Re: Choices Vs Dwarves

Hey man, Woa, that's a lorra models you got there. So basically you want advice on complete army setup? Clearly the theme you're going for here is infantry legion so let's roll with that. How many points are you looking at? The problem you've got is that you've taken 400 pts of shooting yet still fe...

Re: 1500 vs. Lizzies and Brets

Against those enemies at this point value, I would never take High Magic. I would. If your army has 2 RBT's (and, better, a RB noble), then curse of arrow attraction becomes a must-dispel spell, as is fury of khaine, as is drain magic. With your army selection the choice isn't so clear, but drain m...

Wonderful reports, Vaul, and a really great paint job an all your minis. I haven't caught the O&G one yet but I look forward it immensely.

Good work!

Guys, I've hit the jackpot. Technically this isn't on topic, but we're talking about stupid people and a stupid legal system and some of us have made reference to the "suing McDonalds for hot coffee" lady... I've found her. An what's more, she has a whole set of awards named after her. Thi...

Re: 'Magic' Bows

The bolt thrower as presented might sink a rowboat, puncture a small sailing ship, but unlikely to trouble a ship of the line unduly. Very true. But then for years the RBT fluff has talked about the eagle claws being "by far the most common" of the torsion-powered engines used by the High...

By which he means it's 2d6 hits on anything, distributed like shooting. In other words get that spell off on a steam tank and it's toast.

Oh. Er... Maybe he's just not very good at it.

If he's a swordmaster, shouldn't he be using a GW? And shouldn't he also be a hero-level character like Korhil and Caradryan?

That was quite a result you got there. Great report (really good programme all round), and I really like your balanced list.

Can I ask how much magic defense that Daemon army had? It seems your spells really ripped through them.

Re: Hallar, Master of Blades

It's just that 7th Tyrion isn't very 'elfy'. He's a Str 7 tank without much extra skill going on. In 6th he had that parry and ripost rule which I thought was a lovely little addition. Just added a bit more character, which I think is important for special characters. Obviously. In general I actuall...

Re: phoenix guard vs white lions

That Lizardman battle is I think the best use for Lions Seredain. Go for a unit you can compete with then slowly whittle it down. Meanwhile you've march-blocked and simply road-blocked all the enemy around. Your fast stuff makes a huge hole elsewhere. You need to be aggressive with Lions I think. A...

Re: 2 bolt throwers and 2 eagles..or 3 bolt throwers and 1 eagle

I've recently built a comp'd 2250 list in which I've taken 2 of each, but for a no-restrictions army I'd take the 3-1 ratio. I mean that lvl4 archmage + lvl2 mage + reaver bow noble + 3 RBT's will turn lots of enemy armies into kindling. The combo rocks ass. You need the eagle at 2000+ points, thoug...

Re: phoenix guard vs white lions

Yep, 10 lions is by far the best choice. I use a unit of 12 at 1500 to 2250 points and they're a wonderfully felxible unit. Not just as speed-bumps, either. I give mine full command + lion banner (essential to guarentee your stubborn) + gem of courage when I can find the points, and use them with gr...

On Core Silver Helms: Having them being core but not counting towards min-requirement almost keeps them at their current status, really (unless your army is going massive msu silver helms and you don't want to use all your special slots). Re: 3 Engines of the Gods

I've played against temple guard only once, but I really didn't find them to be a problem. That fact that they can only fight in one rank means that our swordmasters can turn them into paste without them having the chance to throw many/any attacks back. As it turns out that's exactly what happened. ...

Re: 1500 points Infantry List vs Lizardmen

That's true. Wise words, Musashi, wise words. And then Dark Elves have their bolt throwers as 2 for 1 rare choices, so technically I'm just doing that. Also, shooting range is one of the mega advantages that High Elves have over lizards. It would seem silly to waste it. Anyway, thanks for the help. ...

Re: 1500 points Infantry List vs Lizardmen

Think I'll take the skeinsliver for all the above reasons. If I don't get the first turn then oh well, but if I do that the 25 points is going to be cheap for the free round of shooting. It's annoying to lose the gem but the white lions are already immune to fear and I don't intend on having them lo...

Re: 3 Engines of the Gods

You might be able to kill the priest in one round with the chariot. Have lions and crew all attacking him: 6 attacks at ws5 str 5 = 4 hits, 3/4 wounds. If you score 4 wounds then with a save of 4+ the skink should die. If you only score 3, you've got a 50/50 shot! Impact hits should do at a wound on...

Hopefully not). Loss of a dragon prince makes the un...

I haven't had to worry too much about sallies at these points. 1500 points Infantry List vs Lizardmen

Hi guys, I've built this list for an upcoming battle against 1500pt lizards, though obv I'd like an army that's a bit 'all comers'. More or less this is my first fully painted army ever. :D My problem is that I've sort of been trying to ween myself off shooting a bit, but I miss that 2nd bolt throwe...

Ha ha... shows what a difference 2 points' worth of kit can make... Yeah, lance seems the best choice. Unfortunately in 7th you can't choose multiple weapons on your characters so you won't be able to take the GW as well. At least when he's using a hand weapon on foot he gets a save of 2+ in combat....

Just to clarify guys,

Are you saying that drain magic's ability to increase casting values also affects the casting values of spells which were cast before DM was cast?

I assume that's right, in which case how long will bear's anger have a value of 10 for? End of the opponent's magic phase?

If I may say so, I like everything about this list. Really fluffy and you're going to have lots of fun redirecting all of your opponents killer units while you shoot and flank them into the ground. Don't heed calls to reduce you swordmaster unit size- I think a block of them is perfectly fine. It ju...
