Re: 2000 pts HE vs DE - Tips and tactics on list?

Sounds good! That's the thing with the Dragon Mage, he is vulnerable, which is why many players don't rate the unit. If played carefully he can be effective though. The Shadow Warriors sound brilliant! Excellent! Dragon Princes aren't best used in frontal charges on ranked units. Maybe if you can sh...

Re: Why dragon armor?

I see what you mean!

This does appear to flatly contradict the later point in the FAQ about spells from Pink Horrors and Lords of Change NOT causing Flaming Attacks though.

On balance I think you're right and the later point is simply a mistake from GW.

Re: 2000 pts HE vs DE - Tips and tactics on list?

Most of your units look Ok now. There's a slight issue with the combat infantry, is it too slow to support the Dragons? Maybe not a huge problem. It's more common to back up the Star Dragon with lots of DP's and RBT's than a Dragon Mage but hey, you like Dragons! The problem your DP unit has is that...

Re: White Lions!

Surely with Stubborn troops the BSB is key? With it you're looking at 1-in-9 which I would trust for a while. Lions don't need characters in the unit, they don't need numbers like PG do and they don't need missile protection like Swordmasters. Keith I much prefer the last list to the others. Firstly...

Re: Why dragon armor?

The Dark Elf FAQ states that their magical crossbow, Lifetaker does not make magic attacks. So if 2 out of 3 elf armies work this way I think it applies to us too. There are specific exceptions like the Empire's Dragon Bow but this is mentioned in it's description. Yes the Aura thing ocurred to me t...

Re: Why dragon armor?

Well the fluff explains that the horse armour of the DP's is magically forged but that doesn't cover Dragons I guess. Equally though, a rectangle is not a 'lance' formation. It's equally nonsensical. The argument is used that magic bows don't fire magic arrows hence the attacks aren't magical. Purel...

Re: Submit and Discuss your rules questions!

Does the wording on the Talisman specifically refer to 'Magic Weapons'?

If so presumably the Wight Blades are weapons making 'Magic Attacks' but do not count as 'Magic Weapons' and so bypass the Talisman?

Re: 2000 pts HE vs DE - Tips and tactics on list?

The problem with units of 15 Spears is that they are too big to be cheap support units and too small to fight effectively. This problem is greater with LSG because you're not using the bows of the third rank. So people normally go for either 10's or 20's. 10 LSG work well as guards for RBT's as they...

Re: Why dragon armor?

My point was that there are many counter-intuitive things about the game. The rules as they stand on Dragon Armour and mount are cast-iron.

Still, everyone is free to play as he wants I guess.

It's the Shadow Warriors Deathstar! :)

I'd take two units of 10 SeaGuard, drop the magic standard and maybe the command figures. You could split the Shadow Warriors into two units of 7.

I think it's best to either go for two level one scroll caddies or go lvl2's and take the Banner. Otherwise the stone will just get lost in dispel dice and scrolls.

Re: I love high elves! Including the army book!

There are plenty of positive comments in other threads too. It may seem that people are just complaining about everything but I think it stems from frustration. People want to make characterful armies and to do well with them. This is easier with the books that have been released since High Elves. P...

Re: Right, my WARCON 2009 List. Just a few questions.

I'd be tempted to swap the War Banner for the Lion Standard. As things stand your units are a bit vulnerable to Fear, even with the Prince's leadership. I'd try to find the four points for the BSB's Great Weapon. The Seaguard look Ok, especially to help the RBT's. I would also try to find 10 points ...

I'd be tempted to put an extra Dragon Prince in the big unit to give yourself a rank bonus.

Lacking magic, I think you will miss the bolt shooters.

Another great thing about Dragon Armour is that it gives the immunities to the mount too, for example a Star Dragon! :)

Here's some more things you can laugh off:

Skaven Warpfire
Many, many spells.
All Breath Weapon attacks from Dragons, Nurgle gifts and others.

How does this cautious HE strategy deal with gunlines? Dwarfs and Empire do this better than we do.

Re: Balanced High Elf list - thoughts

That's what puts me off the foot Prince/Infantry heavy build. Dwarfs, CW etc. being slower and tougher seem naturally more suited to it. I feel like we should be using our movement advantages more. Having said that, M5 is a big plus here, we actually have a chance of getting into combat. The problem...

Re: My first tournament list - 2250 points

The list as a whole looks pretty sound. Bit by bit... I agree with kelevandros about the Great Weapon on the Prince. Other than that I think he's pretty sound. Ld10 can be very useful and he's a bit better than a Noble in combat. BSB looks Ok I assume he goes with the infantry? I agree that the magi...

We have ASF. Other armies have other equally good things, better in the case of the big 3.

Re: This list turns me on, but does it turn you on? 2250

Firstly if you love Tyrion, stick with him. I'll bet you learn to use him quite effectively sooner or later. Some people get by with no mages at all. I'd always take the caddy though. There are worse spells in the game than 2D6 Magic Missiles and those you will want to scroll. Dabber is right (as us...
