Re: Teclis/Book of Hoeth IF chance
Spells cast IF with Teclis/Hoeth need to beat the value as well as getting doubles, this is pretty clear form the armybook as Foxbat pointed out. I've edited my original post now to include the entire table. I've been thinking a bit about how this can be applied in practice but I haven't reached any...

Re: 2000 points competative.
3 Dispel scrolls sounds a little too much to me, I'd rather go with seerstaff on the mage for spell selection. Apart from that, interesting choice to field 2 bunkers, although I think it'll be very hard to get far with. If you wanna go straight out beardy, I think one PG bunker with MSU DP backed up...

Re: Teclis/Book of Hoeth IF chance
Thanks, but this does not take into account that you actually have to beat a value as well, for example casting 2-3 dice on hard spells. Still a very nice sheet though, I'll be sure to save it :) This may not be quite that relevant but as you can see, in certain cases it can make a difference. It's ...

Teclis/Book of Hoeth IF chance
Well, although I probably should've been able to calculate this by means of simple math, I'm not - so I decided to write a program that would numerically calculate the chance of Teclis / an archmage with BoH casting with IF (running each cast a million times should yield pretty accurate results). ED...

Re: 2250 tourny
You know, I actually didn't even think about that. It does however remove spell redundancy, which I'm sort of thinking will be vital against other hard armies (certain key spells). A fighty noble could definitely be nice to bolster this list, too!

2250 tourny
So, I’m attending this tourny where the following rules apply: All special characters count as +1 hero choice, each army can have max. 1 special character. No duplicate rare choices are allowed, save for HE/DE who can both take 2 RBT’s (no duplicate eagles though). Max PD is 10, with bound counting ...

Re: Chracian Griffon
I'm tempted to take the Un-killable Prince but since its a Chracian army I'm not sure if I should take the Armor of Caledor. Opinions? Just take it and make your own fluff for it - "Lion armour" or something. Most people do when the GW fluff doesn't match their theme (eg a lot of people p...

Re: HE 2k Tourny
It looks pretty sensible. I'd be a little wary of only having one fast unit but with good magic and shooting that may not be such a problem. A 115pt Silver Helm unit might be an idea. Why 18 PG, are you planning on sitting the BSB in the unit? If you take 20 you get the choice of where he goes. Yea...

Re: HE 2k Tourny
So adding in the last ~800 points: 10 Archers - 110 18 PG, full command, Banner of Sorcery - 350 7 Swordmasters - 105 5 Dragon Princes - 150 ____ 715 This leaves a little room for adding a model here and there, or possibly a command upgrade for DP's with War Banner, or getting some nice little items...

HE 2k Tourny
Having discussed extensively in another thread in the tactics section the viability of HE as a competitive army, I've decided to try a combined arms approach. The core of the army will most likely be: Archmage - silver wand, ring of fury, dscroll, pstone - 350 Mage - seer, dscroll - 185 Noble, bsb, ...

Re: Tournament thoughts - High Elves
In that situation I tend towards Level 4 Seer/Ring, Level 2 something BSB Dragon Prince kit and Radiant Gem. This is actually quite interesting - Radiant Gem gives you only 1 less PD and doesn't lower your DD, additionally you add some fighting power- a noble on foot with but a GW can seriously put...

Re: Tournament thoughts - High Elves
Or just take both? I reckon you can afford it and still have an effective fighting force in 2k, don't you?SpellArcher wrote:You might be better off with a BSB than the Jewel mage.

Re: Tournament thoughts - High Elves
When going for archmage + 2 lvl 2's, what's the usual loadout? In my opinion getting both jewel and seerstaff is a must. Granted, on the archmage silver wand could more or less grant you seerstaff status (if you can live with a 16% chance of not getting a potentially gamebreaking spell - metal vs Wo...

Re: Tournament thoughts - High Elves
So basically you recommend something in the neighbourhood of archmage + 2lvl 2's, bsb, an anvil or 2 with lion std/std of balance with a decent amount of counterattack (swordmasters/dp's) and mixed rare choices? We would indeed have a unique list if this is a tournamentkiller - most other books have...

Re: Tournament thoughts - High Elves
It might be that it's not as efficient any longer, however I don't see how combined arms/magic can work (at all) either. Vampires should overwhelm you in the magic phase, and due to not having any extremely hard hitters can pick their fights fairly easily. Dark Elves with hotek-dragon will cause you...

Re: 10 Archers or a Repeating bolt thrower?
Sort of depends on the rest of your army, what you fear etc. If you already have your core filled out, I'd go for RBT's. If you don't, maybe consider Sea Guard. With their spears and ranks they can reform and a single unit can defend a battery of RBT's fairly well vs dark riders/harpies

Re: Chracian Griffon
Maximise your potential when charging and get some sort of decent defense: I'd say Star Lance, Armour of Caledor, Talisman of Loec is the best combo. If you really want to be defensive you can opt for AoC/VoD. Consider equipping him with a halberd (since a shield will be useless regardless) since it...

Re: Tournament thoughts - High Elves
Some interesting replies here! On the whole I agree with you. I'm thinking of things like auto-selected double Beast Cowers and such though. Which would hardly ever happen save from teclis + seermage lists. Granted, it will be hard, but I still have 2 units that can singlehandedly crush whatever uni...

Re: Tournament thoughts - High Elves
There's some question whether this can cope with some magic-heavy enemies. 2000pts though is probably not enough to take extra magic to support the Dragon. Is there anything better though? Well, looking at the top armies, DE, DoC, WoC, HE, VC I agree that indeed a lot is going to get through, howev...

Tournament thoughts - High Elves
Basically it seems to me that the top tournament lists at the moment revolve around psychology and magic denial. With the ld-bombs around now, your average elf suddenly becomes very frail, and such some sort of immunity is needed. Additionally, the lack of battle lines tend to see units such as PG b...

16-20PD @ 2k HE army - viable?
(The discussion here is intended for competitive play only) Basically having toyed around with various lists I think it's boiling down to 2 different approaches for me. One of them is the stardragon + deathstar DP list, the other is, as the topic says, centered around magic. Basically taking this: T...
