Re: Why all the Druchii fanboys?
Maedhros is an interesting one Musashi. The fact that Warhammer's High Elves appear to lack similarly complex characters may explain why a lot of people dislike them.

I'm putting together an army which ticks almost all the boxes for me and yet...and yet....it lacks.
I've got a horrible feeling that what it really lacks is the Anointed.

Well my unit is 5-strong, no shields and full command. Exactly the unit that is simply worse than the similarly costed 5 basic Dragon Prince unit! But they look nice...
I'm pretty sure Lord Anathir had some fun running two of the 115pt units in an Archmage list. It's on one of his blog threads.

I'm the first to recognise that my taste may differ from other people's, but to give you examples... The second run of Slaanesh Daemons were simply not as good as the first. A lot of the Undead and Chaos ranges for example were awful. They lost good designers like Kev Adams and did not replace them ...

Re: Why all the Druchii fanboys?
I must admit that there is something seductive about playing Dark Elves.
High Elves just don't come across as badass to the Warhammer player in the street. So they're an easy target.
Check out the chapter on the War of Wrath in The Silmarillion though. Now THAT'S High Elves.

Re: The Glorious Return of SH's
A lot of people consider a unit of five with shields, for 115pts an efficient pick, 10 points being worth paying for upgrading to a 2+ armour save. Also a big cavalry unit with a combat character is significantly cheaper and arguably more cost-efficient if built of Silver Helms rather than Dragon Pr...

Re: Everything Wrong with High Elves.
Historically elite infantry properly equipped stopped any heavy cavalry charge. For me they should do in Warhammer too. Monsters? I can see that weakened, or flanked, or with no magic buffing where the Monster has it, the elites should go down. I'm with Lord Anathir though. For game balance a solo s...

A lot of people kit the Star Dragon Prince out with Armour of Caledor, Vambraces of Defence, Halberd and an Enchanted Item.
Star Lance is popular for a Noble on a horse.
The tank noble on foot is solid.

Cupped Hands v Staff of Solidity
Ok I was idly flicking through the Lizardman book and came to the entry for Cupped Hands of the Old Ones. The way I read this is that if he miscasts, a Slann rolls a D6 and on a result of 2-6 his miscast is cancelled. However the effects are then applied to an enemy wizard in line of sight. This rea...

Re: Boycott of GW Products, due to price increase
I disagree that GW consistently improved their quality for 20 years. Most of the figures in the 90's were inferior to the late 80's stuff. The impression I got was that they lost several top sculptors and said 'we can sell figures without you'. Which was true. That said GW has been making odd price ...

So how do you view a unit of 20 without Lion Standard? Semi-disposable? Or capable of holding in the battle line?

If he uses plenty of magic I think you will need dispel scrolls.
If he doesn't, he's probably got the Ring of Hotek?
In which case I don't think your magic will be a threat to him.
I like the Reaver Bow here (though possibly better on foot) and your army certainly hits hard.

Re: 2250 List vs Daemons & Lizardmen
I've played Saurus-heavy Lizardmen and four blocks of 24 is huge! I had three blocks of 20 and people still raised their eyebrows! The biggest weakness I found with them was against gunlines. They were brilliant against close-combat enemies who came straight at me. Perhaps with your list you'll be a...

Re: viable griffon prince.
Nice idea! The BSB is good and necessary. I know you'll have Drain Magic but defence is still a bit light I reckon. You have room for a scroll on Mage #2, I'd take it. A bit worried about the battle line. They are mostly Ld8 with no fear protection and the LSG won't stand up to good enemy combat uni...

Re: 2250 List vs Daemons & Lizardmen
I guess the anti-Star Lance argument is that it stops you taking the optimal defensive set-up.
Generally I agree with the guys, with some minor differences. I'm just not sure the Star Dragon goes well with three infantry blocks. More DP's and shooting I'd suggest.

Re: 2250 with Dragon Mage
It's interesting. Where does the BSB go? If in the spears they surely can at least fight a bit? Is your general a noble for points reasons or because you think a Prince is just inefficient? I'm guessing that the DM is there mainly for magic defence? He's got his scrolls and the Dragon gives the army...

Banner of Sorcery is indeed best on PG. If you don't have these though, I reckon DP's are the next best choice. White Lions need fear-protection as you've said and it pays dividends on Swordmasters too.

Re: 2000pts Return to Fantasy
Agree with HERO, I'd replace Korhil with a BSB for the re-roll.
I'd swap the Banner of Sorcery for the Standard of Balance. You have nine PD plus the Ring which should be enough. Conversely, the Lions are vulnerable to autobreaking without Balance and it carries other benefits too.

It's really depressing that two of the best posters on here are at each other's throats. I agree that the High Elf book lacks flexibility and flavour. If you have enough ideas for an army though this should not be enough to stop you IMHO. Winning tournaments with them is another matter. Ask Ant Spie...

11 and 12+ spells are not a problem for the Dragon Mage as he adds his free 'reckless' die to the three he would normally use.
That said I really appreciate your stuff PapaElf. Each time I read it I think 'that's true, that's right, why didn't I realise this before...'.

Horses for courses.
Also Dragon Armour can come in handy.
