Galharen's works - 23.08.2022 new models and PATREON start

#1 Post by Galharen »

Hi all again :) As I see my old topic disappeared, so it's high time to begin my blog now :D
After a 3-4 years break I'm coming back to painting.

=P~ I'm so jealous of your skills... This is brilliant! I hope you're not in the mage painting contest! Also I like the kit bash look, that combined with your painting makes it hard to even tell it was a plastic mini with all the attention to detail you add. Superb, I hope I could one day reach that level.

Btw, do you do commissions? I'm not soliciting for one, I'm just saying if you don't you should start cuz you could make 800% back on those models easily! Also, do you get many games in, or do you spend the majority of your hobby on the painting and modeling side?

I used to paint for commisions, but now I decided to paint whole my army :)
I participate in tournaments occasionally but now holidays are coming and I will have more time for painting and gaming :) But don't worry, I will back to commisions soon

Your paint job on your mage (and prince judging from your avatar) are fine examples of why the High Elf army is considered one of the most elegant and dynamic armies in Warhammer. By the way, what bitz did you use to make your mage?

Thanks for your replies :)
Well, the bits come from dragon mage (the body, head and stuff), legs are from archers sprue and that little sword - honestly I don't remember  I assume it's from dragon mage box also, but it can also be from mounted lord sprue.

Nevertheless, it's just a quick work to improve my overal army appearance and now I'm planning some conversions with my white lions :)

Fantastic, love the freehand on the robe and the sword looks damn smooth and sharp.

Can't wait to see the model finished and your converted WL.

Though I'm not a big fan of NMM anymore, you really do execute it beautifully.

The scrollwork is truly inspirational. :D

When you say that its a 'reasonable tabletop quality' and that its not your good stuff, you crush my insides a little.

Looks stunning... the face is just beautiful... The tones are fantastic!

I really appreciate it, but don't worry, I didn't say that it's not good stuff, I think it is, but it's just not the highest quality etc.
I'm back from little weekend holidays  so it high time to finish that mage. Maybe tomorrow I will post it finished :)

Hi, the mage is almost done, just base is missing.
What do you think? Sorry for those shadows in the picture, but I didn't have much time to take a good photo.

Somehow I missed this thread. I'm glad you're back Galharen!

That freehand on the robe is intricate as hell, what colours did you use for patterning?

How are you going to base him?

Wow, it's long time since I posted something in this thread, so I'm glad that someone elso was also interested in my minis :) Well, I finished the mage's base long time ago, I've already done my new RBT with little scenic base and unit of 12 white lions (still lack of command group).
I hope I will post some photos soon :)

Damn you Galharen. :P Just when I think I'm fairly satisfied with one of my own White Lions, you come and post this!
Very nice. That lion is such a brilliant white. It's awesome. By the way, post this in the Lion Rider conversion thread. I'm sure Milli would appreciate it!

Your technique is amazing! just like anything that comes from Poland. What the hell goes on in your country? so many good painters there  . I guess here in Spain all we know is to play football and basketball :P

WoW!!! =D>

Simply amazing, everything is exellent ! Your White lion unit is one of the best i've ever seen! The Lion on the front rank is perfect, and add much character to the unit. Great concept, great painting, great bases!

Can you tell us your color recipe for the rocks on the bases? (loved them)

Keep posting!

I guess neither football nor basketball is on good level so maybe that's the reason why Polish people paint more than watch matches

Soon I will post my latest paintjob so stay tuned :D

Well, it's quite simple. I stared with Cobra Leather (vallejo) and then few layers of drybrush, each with more white color.
In the end, a little touch with pure white and that's all. It looks better when you start from black basecoat IMO.
By the way, post this in the Lion Rider conversion thread. I'm sure Milli would appreciate it!

Hmm. I tried that method with Snakebite Leather...didn't work so well. I'm really looking to do something similar to your bases for my new army and display base... Would you mind going into a bit more detail how you do those rocky bases and paint them? :) Would you say that the same method is applicable to simple sand bases?

Well, there are many better painters then me, but nevertheless, I appreciate it :)

I'm thinking now about painting some swordmasters in nmm, but models, which we have are crap imo #-o
Shame that it;s really tough to find some other models which we could use and which look very elvish to represent sm.
Maybe some conversions? But I'm not good at GS, so...

There are rumours about second wave of miniatures, but nothing about high elves :?

That dwarf is absolutely amazing. The runes, nmm, etc. everything is top notch. The amount of detail in the weapon/shield is boggling to my mind.

There is going to be a second wave, however it'll be cavalry miniatures only from the sounds of it. DE Dark Riders and Cold One Chariots, Empire Knights, etc.
