Lordys Elves (Commissioned) (Silver Helms now up)
Never done anything like this before....mainly because I don't paint, I just pay others to do it :
I've been using Commission painters for the last 2 years now, for all my 5 armies (HE, DE, Beastmen, O&G and VC) and normally I just use various different painters where I can get the best deals at the time for the standard I would like.
For my High Elves however I wanted something a bit special, they're my first love and the reason I got hooked on Warhammer crack in the first place.
As a result for my HE I've used only one painter for my HE, a relatively unknown guy (in Warhammer) I'm not sure he wishes to be named so I'll keep his name off for now, but I'd like to share his work with you guys as I think he's a brilliant painter.
Currently he has painted for me:
15 Dragon Princes
4 Bolt Throwers
15 Ellyrian Reavers
2 Great Eagles
2 Frostheart Phoenixes
Tyrion
Noble
Loremaster
Annointed
20 Sisters of Avelorn
1 Prince on Stardragon (forgeworld carmine dragon)
Currently he's working on 30 converted Silver Helms, some pics of them can be seen below
NOTE
The basing and any movement trays you see are done by myself (in case the painter is no longer available to paint) so the standard of basing will not match that of the models

That block of silver helms is going to look amazing, can't wait to see it finished. I don't even want to think about how much it cost or how long it took to acquire the parts and convert them all.

I don't want to think about how much it has cost me either.... most expensive unit in the game I'm sure.Althi wrote:That block of silver helms is going to look amazing, can't wait to see it finished. Re: Lordys Elves (Commissioned)
Stolen from Paul Brown, and John Walters you say? When did they do this?
They seem similar to my Paladins of Mathlann.
Whoever is doing your painting is doing a nice job, why is it that you don't paint, it's half the hobby?

Re: Lordys Elves (Commissioned)
Those look really cool, not really checked that many blogs on here
The horses were stolen from other guys & the idea of using Ellyrian reavers to make Silver Helms
Edit:
I don't paint because I don't really enjoy it, if I could buy painted models I probably would, I also have very little spare time as I have 2 Nurglings and work long hours.
I do paint though, Bestigors, Skeleton Warriors, Dire Wolves etc, I've painted quite a bit but lost all mojo for it these days.

Re: Lordys Elves (Commissioned)
All my 40k stuff has been commissioned, a fair bit of my Bolt Action too. I tend to have too many projects on the go at once and end up throwing money at a mate to finish them for me so I can play with them ^_^

These are really nice elves, really clean and simple, but quite beautiful. I look forward to seeing the finished dragon!
Never buy elves in bulk..... I have learnt my lesson!!

Looking good. Does the painter have a website or blog or anything?

Looking really good. Be careful about revealing his identity or you might have competition for his services!!
Definitely looking forward to seeing that Dragon when its done!
I'm yet to commission anyone to paint for me. I like that I've painted everything I use myself. The flip side of the coin is I have so much stuff unpainted and other projects I want to do that I am tempted...

Re: Lordys Elves (Commissioned)
About a year before the new army book came out. My unit is very much focused on using the Reaver Models so doesn't really resemble your unit at all, John then inspired in part by my conversions then added more Phoenix Guard and maybe white Lions stuff to do his conversions I'm not sure if he used Silver Helm torsos I think he may have done.Elessehta of Yvresse wrote:Stolen from Paul Brown, and John Walters you say? Those are so good it's infuriating, well done!

Yeah he's done me proudmusckrat wrote:Those are so good it's infuriating, well done!
And some good news, all 30 Silverhelms are now finished and will be sent to me on Monday, so hopefully I will have them based and have some pictures of all 30 models up by the end of next week.
He's taking a break from painting my Elves sadly (probably for the best I get the feeling I almost pushed him into a breakdown with these Helms)
Next up from me will be 50 High Elf Archers, I'm using a new painter this time and the standard sadly won't match the standard that Sam has done the rest of my elves in but I'm sure they will look good anyway.
Besides the archers I'm having Dreamspirit Terrain build me two unit fillers for the said archers so I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
Gaming wise, I've pretty much finished with Warhammer, or rather with Games Workshop, thankfully my models fit perfectly into Kings of War so it's worked out quite well so far and I'm loving the game.

"Forth, and fear no darkness! Arise! Arise, Riders of the Asur! Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered! A sword day... a red day... ere the sun rises!"
Nothing is as sublime as a cavalry charge.
Well painted.

They're ok for commissioned work.
For the dwarfs, there was only this. Hammerson met Grombrindal’s gaze, and the White Dwarf nodded slowly. If it must be done, let it be done well. Whether they were dead or alive, that was the only way dwarfs knew how to do anything.
And Grombrindal said "10 from the back, yeah?"
