Re: Strategies for army types - naming thread

Anvil Chorus or The Linchpin The concept is to blend the Anvil with MSU. Take a solid RNF unit (either 30 or so spears, or 25 or so PG), and plant them front and center, with a whorl of elite hard hitters in flank position (White Lions, Swordmasters, chariots, DP's). Anvil slams into place (head fir...

Re: How would you handle these Horde Armies?

Flames of the Phoenix only activates during your own magic phases, not the enemy's, so they can still dispel it in their turn and avoid the S4 hits in your next magic phase. Anyway, I think such horde armies can be a shocking surprise to many! And I can see many armies struggling against them when ...

Re: 2000 pts vs Dwarves

Seerstaff should be nice with death - Soulblight, Bjunas, Purple Sun, and the -3 leadership (cuz GODS dwarves have too much leadership). I also like cloak of beards (if I know I'm playing dwarves). Their runes are very undercosted, making their fighty characters hard as nails. The cloak makes em cak...

Re: How would you handle these Horde Armies?

Lore of Death is my go to lore most of the time. Other lores that would be fun: Heavens - Comet in the midst - Large units have no where to run. Knockback spell on fanatics into enemy units. Chain lightning that can hit every unit potentially. Hordes create clutter, so this uses that clutter against...

Re: EMP vs HE - This one was quick...

If you're going to take a dragon, you're going to need multiple threats, and a combat presence that's fast, hard, and deadly, so if they focus the dragon, they're going to get nailed. To this extent, Radiant Gem is a really ugly choice. Your prince wants to get into combat, he's safe there, and anyt...

Re: 1500 Competitve List

I would definitely consider splitting one of that spearmen group into two small units of archers. Those spears are just begging to be hit by a mortar, and having a back field threat gives you a slight threat at range. I'd also consider Heavens magic. Take away the advantage of range, drop a comet on...

Re: How large should a 'stable' special infantry unit be?

5 swordmasters as a deflector unit is decent. An eagle has 3 wounds, no armoursave, and no ASF, with only 2 attacks. While the swordmasters have 10 ASF attacks, high WS, str 5, and 5 wounds among em. Let em take an ugly charge and lead it to nowhere, charge chafe units and win, etc. They're fun, and...

Helm of Fortune on a DP Champion

I was thinking of a neat twist to really make the unit of dragon princes gain some survability without adding too much cost, and I think this would work nicely. This would bump him to a 1+ re-rollable armoursave. If the unit takes a massive amount of shooting, or fire, he'll likely survive (make the...

Re: Return of Seredain the Cavalry Prince - 2.5K

Mighty Empires - First Game - Daemons Ah- another one more thing. My first game is this coming Thursday, against Daemons. I'm mostly aware of what this guy has (massive bloodletter unit of 30 or so (hee hee), 20 daemonettes, some juggernauts, some fast Slannesh ogre-sized things), as well as some o...

Re: Revamp - Combat Oriented - 2500 Pt Tournie List

Now I'm completely tweaking the list, and seeing what I can end up with. I've dropped a mage, made the BSB a little more survivable (with a survivable prince as well, with a bit of combat punch) and we'll see how this goes... thoughts? Domo Eragato Prince - Barded Steed, Dragon Armour, Enchanted Shi...

Re: First 2500pt list for Tournament

I always find SM horribly squishy to shooting. If you fight empire, dwarves, dark elves, they melt very quickly. Once they're in combat, they're fairly safe. But I shy from taking two units of them. I'm not sure if BoEF and the Magic Attacks will stack (BRB flaming attacks can't be magical. Or maybe...

Re: Double Dragon - 2500 Pt Tournie List

Well the Tournie leans towards less "mean" lists, and apparently the dragons were dubbed too hard. Personally thought it was fluffy with a twist... but updated list: Lv4 Archmage - Talisman of Protection, Jewel of Dusk, High - 285 Lv2 Mage - Silver Wand, Fire - 145 BSB - Barded Steed, Drag...

Revamp - Combat Oriented - 2500 Pt Tournie List

Playing a 2500 round robin tournament, and since I've been avoiding dragons like the plague for 8th edition, I figured if I was going to dip a toe in the pool, I might as well make a splash, so here's the list. Prince - Moon Dragon, Greatsword, Armour of Caledor, Vambraces of Defense, The Other Tric...

Re: Shooting Dragon Mage Army 2500

Easy answer - Take death instead of shadow. Lose the slowing of the enemy (you were only slowing one enemy at a time anyway), and allows you to 1. Reduce toughness be D3, Reduce Strength by D3 (on different units, so the unit that's in combat gets less strength, while the unit that's farther away an...
