Re: 2 bolt throwers and 2 eagles..or 3 bolt throwers and 1 eagle

Comped tournaments will penalise you for 4RBT's.

I guess some builds work without Eagles but an Eagle or two is usually very, very handy.

I think Chakax is killable if you actually get round to hitting him for a bit.

I'd be a bit blase with the Slann+Temple Guard myself. Rock hard!

Re: 2k List, Local Friendly Tourny

It looks better. I think maybe it could use an Eagle. Why is the number 5 next to the Lion Chariot?

I'd suggest both the Seerstaff and the Silver Wand to aid spell selection. Ring of Fury is a popular choice too.

Re: 3 Engines of the Gods

Well I'd keep it within 12" of a Slann if I had one, so it'd be a 9 on 3 dice with a BSB re-roll. Not going anywhere in other words.

Even without a Slann, the general's leadership should make it almost unbreakable and even on it's own it's Ld6 I think.

Why not keep it near the general though?

How would Lions work against the Engine? I'm thinking you could survive Rnd 1 and probably kill the Priest in 2 rounds. Then you have a slog against the Steg I guess.

Re: 2250 All Comers List (Semi-Comp'ed)

Completely missed the Steed on the Mage, that's going for it! Some people dislike Sorcery but for me it's one of our big strengths, especially when we've left the Archmage at home. I still don't fancy it on the Lions but if it works for you... I'm very interested in the use of the LSG. I get the fee...

Re: The 9 lores and their uses

I agree with Keith. 11 makes it a 4-dice spell which is about right for what it does IMHO. Lvl2's should not be reliably casting it without some serious contortions.

Re: 2250 Tournament List C&C welcomed

With respect the Dark Elf list you've specified is for GWGT-style tournies IMHO. Most others would TimmyComp ban it or hammer it for comp score. The list is a balanced list which I don't think you'd take to a no-holds-barred tournament expecting to win it. For what it is the units make sense on the ...

Yeah if you can get Drain off afterwards that's a very unpleasant 14 to dispel it in your opponent's turn.

Re: 2250 All Comers List (Semi-Comp'ed)

Well it's a radical list. No Lord choice for a start and those three Lion Chariots. Plenty of shooting, two solid infantry blocks and the Sea Guard. The magic is OK. To get Sorcery in though you've had to take it on the Lions which is risky IMHO. I'd normally go for Balance, seeing as you've put the...

Re: Saphery themed 2000+ pts.

One problem with taking lots of small Swordmaster units is Fear. Sure you can afford to lose one or two but it makes them harder to depend on. With larger units you can take the Fear banners.

I guess Law of Gold is especially suited to nerfing unit banners etc. where there are no characters present.

Would you consider a BSB with Radiant Gem instead of the second lvl 2? I think it might help anchor the army.

Re: First 2250 Tournament List - All Comments Welcome

Most of it is pretty solid I think.

I'd worry about not having enough fighting units as well as the shooting problem. More shooting of your own would address both issues as you wouldn't have to attack quite so quickly, so being out-deployed is less of an issue.

Re: The 9 lores and their uses

Isn't the point with Law of Gold that the opponent nominates the item? So you don't get to see what else he's got and you don't get to disable the Drakenhoff Deathstar for example.

I imagine that's why LoG is a 3-dice spell and Vaul's is 4-dice.

Re: 'Magic' Bows

Trying to be respectful of Empire book copyright here: "Any hits from this bow count as being from a magical weapon." My point is that the magical/non-magical rules for magic bows are a dog's breakfast. My Khemri point was aimed at rebutting the quote given by Franc and I stand by it. I al...

Re: 2k points trying not to use a dragon.

First up I think your Mage costs 140pts not 150? The Prince cannot use his Lance as things stand because the rules dictate he must use the magic weapon. I'd be tempted to go Vambraces + Star Lance. It seems to me that Korhil + BSB in the PG is overkill. I'd drop one or the other. You have a shortage...

Re: 2250 Chracians

Looks decent.

Magic set-up is interesting. I'm a little concerned you might not roll the spells you need but you've certainly got enough raw power for a Prince list.

I'd be tempted to add a guy to the Spears and join them with the BSB.

I too can't help feeling you lack an Eagle or two.

Re: 'Magic' Bows

The Empire Dragon Bow states specifically that it's attacks are magical. As for the argument that only the BRB + Army Book + respective FAQ/Errata holds the rules for a particular army this is not the case. For example Drain Magic affects Khemri Incantations if you follow this logic as a Khemri play...

Re: Competative 2000pts

I agree with Musashi some faster stuff to support the Dragon would be good. I'd also be tempted to swap the Spears out for more Archers. It'll save points and the Archers will at least have some kind of ranged effect to support the Dragon attack. You could then give the War Banner to the Phoenix Gua...

Re: A new look at Shadow Warriors

It took me ages with Wood Elf scouts to learn to use them fully. You can't always get a juicy shooting target but sometimes you can and you need to be alert for it if it comes. If you can't, maybe you can do some marchblocking, maybe you can set-up a charge on a war machine. It's all about being fle...

Re: A new look at Shadow Warriors

This is it. Sure you can look at SW's and say "Shades are better" but we don't get Shades! The bottom line is that for all their failings, SW's Scout and Skirmish which nothing else we have can do. For the same cost you can get more shooting from Archers but it's about where you can get th...

Re: Magic against Lizardmen

Most people field them on foot. Mounted offers little extra in a foot unit and sending them off with cavalry can be risky. I'd advise usually keeping them in a substantial unit until that unit is in danger of close combat or of being massively shot or magicked. Then move them out.

Re: A new look at Shadow Warriors

Thing is Waywatchers cost 24 points. I guess you'd want 2 hand weapons and some other bonus before upping the SW points. Waywatchers are the 'scoutiest' scouts in the game though and rightly so IMHO. As an ex-Wood Elf player I'm a huge fan of skirmishers, even in 7th. I've got a 'not to' story! Play...
