Re: What colour to paint spearelf shield 'bosses'

Now, I'm not too keen on these bosses - they're too bulky for my taste and IMO detract from the quality of the model (compare htem to the much finer detail on the IoB Seaguard, or any of the character's shields, or dragon princes - or even, at a pinch, the lancer shields). I know exactly what you m...

Re: The azure host

It looks amazing. If you have any tips to share I could sure use some... I think there's a tutorial online... (The less sweary version :P ) If I had to pick my least favourite it would be the puffins one. Mainly because it doesn't feel manly (for lack of a better word) enough for a combat unit. You...

Most of this thread is the ol' red X/ripped picture icons for me. And to be honest that last guy makes me especially sorry for what I'm missing! The painting's spectacular.

Re: Elf Heavy Archers of Ancient Times Released

As a sculpt it's very nicely done, very neat and everything. But as a gaming miniature... sorry, I think it's impractical. With the 20mm bases, size comparison, and announcement on T9A forum, I take it it's intended for use in WFB. But it's so big it's a head taller than even HE heroes, and can't ra...

Re: Swordmaster's Army Pictures - Drakon Riders

Really nice work. :D You've made all the different parts fit like a glove. I can also appreciate the work put into sculpting all that scale armour. ;) And brilliant painting. I can sympathise with the base problem too. I've done a bit of hmming and haaing over base sizes for different games - includ...

Re: Tufts!

I haven't used too many grass tufts myself, but I'd say look around for Silflor tufts. AFAIK it's the railway scenery brand that started the craze, before GW and Army Painter jumped on it. Make a (or cheat and buy one) static grass applicator, and make your own. I got one of these about a year ago. ...

Re: What to play with WHFB models, instead of WHFB?

*I believe there is a (perhaps unofficial) fantasy supplement for Lion Rampant as well. The official fantasy accompaniment to Lion Rampant - Dragon Rampant - has been out for a while. :) I've talked about it already - larger skirmish size; generic units that might put off a WFB player but also allo...

Re: Elves Rampant - Avelorn and Chrace skirmish log

Get some of the metal unarmored archers from 5th edition. They are fantastic. +1 on the metal unarmoured archers. They are amazing models (if you can find them). Aye, there's the rub! I've looked long and hard at the 5th ed metals, and for them. (I like Gary Morley's versions better than Jes Goodwi...

Elves Rampant - Avelorn and Chrace skirmish log

First, the talky bit. Hello all! I'm new here on Ulthuan.net, although I've followed Warhammer for years, since sometime during 6th ed. I started off with lizardmen, skaven, and ogre kingdoms (I have a thing for monsters) but after a while I decided WFB wasn't the game for me - especially after intr...

Re: Alternative heads for Sisters of Avelorn

I hope no-one minds me bumping this topic, but... Hello Lithlandis! I've been looking at headswaps for elves myself, lately. I think dark elf heads would fit well. Perhaps also heads from wood elf eternal guard, if you trimmed that huge crest down. Something I was pleasantly surprised by are the her...

This is the page: http://www.ulthuan.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=35465&start=180 Anyone interested in seeing work as superb as Ptolemy's should check it out. That's a spectacular army. I've got plans for a small Avelorn force myself (AoS? What's that?) and that gave me a few more ideas an...
