Being a summary of the most widely recognized formal period classification of Warhammer Fantasy Battles (WHFB) and Age of Sigmar (AoS), used for both forums and Facebook groups:

- Editions 1-3 of WHFB are Oldhammer (1983-1992), roughly the era of Bryan Ansell.

- Editions 4-8 of WHFB are Middlehammer (1992-2015), the era of Tom Kirby.

- All editions of AoS are Newhammer (2015-), the era of Kevin Rountree.

That's pretty succinct. So will The Old World constitute part of the AoS era or invite a new one I wonder?

I wouldn't put Age of Sigmar in there. Not that I presently have any problems with it. Third edition has been a ton of fun to play with my friends but it's a completely different type of game with completely different lore and mechanics. It's not *completely* disconnected but so distantly removed it shouldn't be implied to be a continuation.

In my humble opinion of course. The history should be something more like WHFB as a game ended official support here when a totally new and completely different game began that they tried to cross promote to lure in an initial audience with. The Old World could potentially be your Newhammer though!

Rumors still have it happening sometime in 2023 so there hasn't been a lot of news about it lately which is understandable given how hard they're pushing the new Horus Heresy edition.

Thanks Morgen. Let's hope it is indeed a new age.
