Re: Do lumineth models rank up on 25mm?
I think they should fit on 25mm bases. Their default base is 32mm round. You can fit a 22mm square base inside a 32mm round one edge to edge, which means that at 25mm, they will fit comfortable. How well they'll rank up, I'm not sure. It will depend on what bits are sticking out. My gut feeling is t...

Nice progress. I don't think the heavy drybrush will hinder you when painting. You should still get some nice contrast going.

Re: ULTHUAN GETS A MAKEOVER
Much appreciated! I hope the forum really gets going again, I'm not much a fan of using Facebook, and forums are great for making army blogs, bat reps etc. Agreed! I had another person say on Facebook - at least I think it was Facebook - that forums were outdated; does anyone agree, or is that just...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
The whole Rule of Three is completely rediculous in my opinion. Yes, you'll run into that one player who wants to bring 18 (or whatever) Gyrocopters. They are not the issue. A much bigger issue is that tooled up Prince on Stardragon with a 2+, 5++, 5++ save people can bring at 1500 pts. Yes, you can...

Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports
Reforming costs the entire movement, you will count as moved and lose a bunch of shots (half if you go 10 wide, 3/4 for 5 wide) in that turn, sadly no Volley Fire if you moved / reformed Not sure what you mean here. Can you elaborate? Also, you have no ranks as a skirmishing unit. As such, you also...

To add in the page reference: BBB p 319, the italic text at the bottom of the page: "Note that wizards in the same army may know the same spell"
It's the only place where it gives a definitive answer. The description in the magic chapter doesn't mention this and leaves it a bit ambiguous...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
Side note: how does the Arcane Familiar work on a L1? you roll one die for each and then pick either or revert to either signature? I think that item can be huge for factions with better lore choice, e.g. Empire. Maybe that's why we were "gifted" the 15 pts Silvery Wand, "silver lini...

Interesting list. How did you find the 5 SH unit? I'm still divided on them. I'm not sure going small units in TOW always makes the most sense.

Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports
I'm curious why you took the War Banner over the Battle Banner. A potential 1 or 2 extra static CR, for 35 pts more sounds like a good deal, especially if you're relying on breaking stuff. Yes, it's points which need to be found somewhere (maybe the stubborn on the sisters...), but it adds that extr...

Re: 1500 points first ToW High Elf army
I like the list. 1500 pts is always a bit an interesting points range. I would let my opponent know I was bringing a noble on monster at this points level, since dealing with a 2+, 5++ monster noble will be a challenge unless you know it's coming. As for Drain Magic, don't bother. It's a terrible sp...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
Do people think horn of isha can be used for magic spells? RAW seems it can, but pretty sure RAI it shouldn't. It really opens up deathstar builds, although passing a ld8 test is far from certain. Fiery convocation with +1 to wound could basically destroy a T3 infantry unit, and ruby ring becomes a...

Re: Skycutter Bolt Thrower Cannot Pierce Flanks
I think it's in an ok position tbh, better than it was in 8th for sure. It works as a cheapish mount for a prince, then I think you get that S5 AP-3 D3 Wound shot at BS7 which is no joke, but I'm not sure if that's correct. I'm not sure. Character rules mention that mounted on a chariot, the charac...

Re: Skycutter Bolt Thrower Cannot Pierce Flanks
I'm not so sure. Everyone seems excited about the Lion Chariot, but it isn't all that clear cut between the Skycutter and the WLC. The Lion chariot hits harder (though the Roc has AP2, which makes a difference), though the Skycutter has more reliable impact hits. On the other hand, the Skycutter is ...

Re: 2400pts HE vs Skaven
I enjoy writing them. It's a fun way to relive the battle a bit and wonder about all the right and wrong moves. Getting insight from others helps me improve. I think in TOW combat has gotten less bloody across the board, which means it makes sense that the reroll is gone. Even Itilmar Weapons reroll...

Re: Square Based: High Elves
I suspect WL will be more of a finesse unit than SM. With Open Order, and Move through Cover (I think it's called that), you can do some interesting stuff. Same with having your general in there and just challenging with Rank & File models. The main issue is that against monsters or tougher mode...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
Out of curiosity, how do you get a 2+, 5++, 5++ prince on dragon? The best I can find is Armour of Caledor, Charmed Shield, Seed of Rebirth, for a 3+, 5++, 5++ save. Dragon Helm, Talisman of Protection, Seed of Rebirth. Thanks. That makes sense. Maths is hard ;) The more I think about it, the more ...

Re: 2400pts HE vs Skaven
HE turn 4 The SH unit charges the Stormvermin, as does the Frostheart. Eltharion charges the Jezails. PG charge the furnace unit, since they don't want to take any impact hits. Dragon Mage moves to the rear of the furnace unit. Archers move off the hill to protect the PG flank and potentially join ...

Re: 2400pts HE vs Skaven
HE Turn 3 No Charges this turn. Frostheart and Dragon Prince fly over the Skaven line to their back line, to threaten the rear of most of the Skaven units. The rest of the army stays in place, waiting patiently. Magic and shooting doesn't do much. There are no combats. Skaven Turn 3 The plague cens...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
WL 60x1: Hitting on 4+ 60->30 Wounding on 4+ (S6 vs. T6) 30->15 Piercing Armour on 5+ (2+ & AP -3) 15->10 Regen 5+ 10->6.67 Ward 5+ 6.67->4.5 This really makes me question WL's role in the army. If they need 120 attacks to chew through a tough monster, then they're not much use against monsters...

Re: 2k Competitive Dragon List
Some of the item choices confuse me. You got a nonfunctional shield on the prince, and a nonfunctional dragon helm on the noble I'm not sure I understand. The shield on the Prince takes his save from a 4+ (from the Dragon) to a 3+ (even in combat due to Dragon Slaying Sword being one-handed, unlike...

Re: 2k Competitive Dragon List
I've been trialling LSG recently and i've found them to be quite impressive. They can shoot all day long and even let loose a volley before reforming for combat. With their 24", you'll often find the sitting in the middle of the board, which is perfect for my mage to sit and blast away with ma...

Re: Square Based: High Elves
It's a nice overview of what's in the army, but it didn't offer a lot of insights into the actual army. For me, it didn't go much beyond "impetuous bad", and "model has 1 attack, so weak in combat". I agree that it's interesting that he rates SM as the worst special infantry unit...

Re: 2k Competitive Dragon List
I'm not sure the LSG fit into the list or are worth it. Most of the list is fast or long ranged. The LSG are neither. They're nice and thematic, but I don't think they add much to the list. I would replace them either with archers, or with SH (or both). As they stand now, they'll be on their own, si...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
I actually think any I4 and up army can deal with the SM line. As Giladis mentioned, anything that flanks them with a whole bunch of attacks can deal them a lot of pain. However, the main weakness is that it's a 60'' wide unit. Yes, one on one 60 SM attacks can deal with anything in the game. Howeve...

Re: Fitzlock's High Elves - The Glittering Host of Avelorn
The incentives are very different between 8th and TOW for going wide. Horde was a gimmick, and it gave a relatively small extra number of attacks for a lot of points invested. With step-up and fighting in 2 ranks, the third rank didn't add all that much, relatively speaking. If you were up against 5...
