Re: Terrain and its impact on the game.
Personally, I go for a mix between 7th and 8th. Most of the terrain pieces follow the rules for their basic terrain forms. So a forrest is a forrest and a river is a river. Per match I go for a few special terrain features, either rolling for them or picking a type from the lists. So, if for instanc...

Re: Dragonmage and spell selection
Here is the last discussion on it, from the rules forum: Dragon mage spell selection Basically, the answer is that no-one knows for sure. There are a few options: 1. He can only swap for Flaming Sword 2. He can swap for either Flaming Sword or Fireball but not both (unless you roll a double of cours...

The Ruby Ring of Ruin is under 25 points, so just put it on a unit champion. That way, you still have the same magic phase, but you are within the points limit.

My army is currently in the cabinet over at GW Rotterdam, netherlands. Realy? Cool! I might just hop over there during my lunch break and have a look in person. I'm working pretty much around the corner from the GW in Rotterdam. edit: Just saw them in real life, and I must say that the photo's don'...

Re: My Throne of skulls (3 wins 1 draw 1 lose)
Hmmm not sure with the SW/GE balance it feels a lot but I never played a heavy gunline. The SW's were okay most games, maybe dropping them for a 4th eagle and a few more PG would be better overall. (it doesn't help i like the models...) I know the feeling. I realy like the SW models and try to fit ...

Re: My Throne of skulls (3 wins 1 draw 1 lose)
I was wondering about your list. How is the unit of 10 PG working for you? They seem to do nothing other than carry the banner of sorcery and perhaps as a mage bunker. This seems fairly expensive in a list with so few special units. Wouldn't they function better as WL or even SM. Personally I would ...

I definatly think there should be waves on the base of the dragon. I think there are 3 options I would consider: - have waves crash on the rock the dragon is jumping off - have the dragon climb up onto the rock emerging from the sea - change the rock into a big wave and have that wave "lauch&qu...

Love the spearmen. Are they the old mono-pose plastics? They look great. Does the armour have that slightly red-ish tint in real life too, or is that just the picture?

Re: Same Race Allied Army = multiple BSB's & Generals
I would say it depends on the army, people you play and goal of the allied list. If your aim is to create overpowered combinations (like twin Teclis's or BoH and Banners of Sorcery) I would definatly not be amused and probably simply not play. Same goes if you play in a group where allied armies nev...

Re: Banner of the Eternal Flamme
Yes. Unless otherwise stated, flaming applies to all non-magical attacks made by a model. It is here important to stress that it applies only to non-magical attacks. I take this to mean that if a character is in the unit with a magical weapon he doesn't get flaming attacks. This also counts if he h...

Re: Ideas for % Allowances
I'm not too sure about this idea. For specials it's not relevant (or very rarely at least). with 25% core and at least 25% spent on characters by many there is only 50% left anyway. increasing that is not usefull at all. For the Lord and Hero %. This could be an option, but I don't know enough other...

Re: 50 Phoenix Guard
My thoughts on the weaknesses of this unit. first of, it can only be in 1 place at the same time. Thus it can only be in something like 4 combats it chooses. I know the point of this unit is that it doesn't loose points, but it won't be making many either. With 800 or more points spent in this unit ...

Re: Banner of eternal flame question
fair enough, my explanation wasn't completely accurate. However, you seem to forget something as well. There is a very clear order in which the saving trows need to be made. So, this would give: 1. shoot (the whole unit shoots at the same time...) 2. roll hits 3. roll wounds 4. roll saves. subdevide...

They could be wearing the cloaks of dead white lions  Well, you have to be honest, wearing the cloack of a live white lion probably isn't too good for your health... Great scheme. Re: Banner of eternal flame question
I think you misunderstood my point (or disagree with it, always a possibility as wel of course). The sequence is: 1. shoot (the whole unit shoots at the same time...) 2. roll hits 3. roll wounds 4. roll saves Regeneration is lost if you manage to cause a wound, which is in step 3. In the BRB it does...

Q. For characteristic tests, is the best value in the unit always used? (p10) A. If the unit is required to take a characteristic test, the best value in the unit is used. If every model in a unit is required to take a characteristic test, then each model uses its own best value instead. I think th...

We've already had this debate before (in a slightly different context, but still. I'll quote the outcome of the last debate to save myself time. Re: Rock, Paper, Scissors - a warhammer quandary
Interesting discussion. A few points of my own: As to the original post that in real life armies are balanced because those are better, I'm not sure this is true (in all cases). If you fight with "closed lists" or with a closed list against a known enemy then a specialised army can actuall...

Re: Assassin Mage or Assassin Noble
Going with the Mage as compared to a Noble does reduce the effectiveness of the spell due to its lower Ld score and reduces the unit’s overall combat effectiveness. However, the Mage can generate additional PD thanks to channelling and the Jewel of the Dusk. Actually, because he is a lvl 1 mage the...

the BoH in a skaven army wouldn't be as good in an environment with only Ogre players (they are imune to the 13th). What about the poor old Gnoblars? :) poor gnoblars? Hmm, maybe my post was slightly misunderstood. I was speaking in general term and only using the BoH as an example. I probably should try to make my point better. Re: Will Island of Blood models released separately ?
My guess is they won't be released separately. I think the LSG are released separately because they are meant to be fielded in big units. Even 20 from 2 sets of IoB is on the low side for 1 unit. not to mention this would give you 2 sets of command models. With this in mind it is logical to put them...

Not completely: we have 2 books, both of wich agree on the number of wounds on the profile (it is nice when they are consistent). We also have a book that sais that you don't use the number of wounds of the profile but the number of crew members instead. This is simply a result of going from one edi...

Re: Repeater Bolt Thrower - Crew & Wounds
No, it's 2 wounds only. Check the warmachine section in the BRB: it sais there that in some older armybooks (like the HE armybook) a warmachine can have a number of wounds listed and that this number can differ from the amount of crew it has. It then states that this number is only listed for comple...

I like the paint scheme overall. However, personally I would paint the horse a different color. At the moment the horse blends in with rider a bit. If you paint him lighter or black you get slightly more contrast, which benefits the model I feel. Also, I would recommend getting some green-stuff to f...

+1. But keep in mind that Dragon armour is not a magical item. It is simply armour. Thus you can take a magical banner and DA.grantmepower wrote:Anybody who gives both a magic banner and magical items is breaking the rules, plain and simple. You get one or the other.

Re: Poll - Silver Helms as core. Would you take them?
I believe that if Silver Helms move to core there will be many people who will abandon archers/seaguard/spearmen. Especially in offensive armies Silver Helms will be no brainer choice. In 6th edition all other core did not sell at all so GW rectified this in 7th edition armybook, thus making Silver...

You can even deploy 1 wide if you wish and hide in the 4th rank. Also (and this is playing devils advocate a bit), following a strict interpretation of the rules you only have to move to the front rank when joining a unit or when using the "Make Way" rule to get into combat. As far as I ca...
