Pretty solid. I'd drop one unit of Swordmasters to take the PG to 20 and the Lions to 14.

Re: 2250 list of upcoming tournement (has been playtested a bit)

Yep that's a standard and effective load out. Dabber's is good too. The two mages are effective because they can be pretty sure of getting spells which will hurt the enemy. Without Seer/Silver Wand or an equivalent, a Wizard risks rolling Fireball etc. and not contributing as much.

Re: Silver Wand v Staff of Solidity

Yeah the Dragon Mage has first call on the Silver Wand I guess. This and the Seerstaff do seem to be most people's first choice picks for Arcane, in whichever set-up.

Re: High Elves - Playing to Win, Part 1 - Lords and Heroes

What defensive items do you take on the rider Delaqure? Against a shooty army you need to be a little circumspect I feel. Other fast units attacking, together with good shooting of your own tends to help. Sure if the Dragon goes down it's very bad news but this is our most competitive build at the e...

Re: 2250 list of upcoming tournement (has been playtested a bit)

I think there's a decent case for Seerstaff on the level 4 but Toran certainly has a good case too. You've got 12-14 Power Dice but the level 2's will struggle to use theirs on useful spells unless you're lucky with spell selection. If you're sticking with Seer on the Archmage I'd give the Silver Wa...

Re: 2250 All-Comers List (AM/DM Build)

I'd worry about shooty armies. Dragonmage has no protection at all. I know he is offensively very good but you have no margin for error here. Also war machines are obviously bad news for your chariots. I'm not saying such an army will slaughter you, just that there are issues. Conversely VC's will o...

So you still hold to the view in your tactica Lord Anathir.

Would you consider the Staff of Solidity worth taking if it stopped a miscast per turn for example?

Re: Silver Wand v Staff of Solidity

I guess it partly depends on the Lore you take and the kind of spells you want. With Foxbat's Fire strategy you know you are going to get some blasty spells, even if they are not quite the ones you would have picked. Rolling for Pit of Shades though could be dodgy as if you don't get it the other sp...

But VC rubbish Core is partly unbreakable and causes Fear. It's the combination of this with the powerful Vampires and the superb magic that makes it work.

I agree though, we do have tools to fight them.

Re: Silver Wand v Staff of Solidity

Thanks for all the feedback so far guys. Right now I'm inclining towards the Wand as targeted spell selection is our thing, whereas miscast protection and taking four rolled spells most armies can do. I always think back to the Wood Elf game I lost largely because I rolled exactly the wrong four spe...

I suppose it's the only way to get MR without eating a banner slot.

Also could be useful against Daemons etc.?

Re: Silver Wand v Staff of Solidity

Yes Teclis has effectively Seer, Wand and Staff ++ doesn't he? :)

People do tend to give the Seerstaff to their first level two if it's not gone to the Archmage, for obvious reasons.

What's the thinking behind the Amulet of Fire?

Re: Silver Wand v Staff of Solidity

Yeah I can't see a lot of point taking the staff on a Mage. Only the Archmage, who wants to be getting off 4-dice spells with the attendant risks of miscasting should consider it.

So would you consider that the Silver Wand would leave you too exposed Foxbat?

Re: Silver Wand v Staff of Solidity

That's what I'm trying to assess. Just how much of a risk is miscasting these days, given that taking an Archmage commits you to magic fairly heavily? On the other hand the Staff only gives one 'ignore'. Do you feel that you can still garner an effective set of spells without the Wand or Seer?

Silver Wand v Staff of Solidity

I'm pondering equipping an Archmage with the Staff of Solidity. The idea of course is to give a slight cushion against the miscast items now prevalent. This does though eat the Arcane slot so would forego the improved spell selection of the Silver Wand. Do people think that given the recent army boo...

Re: Observations on High Elven Wargaming

The problem is not that HE are a bad army. It's that they start the game at a disadvantage against Daemons, DE and VC. So with equally skilled generals, the latter are likely to win. This is a recent army book problem though, it is not HE specific.

Re: High Elves - Playing to Win, Part 1 - Lords and Heroes

But missile fire etc. coming in is randomized if you're on a monster, you only have a 1-in-3 chance of the rider being hit. On a horse the +1 AS is all you get. Which can be bad news against war machines.
