Re: Any tips to avois stupid mistakes?

Tip #1 - Use spell check on your titles! Tip#2 - If you have the magic cards, keep the magic cards for your mages AND the enemy mages handy. I refer to them constantly while I'm moving to remember what the distances are, who to stay away from, and measure contantly. Keeping them in mind also helps s...

Re: Brewmaster D's Coven of Light Blog - Updated Battle 04/26

Not worrying about the cannon too much, I think that your best bet would have been to base a bit more on the eastern side of the field. Forcing the knights and steam tank to travel through the temple (Forest) would have kept them at bay a little more, giving you more time to blast. The failures to c...

Re: Curu Olannon's Vindicators - 2500pts Army Blog

The question is this: If two models are going to engage in a challenge, who moves to who? The challenger or the challengee? In this case both models can move to the other just as easily, and since it's your turn, you get to decide whether you challenge him or accept his (as he's obligated to issue ...

Re: Curu Olannon's Vindicators - 2500pts Army Blog

Doesn't the Vamp lord need to accept and issue challenges? I would just have him fight the White Lion champion to keep all those juicy kills on the knights and pop him through combat resolution. BSB reduces the number of wounds they would normally suffer by 1, but just like combat, it's possible to...

Hard to say here. I'm not sure what blocks LOS here. Deployment - I'd have gone for 30 inch deployment, and held the large archer unit till last (to face off against his crossbows). If he wins first turn, he has to move closer turn 1, you move 1 inch, and magic and archers the crossbow unit to obliv...

Re: Curu Olannon's Vindicators - 2500pts Army Blog

As you have to maximize for all units charging, the white lions could actually fit (they'd clip the corner.) Giving you 4 archers in contact, 2 white lions, Saerith, and Naenor. Naenor accepts the challenge, otherwise you accept with the white lion champion, which gives you two wounds, but means 4 a...

Heroes do not have to move to an open position in battle. The rules say to fill with RnF. They only have to move to the front outside of combat. Incorrect. Main rulebook FAQ, page 8 - "Q: Must a character be moved to the front rank of a unit as soon as a space becomes available? (p100) A: Yes....

Excellent to hear. means if I have a forest in my deployment I can drop lions in there to find out what it is and be safe and sound. Not so fast. White Lions - "Strider + Stubborn most certainly help too, believe me!" I googled regarding this for a bit but didn't find much help. Doesn't the forest strider special rule have no affect on infantry and therefore don't help the White Lions at all? The strider rule says "Unit does n...

I had three games this weekend (preparations for a small escalation tournament coming up, the numbers will be 1k, 2k, 3k), while I didn't take extensive notes, I figured I'd post a quick review! Re: White Lion v Phoenix Guard

Suggest - Lore of Beasts with Phoenix guard + hero (noble or prince is fine) with AoC and Great weapon. The unit goes from solid to devestating. I can't think of a bad match up for them so far, and I've been trying. Wyssan's is an excellent default, which ups the guard from being fairly tough to nig...

Re: Eagle (Or Any Other Flyer) Charging A War Machine

But arcs are derived from a center point of a unit. They're specifically defined by the base on the unit. There's not even a forward arc for warmachines, they just point in the direction they want to fire to draw line of sight from tip to target. No base = No flank/rear/front. If you assume from the...

Re: Question about a charge move

From the looks of it: Masters are fighting Vargheist. His new unit, if they're flush with the fight, would hit the house (or be within an inch of the house), so they can't charge. If the Masters were unengaged, and the grave guard couldn't close the door, the Masters would close the door in this sit...

Also - As you only have White Lions and Swordmasters, you don't have re-rolls against the witch elves. Init 10 can come in handy here. Or just blast em off the table before they get to you.

Re: Eagle (Or Any Other Flyer) Charging A War Machine

The rules for Warmachines tell you how to resolve a charge against a warmachine.

The rule is: With at most a single 90 degree wheel, move your model so it is in contact with the war machine. The war machine aligns to that facing.

This was discussed thoroughly on the Warhammer forum. I think the end result was - There's nothing stopping you from addressing each Character on an individual basis prior to moving the unit. Has the unit moved? No. The rule simply says "A character in a unit" can charge out, it doesn't di...

Re: MSU HE - 2500 vs Goblins

If Goblins fear High Elves, then consider all High Elf units to have the rule "Fear" (when fighting goblins). So the Goblin hero with "Fear" is against the archers who also have "Fear", so they cancel out (no fear test). For the Lions against the mounted hero, they're f...

Isn't it quicker to have a shadow lv4 casting miasma to lower I and then cast "abîme de noirceur" (the 5th spell, sorry doesn't remember English name)? Dwellers gives you a distance to cast, while Purple Sun of Xerse (right?) can be roll a very limited distance. On the other side, shadow ...

You mention his heroes had fear/terror items. While they don't have to test, the units still would (change in 8th, fear/terror are not shared between characters and units). So if Caradryn is in a unit of white lions against a fear causing target, he doesn't test for fear, but the white lions would. ...

Re: MSU HE - 2500 vs Goblins

I think early game panic tests are one of the greatest weaknesses of any army, not just an MSU army (although there are a great deal more panic tests to be taken, you're going to fail some, but you're also less likely to lose that massive unit turn 1). Your general first turn movement clustered your...

Added note - Save the big spells for last. 1 - It means the enemy has to save his dice to counter it. 2 - If the enemy dispels other spells first, you don't have to over whelm his defenses to get it past 3 - If it IF's on your first cast, he still keeps his DD to stop the rest of your phase 4 - Most...

If you look at the armies books that have come out for 8th edition, I think most people are missing the big corrections that are going on. TK - Magic correction fit 8th edition magic generation rules, no magical charging into battle. Create unique units to compensate for a lack of infantry effective...

Update! The game is mid way through (ok two turns in) but there's some difficulty in timing against my opponent, so it may not finish at all. Yeah, Chosen that roll a 7 or 2 at the start can re-roll. As they can adjust their roll by 1, and can't duplicate skills, you give them terror mask (10 fear, 11 terror) and the following is how it works out. Roll 2-3 (moved to 2, re-roll) 4-5 - Stay 6-8 Move to 7, reroll 9-10 move to 10, re-roll 11-...
