Re: Wish list for new HE units

Granted, Griffons and Manticores alike are still a pretty appalling choice for both armies, especially in 8th edition, but at least it's an opportunity to use the model. I'd certainly consider using a Griffon rider in smaller point games, just for the variety and the challenge.

Re: Wish list for new HE units

Wider availability of monstrous mounts for Nobles. I would love to see Nobles on Sun Dragons or Griffons, especially with the great new Griffon model being released.

Re: So its come to this... Dragons!

Indeed, I don't really look at warmachines as a tremendous reason not to take a Dragon. The same can be said for any of our units, versus any of our opponents; they have weaknesses, and when you come across an opponent who can exploit those weaknesses, you have to be careful. I'm perfectly okay taki...

Re: Slann, Lizardmen and the Lore of Light

I'm building my lists to have some casting presence, but I would rather rely on the concrete presence of combat elements rather than a magic-heavy approach. If you break down the variables of the magic phase (rolling the right spells, generating enough dice to cast them, being within range of your t...

Re: Storming the watchtower, Reason to take Sword Masters?

Obviously, a lot depends on terrain rolls, but it's not too tough to stack the terrain in your favor a bit during setup. For example, if you end up a water feature as well as a few obstacles/barricades, you can deploy the water feature centrally and a barricade fairly close so that you can gain the ...

Re: Storming the watchtower, Reason to take Sword Masters?

There's some fluff in the army book on this isn't there? There is indeed, describing Swordmasters holding a river crossing against a Dark Elf attack led by a coven of Dark Elf sorcerers. When Teclis arrived to combat the coven's magic, the Swordmasters led a counter-attack that routed the Druchii. ...

Not sure if this is really the place to put this, as I'm brand new to this forum but, does anyone know of a place to find any good artwork of Ulthuan, Asur, or anything high elf related? Try to get your hands on a copy of the older 6th edition armybook. The artwork in there is breathtaking, and vir...

Re: So its come to this... Dragons!

A few general thoughts on dragons in 8th edition: Dragons can no longer break regiments entirely on their own, but that's also why I like them more in 8th edition. Players will complain about them less, and the basic Core choice of virtually every army can fight and pin a dragon for most of the game...

Re: So its come to this... Dragons!

Here's the 2500 I would use if I were running a Star Dragon. There's leeway here in terms of points, too. The Core can be reshuffled, obviously, to include more spearmen or LSG depending on preference. The same is true for Special, since the Lion Chariot can be dropped to bulk up the White Lions or ...

Re: Storming the watchtower, Reason to take Sword Masters?

It's certainly viable, but also extraordinarily specific. If you end up rolling the Watchtower scenario, and if you have the right spells, and if you end up getting the Swordmasters into combat with the watchtower, and if you're able to buff the Swordmasters beforehand, then yes, they'll do well. Ev...

Re: BR: 2500 High Elves vs. Dwarfs

Good game, good read. I find that games where I suffer a horrible loss in Turn 1 are often games that I win. As a player, the loss encourages you to play better and more efficiently with your remaining troops, while your opponent may get overconfident and careless. I've had full units of elite infan...

Re: [2K] High Elves VS Warriors of Chaos: The Chosens roll 6,6!

Said it before on this forum and I'll say it again. 3+ ward saves are broken. 3+ ward saves on one of, if not the best heavy infantry units in the game is an offense against God. True... If your opponent rolls it. Similarly, wiping out your opponent's entire army with Purple Sun is similarly offens...

Re: So its come to this... Dragons!

I agree that Archmage's seem pretty dominant now, dragon riders are still exceedingly powerful. Their synergy with elite infantry is truly excellent; if you encounter an enemy that you really don't want to fight with T3 Elves, having a dragon to help trouble-shoot the problem is invaluable. Also, a ...

Re: How I would have done Cavalry in 8th edition

I certainly agree that not enough attention was paid to flank charges. For the most part, I only envision flank charges as a way to get more models into combat to break Steadfast units, because the actual swings in combat resolution that you receive from a flank charge are pretty laughable, especial...

Exactly - which nerfs the High Elves one gain for the 8th Ed rules! I think that one spell being cast from one lore hardly constitutes a "nerf" for High Elves. Overall, I think Lizardmen will easily sweep competitive playing environments in 8th edition. I already believe they were massive...

Dreaded 13th can certainly provide an easy win for Skaven. A cheap Greyseer still provides the Skaven army with Leadership 10, and can nail Dreaded 13th every turn with appalling ease. There really isn't a great solution here either, besides trying to get across the table quickly and hoping that luc...

Forests, ponds/marshes/rivers, buildings. Each one of these confers huge advantages when fighting against this sort of army. Deploy these terrain pieces centrally and try to form as much of a wall with them as your terrain rolls allow. If you use an alternative method of generating terrain, or you p...

Here's a quick question, and a honest one at that. I'm High Elves and your Dark Elves. As Dark Elves, what are you afraid of in my army? When I face Skaven, I typically split my battle line into two parts. Correct, Hotek is heavily nerfed. The ring must be within 12 inches of the caster, and no longer stops the spell from casting. A successful cast will still go off, the caster might just have to roll on the miscast table too. Flaming Attacks Banner. Cheap, easy. Put it on White Lions, for 3-4 wounds ...

Shooting still has value in touching things you don't want to get close to. For example, Skaven. You could run the risk of getting hosed down with a Warpfire Thrower, or you can gun it down with one turn of longbow fire. Similarly, you could cruise into combat against a Plague Furnace on full wounds...

I agree that 8th is a massive improvement over 7th, but also agree that the nerf to RBTs is unfortunate, unexpected, and unnecessary.
