Elves from Nippon and Cathay

#1 Post by Meeky1991 »

So, I’ve been thinking for awhile, it would be a cool project to theme a High elf army around colonies in the areas of Cathay and Nippon. There are old fortresses all around the area based on maps so it’s not entirely far fetched that a group would not return to Ulthuan. I’ve drawn lots of images based on the idea, but I’m not a sculptor and only mediocre at kitbashing so I would love some help in sourcing some miniatures that might fit my idea.

So I couldn’t get the images to work. Gonna just post a link to a small blog I had started that also has the images at the bottom of the most recent post :D

Hopefully that works lol seems like most of the sites you can host with require payment plans now

Unfortunately I cannot see the images.
I believe the code should include the url where the image is hosted.

Edit: By the way I had not noticed this is your first post, so welcome (from another newcomer).

Welcome. It sounds like a great project. Unfortunately, the images don't work. To get the images to display you need to have a place online where to put them. There's image hosting sites like Imgur, but also cloud storage solutions like Microsoft OneDrive, dropbox or google drive. Once you've uploaded the image to there, find the "share" option and get a URL to share the image. It probably looks something like this:
https://ksoibq.am.files.1drv.com/y4mIEG ... pmode=none

(which is a OneDrive link for one of my images). Put that link in the [img] tags and it should display.

Hope that helps. If not, let me know and we'll figure it out.

Yeah, couldn’t get it to work unfortunately, most places seem to require payment plans and that’s just not an option at the moment. I do have the images up on a blog so I put a link to that in the original post. The images are at the bottom of the most recent post there.

And thanks! I’ve lurked here as a guest for years lol, just finally decided to make an account  There are some great painting blogs here to follow.... maybe one day I will develop some of the major skill and talent I see here in these forums lol

Sounds like a cool idea! In my sick mind, elves and far-east mythology and stuff fit very well, all the feng-shui, bonsai, martial arts and last but not least, beautiful weapons like the katana. The pics are nice even though the colours are not my favourite... still i would like to see more of that!

Welcome Meeky.

:)

I agree with the others, the eastern theme is a great idea! There's been a subtle Nippon influence on many of Jes Goodwin's elves over the years. I've found the Imgur app on iOS (Android would be the same I imagine) to be effective, easy to use and free thus far. Love your blog though! Very colourful troops and your artwork is splendid.

The Far East theme is certainly a good one and yes fits very nicely with the High Elves. Your artwork is absolutely fantastic!

I agree with Olthannon, your drawn Elves have a unique and appealing style.
For posting I found this free hosting service:

All the images in my painting thread are hosted there.

Awesome, I will definitely have to try the options listed here out for hosting.

And Thanks! Yeah, 2D is definitely my comfort zone. I really like painting miniatures but I’m definitely not quite where I Want to be yet in terms of painting. I’ve improved, but I know there is still a long way to go! Jes Goodwin definitely has some sculpts I would like to get my hands on, especially since I am drawn towards oldhammer and all metal miniatures.

I’ll definitely keep drawing as well. They take a little while to do but I’ll try and post them here once I get another one done!

Nice concepts. :) I've wondered about mixing up some samurai elements with elves, myself.

Making them could be tricky. Best I can think of is to see who makes plastic samurai and see if they scale well with elf bits. Heads especially.

I already got 2 models:
https://lastsword.com/producto/lord-comandante/
and
https://lastsword.com/producto/alto-custode/
which i think fit pretty much in that "flair" described above and are also pretty elvish... but that´s just my opinion and having only these 2 models wont make an army.

If you are hosting the images on a blog, then you can already use those to display them here. There is no need to upload them anywhere else.

In a browser, go to the image you want to share.
Right click on the image
choose the option "copy image link"
Go to Ulthuan.net and create the post where you want to put the image.
click on the "Img" button (below the subject line)
This gives you 2 img blocks. These:

Code: Select all

[img][/img]
Paste the image link you copied from your blog between these two img tags. Like:

Code: Select all

[img]https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jDsYpUWyJAQ/XxVKefApxmI/AAAAAAAAD1k/IHlJMjA9ozU0-UuM1l94cJY1fyVm8WU4wCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/image0.jpeg[/img]
If you submit your post then the image should show. One thing, our forum software is not very intelligent, so it will display the image on the original resolution of the images on your blog. Which can mean that they show bigger here then they do on your blog. The only way to fix that is to resize them before uploading them to your blog. This is where image hosting sites, like imgur or even microsoft one drive or google drive, have an advantage. They often have an easy way to resize images.

Note: above I put the img blocks and image link in a code block. I only did this so you can see how the text looks when creating the post (since stuff in a code block ignores other tags). Don't do this if you want your image to show :)

I've had a similar idea, that I never really developed, giving them a pop culture Sengoku Jidai vibe (though that would seem a rather obvious direction I would have taken).

One thing that you can steal from Forty Kay is to give them masks, essentially Aspects of various cultish styles of martial arts.
