Children of Mathlann - creating a Cothique army

#1 Post by Ramesesis »

So I have picked up a project that I stsrted 2013 but just dropped 2014 and have not touched since.
It is making a unit of Cothique elite warriors.

As I have 20 White Lions the idea is to make a unit that will count as Phoenix Guards.

The present name is Wardens of Mathlann and i mix in dark elf bits to get a more wild and savage look. The command and maybe the whole front rank will have Sea Dragon cloaks to fit the theme.

The reason behind them causing fear is part reparation and partially because in order to join the elf must seek out the partially drowned and haunted lower halls along Cothiques coast. There they have too seek out armour and often weapons but also the lost souls of ancestors haunting the halls.

The elves that returns from this perilous quest are no longer just themselves but also carry an ancestral soul with them. From now on they are themselves haunted but the other soul will also guide them making them able to see what an opponent is about to do before they actually do anything.

Half elf, half ghost, they are now forever in service of Mathlann and the land of Cothique. They will protect the land st all cost, from vicious beasts from below and above, from raiders and invader and if need be teach their foes what happen if you induce the wrath of Mathlanns wardens.

Also, I have held on to this old school banner for a long time. It should be good for my Wardens.

Nice. I'm thinking of another direction, I'll publish that later.

A unit of 10 Wardens is ready for the brush. Do not know if I should make more or just get these ones done and maybe do more later.

I decided to not limit this tread to just one unit but decided to include the whole army over time.

I was going to make a unit of elf light infantry for Oathmark that I never finished. So I decided to make a unit of 10 warriors with two hand weapons.
The minis are mostly wood elves but I will give them a backstory explaining their rough appearance. They represent sailors armed for boarding.
Or maybe some rough Rangers patrolling the Annuli

I love the warrior unit. The cloaks and facemasks are wonderful. Do you already have a paint scheme in mind for them?

I have a paint scheme in mind for the warrior. A yellowish tone like buff leather for the coat/overtunic.
Light blue (blue horror) for undertunic sleeves and Hood.
Same buff coat yellow for gloves.
I am thinking of the buff leather coats used by swedish troops in the 17th century.
Grey cloaks and dark brown boots.

So my 10 two hand weapon warriors are ready for some raiding!
I intend to use them as skirmishers so just light armour..

I am keeping 10 of my former 20 strong warrior unit with sword and shield.
It could be good having 10 skirmishers with a 4+AS and a parry save around.

In idea I got thinking about a crazy BSB with two hand weapons. A shield on the back to cover the greenstuff should do the trick.

My Wardens of Mathlann have grown a bit. Lack of cloaks have risen as a problem so it is possible I will have to live with that the fourth rank have none.

I have started painting the Wardens now. I also switched out the standard bearer in order to use that old sweet paper banner I posted earlier.
Here is the Champion halfway through.

I am also considering trying to remodel my 6 Silver helms into a Cothique version of Dragon princes.

But I would really need some good extra bits to pimp them out so they look really Special.
The name would be something like "Riders of the Storm".

They're looking lovely. I really like the cream color on the skirmishers. And that banner for your wardens of Mathlann is indeed sweet!

So here are the 15 strong unit of Warden of Mathlanns battle ready.
I might make five more but I have run out of any kind of cloaks.

I have been working on a new Empire army and Tau for Xenos Rampant so there have not been so much happening with my elves.
But today I managed to find four second-hand metal Silver Helms! Three regular and ine Standard bearer, all unpainted.
That means I now will have 11 Silver helms that can ride with a hero.
It changes things quite a bit.

After some hazzle I have managed to get my newly aquired Silver helms to rank up with the ones I already have, including a hero and a plastic Silver helm I had not gotten around to assemble.

Now they look full of promise.

I am also considering switching shields.
I have 16 Dark elf infantry shields and I think using them with a sea serpent as motif would help increase the more vicious look.
