Re: Antelano's High Elves - Plastic crack

#91 Post by Azaam »

I wondered for a long time about getting some skaven models. And as there's already some in IoB, it feels like I had to complete the army. I saw a lot of offers too but I managed to keep it under control. I repeat myself over and over "let's focus on the main army", especially when I have so few units painted. We'll see when I'll manage to paint at least half of them.

Dwarfs have a very nice style and there's a ton of way to make them look great. I'm sure yours will be awesome !

I know how that feels. Too many wonderful models / units and not enough time to paint. I do always wonder if if having a secondary army like skaven is worth it. It's a very different army from HE painting wise. A lot more models and probably a bit less details. They're not as clean as HE but a "dirty" look can be its own challenge of course.

One day... ;)

How I justify these new armies.
Both gonna be lot darker and grimier. Dark colors is just a bliss to work with. It's faster, you get to a decent enough level almost immediately and it's so much easier to hide your mistakes.
I'm so pumped. I know I could churn out like 5 models, if not more, in the same time I'd do 1 elf because of the color scheme alone.

High Elves = quality
Skaven/O&G's = quantity

Just like in Tolkien's good old epic days.

So... I have barely done anything since last time. Been too tired to paint. Dunno what's going on there. So when I finally painted some I kinda rushed the standard bearer just to get them done. And it shows. Might touch him up. Or not. We'll see.

And I've bought more models. Of course. All O&G. Might actually paint some goblins next.

Also been stripping tons of models. GSW's Paint Remover is awesome, by the way. Works way better than any chemicals I've tried. On metal anyways. Plastic remains to be seen.

Outstanding, as usual.
Would not say at all that the job seems rushed.

Regarding the O&G's if you want to start from the goblins to try your hand, fine.
Otherwise I would not waste time with them more than needed to fill the required minimum. (Just personal opinion...)

I agree, really like the dragon's colour. Be great to see a full unit of these.

The sea and the dragon really look the same colour in photos. But they're not.

First greenskins painted. And thus my Waaagh! was born.

It's a bit a small Waaagh! But they look great. It's a very promissing start. Just be careful, these greenskins tend to attract more of their kind ;)

The only very minor point of critisism perhaps is the musician's instrument (a gong?). It feels a bit too clean and neat for a band of goblins.

Amazing, what's your recipe for the goblin skin here if you don't mind?

This is based on a classic Kev Adams model from perhaps 1990 Rod. I even have an orc from the 80's similarly equipped. I too have a minor point of criticism...goblins don't deserve to look this nice!

Elysian Green>Black Wash>Elysian Green>Ogryn Camo

Did a green wash at first which did make the skin pop a bit more. But went with a black in the end for more defined shadows.

I know most think you shouldn't waste your time on goblins. Just do the bare minimum. But I've always loved goblins. Even more so than orcs. So they'll get the same love as everyone else in the Waaagh!. So to all the Goblin haters out there: we'll blow your planet up! Oh wait

I don't think he was entirely serious ;)

I was mainly thinking that it's painted to look fairly new and shiny. I would expect a bit more rust from a goblin ;)

Can't believe I haven't painted anything since March. Guess life just happened. That changes today! I present the only round bases allowed.

Sucks you in, doesn’t it? I especially like the accessories here, subtle but effective.

Nice! He looks great. He could come out of a Games-Workshop catalogue, looking like htat. And its a lovely model as well.

Though it should be mentioned, at 1 model a week, creating a 200 model Waaaagh will take some time ;) :p

Beautiful work Antelano. Like something right out of White Dwarf.

I gave up painting to this standard a long, long time ago. I do hope you don’t go blind painting 100 goblins!

I don't know about that, but thanks. I am in fact quite happy with him myself.

You'll probably enjoy my latest work. Hope to have some pics up by tomorrows end. Wouldn't necessarily say it''s my best work. But it's by far my favorite model I've done thus far.

I do enjoy them indeed! They look lovely. Or rather, they would if they weren't such nasty little buggers. I doubt many people could call a night goblin lovely to his face and escape with all his body parts still attached....
