Re: 8th edition news topic
It seems to me that magic will be extremely risk/reward. I wonder if there will be a middle ground magic phase anymore. Every game there seems to be a turning point where the momentum shifts one way or the other. Rolling as many dice as possible to get off a huge spell that could turn the tide back...

I would do something with the shoes/boots. I'm painting the models now and the shoes are too shoe-ey to make them silver. For the rest he looks nice.

Re: 8th edition news topic
Unless you really see victory before you when this one spell works, or you hope to avoid certain loss by this one spell. From what I see, magic can really be devastating and under certain circumstances a gamble on very high stakes may be justified. Especially for darkelves, who do not value life ver...

Re: What do you all get out of the hobby?
It's a long story, starting when I was about 8 reading in my brothers magazine about (historical) wargaming (1978). Spooky. Almost exactly the same except for me it was a book by Don Featherstone. Was it a dutch mag? I think Military Modelling used to carry wargaming articles over here but Miniatur...

Re: White Lions or Sword Masters in 8th?
How many wounds were the Swordmasters taking back? If its 10 wide its fighting in 3 ranks, seeing as theres 40-50 of them thats granting stepping up to attack back and you should be taking a minimum of 30 attacks, in which case the Swordmasters would be cut down to a man, no? In the end, yes, assum...

Re: White Lions or Sword Masters in 8th?
I actually thought about that and tried rolling in a hypothetical siutuation against units of 40 or 50 empire infantry or and goblins: a 12 model wide SM unit (12 to maximize agains 10 wide horde units) of 180/200 points and having ASF (I didn't even count the rerolls) hol the line. Although they sl...

*************** but i dont see the advantage********* I would assume the advantage is that you actually fight the rider as you do wiuth cavalry, and the model may save as the rider as well. As the rules are now, most monstrous mounts are save-less, and a smart opponent will target the mount, as the ...

I especially like the ghosts. I'd allmost imagine this more as an Undead Army, based on the TK lists perhaps, adding the option of chariots!

generally denying them the opportunity to play "their" game. That exactly, I realised, was what my game was all about - and exactly their frustration. I think there is a lot of truth in that. Like you, i don't bring the hardest list possible, but i do play to my strengths and his weekness...

I actually do think I know what your friend experiences. And your position as well. Several years ago I played in a very active bloodbowl league. Much like WH the team you choose decides very much your playing style, and if there were any variation in the first place, lengthy league play decides the...

I'm not there yet. I see things I have my doubts about, such as the stepping up rule, but I do see things I like as well: A) Another attempt at the magic system, that may work. B) Multi-rank shooting for bows - I missed that ever since Fifth Ed. And yes, I find it logical for all bows, not only Elve...

Look good!
Two thingies:
The snow works well generally, you might cut down the snow on the sides and paint the sides of the beses the besic color, so that there is a distinction between the neutral side and the characterised top. I think it would look a bit tidier.

Re: How long did it take to play your first game?
A few months I think. I bought some Elf models for my army, but I wasn't there yet to work towards an army. In a few months, a friend, who had played 40K years before, bought the 5fth Ed starter box after being assured by me that I really wanted to go into Fantasy Warhammer. He woudl play Empirie, I...

Re: What do you base your army around?
I know it is. But I like WYSIWYG and flexibility a lot. And the opportunity to model my army according to my own tastes. Unbarded SH for example (or eaven heavily armored reavers with lances), would add an interesting vulbnerable, yet hard hitting unit to the game, which would add tactical options: ...

Re: What do you base your army around?
I started out as a very fluff based gamer and collector, who had a ver Tolkienesque concept of his "Grey" Elves. For quite a long time I boycotted RBT's for example, because the didn't fit in the context. I found the armybooks very restrictive - and I still do - and too much based on a ver...

Re: What's your unluckiest/luckiest dice roll?
One of the most impressive, not single die roll, but set of break tests was some time ago during a game of Warhammer Ancient Battles. Both sides, Carthaginians against Republican Romans, played in teams, so the dierolls and the subsequent victory were shared efforts. As was the defeat of the Carthag...
