is finally complete. I've still got to fix the tails for the poor baldie horse bums and I just need to print a banner.

Will take a few more photos when that has happened.

As for what's next.. not sure, might be Elves or might be 40k.

Cheers.

Great unit! I agree that it has an identity of its own, some details like the axes, the sword or the waystone are really cool. The bases give some autumn vibes that fit well with the white-and-red scheme I think :)

Hello everyone! Can't believe it's been so long since I posted, but have not had any Elf related posts to put up. Been extremely busy moving house, doing some work abroad and all sorts.

However, did manage to finally have a game of 6th edition with my good friend and his Orcs and Gobbos!

Unfortunately I was betrayed by the dice gods at every turn and by my own foolishness
This was our first game of 6th edition in at least 15 years, so it was a lot of checking things out with the rules.

Played a 500 point Border Patrol using the Capture scenario. Both armies sought a magical repository hidden in a ruined tower somewhere in the Badlands. I will do a follow up with a little narrative soon!

My army consisted of:

A commander embedded in 14 spearmen, 10 archers and 5 shadow warriors.

They faced off against a Shaman, 15 orc boyz, 10 arrer boyz, 5 wolf riders and a doom diver catapult.

The lack of magic and the dice sought to defeat me at every turn. The doom diver landed square on the spears and took out 6, severely ruining their effectiveness.

My only real luck was a failed animosity which led to the orcs 'aving a scrap! Which led to the orc boyz charging and battering their comrades.

The Shadow Warriors killed 2 wolf riders and 2 orc boyz the entire game! I kept rolling 4s and 5s to hit and 1s and 2s to wound!

I need a much better army for next time! :D

An unfortunate combination.

Does tend to hurt in small games.

It's not a proper O&G game without this.

I completely failed to conduct the proper rituals over the dice and so lady luck decided to play silly buggers. Not that I really minded, it was great to get a game in with an old friend and share in a bit of Warhammer goodness!

My mate there has been wanting to paint his old army the same way I have been, but hasn't started yet. He was just pulling things out of storage. I said to him "just bring what you can find!" thinking he wouldn't have anything in particular, unfortunately the only hero he could find was his shaman! Oh bugger says I.. I didn't want to muck about and change my list around so I didn't take a mage. Lesson certainly learnt! I also didn't need to put armour on the archers, that 6+ light armour save was probably too much of a point sink in such a small game, but it did save a few of them from wolfriders!

So here's where I'm at with what is left (not pictured is Imrik, the white lions and the mage on horsie).

It's an odd number because I seem to be missing 3 archers, 3 spears and 1 whitelion. Who knows where they've got to.

My plan for the remainder is two units of 20 spears, which leaves me 12 to convert into some Lothern Sea Guard. Perhaps that is not really worth it but really it's more for fun than anything else!

If I try and buy the old archer command group I will have 25 of the old armoured archers and 12 of the new ones.

Given you've quite a lot of shooting, a Lvl 2 on High Magic with the Seer honour might be idea, to give you Drain Magic, Fury of Khaine and Curse of Arrow Attraction.

Yes that's what I was thinking, but level 2 mage for 6th edition doesn't give me a lot leftover in a 500 point army.

This is the original unit of spears, glad they are finally getting a new lick of paint. First 10 were quite easy as I'd already painted the 4 from the 4th edition range. The poses are a little dodgy it has to be said :D

Now for something a little different, I wonder how many people are converting old High Elves in 2022?

Image

Image

You can still see the remenants of the goblin green bases that survived the simple green treatment back in 2019!

What are they you ask? Well my High Elf army hails from Chrace and I wanted to add some "Lothern Sea Guard" only these instead hail from neighbouring Cothique.

Cothique Elves are always described as more akin to corsairs who sail the seas and prefer raiding attacks rather than open warfare. So I mixed in a few bits and bobs from some of the old Wood Elf kit. I took inspiration from the 6th edition army book that had a Lothern Sea Guard made of a mixture of Archers, Spearmen and Silver Helms.

Will hopefully get them painted up soon.

Let me know what you folks think.

Cheers!

I love seeing converted elves. The 6th ed plastic multi part kits are what I started with and they look a little wonky IMO. Head swaps, kit bashing with archers are a great sweet spot for me.

Looks very promising, can't wait to see them with paint on em.
