Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
WL 60x1: Hitting on 4+ 60->30 Wounding on 4+ (S6 vs. T6) 30->15 Piercing Armour on 5+ (2+ & AP -3) 15->10 Regen 5+ 10->6.67 Ward 5+ 6.67->4.5 This really makes me question WL's role in the army. If they need 120 attacks to chew through a tough monster, then they're not much use against monsters...

Re: 2k Competitive Dragon List
Some of the item choices confuse me. You got a nonfunctional shield on the prince, and a nonfunctional dragon helm on the noble I'm not sure I understand. The shield on the Prince takes his save from a 4+ (from the Dragon) to a 3+ (even in combat due to Dragon Slaying Sword being one-handed, unlike...

Re: 2k Competitive Dragon List
I've been trialling LSG recently and i've found them to be quite impressive. They can shoot all day long and even let loose a volley before reforming for combat. With their 24", you'll often find the sitting in the middle of the board, which is perfect for my mage to sit and blast away with ma...

Re: Square Based: High Elves
It's a nice overview of what's in the army, but it didn't offer a lot of insights into the actual army. For me, it didn't go much beyond "impetuous bad", and "model has 1 attack, so weak in combat". I agree that it's interesting that he rates SM as the worst special infantry unit...

Re: 2k Competitive Dragon List
I'm not sure the LSG fit into the list or are worth it. Most of the list is fast or long ranged. The LSG are neither. They're nice and thematic, but I don't think they add much to the list. I would replace them either with archers, or with SH (or both). As they stand now, they'll be on their own, si...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
Somehow I find it shocking that 60 SM attacks only do 2 wounds to a rolled up dragon prince. I really need to add some anti monster options to my lists if my opponent goes for bigger characters...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
I actually think any I4 and up army can deal with the SM line. As Giladis mentioned, anything that flanks them with a whole bunch of attacks can deal them a lot of pain. However, the main weakness is that it's a 60'' wide unit. Yes, one on one 60 SM attacks can deal with anything in the game. Howeve...

Re: Fitzlock's High Elves - The Glittering Host of Avelorn
The incentives are very different between 8th and TOW for going wide. Horde was a gimmick, and it gave a relatively small extra number of attacks for a lot of points invested. With step-up and fighting in 2 ranks, the third rank didn't add all that much, relatively speaking. If you were up against 5...

Re: Detachment Talk: Spears + Archers
ouch, no idea where i dreamt up Ithilmar weapons for archers. Thanks for the corrections. No worries. It happens, there's a lot of rules to get the hang of. I had my first TOW game yesterday, and we spend half the time flipping through 3 different books to find all the rules and how they interacted...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
Question: Do regeneration saves stack? Ward saves specifically mention they don't. Regen saves don't actually say anything in that regard. And the general rule is that special rules stack. RAW, no unless something says +1 Regeneration, since there's no explanation for how a 5+ and a 6+ interact wit...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
When you randomly generate a spell, you can discard one spell. Normally wizards can only generate spells once, but our mage can generate spells once per turn. So can he each time he generates a spell substitute to the signature and/or Saphery, even if we already have a signature? RAW looks to clear...

Re: Cavalry Prince
With regard to the Dragon Helm, the rule for it says it can be worn with other armour. Do you think that excludes magical armour? Yes. The Can be worn with other armour means that you can take Light Armour or Heavy Armour or Full plate with it, unlike the armour of Caledor for instance, which is fu...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
Crystal aside, if you roll for more than 1 spell, and you roll an assailment, can't you swap another spell for hand of khaine, and then have 2 assailments? Yes you can. There's nothing in the rules that says that you can only have 1 of each type of spells. You can swap any spell for Hand of Khaine ...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
But you can still cast an assailment in both yours and their combat phases in the same game turn (not individual turn) right? So effectively cast twice per game turn? Yes. Though it's good to know that quickly flipping through the lores, there aren't any lores with 2 assailment spells (and you can'...

Re: Detachment Talk: Spears + Archers
Archers don't reroll 1s, since they don't have Ithilmar weapons. 10 archers vs 5 SH with shields (which don't differ all that much in points). With your S&S, you do 0.8-ish wounds. Let's say you get lucky and kill 1. 4 SH attacks, 2 hits, 2 wounds (1.7, but we're rounding up). 4 horses, 2 hits, ...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
Ok, but say you roll for another spell, would you be able to cast it in the same turn? In the same phase? Just trying to gauge how people are playing this and what utility it has. The only limitation on casting spells (other than when in the turn you can cast them), is that you can only cast a spel...

Prince [252 pts] - Great weapon - Light armour - Barded Elven Steed - dragonhelm - Dawnstone - Armour of Caledor - Seed of Rebirth - Pure of Heart I think this item selection isn't legal. Armour of Caledor and Dragonhelm are both magical armour, and neither of them is common, so you can only take o...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
Some very interesting testing here but this is the one that has me asking the most questions. How did you play this item? Did you cast a spell, "forget it", roll for another spell, then proceed to cast that new spell? If you "forget" a spell, is it likley to be for the entire ga...

Yeah, they're great for campaigns and similar fluffy games. I also think that's what they were intended for. A tool to give people a chance to bring some fun stuff and introduce a bit of narrative to their games. Which is also how they should be used in my opinion. Like I said, I doubt they'll be se...

Re: 2k Combined arms list
I like the list. I think it offers a fair bit of flexibility, and I'm curious to see how it performs. I'm also interested in the archmage with Warden of Saphery. Even without any armour on him, I think 10 pts for 2 WS4 Killing Blow attacks is pretty nice. With armour and a few combat oriented spells...

Re: Allies
I think we'll see allies as much in TOW as we did in 8th edition (where you had more or less the same rules). As in, not for competitive games, but it's a way to include some fluff models in a friendly game. Especially if you want to spice things up a bit or use a small force you're building out as ...

Re: The Lion Chariot Doesn’t have Swiftstride!
Now is probably the wrong time to be buying on ebay (or the right time to be selling...). No supply of new miniatures, and lots of demand after the release of TOW. I'm guessing most of the HE plastic range will be re-released. Which means that we'll be able to get the chariots from GW again. Going b...

Re: Detachment Talk: Spears + Archers
I think this assumes that your opponent does exactly what you want him to do. Yes, in an ideal situation, you get 20 shots in a stand & shoot, or an extra charge from a bunch of archers. But it's also 25''+ wide, which is 1/3 of your whole deployment zone. Where you have to be careful not to pla...

Re: 2000 High Elf Lists
That first list looks very nasty, but I would lose the sisters for some support units (maybe another eagle + a tiranoc chariot?), such a small army will need plenty of redirectors. As a rule of thumb I think you need a minimum of 3 redirectors in high elf lists of 2k+. I'm new to WHFB- Got into it ...

Re: 2k initial list
It looks like a fun list. One thing I'm wondering is why you're running both the SH and the Tiranoc chariots as separate, smaller units. If you combine them into larger units, they pack a bigger punch (at the expense of flexibility of course).

Re: The Lion Chariot Doesn’t have Swiftstride!
The title of this thread is the reason I've come to believe the White Lion Chariot is all washed up now -Its impact hits are 0.5 less average hits but have a more reliable spread, which I like, and they're still AP -2, unlike the Tiranoc Chariot's. -It's 35 pts cheaper than the WLC so you're justif...

Re: 3D printing Model List
+1 for the Blue Stuff molds. I've used something similar in the past, and it's great if you need a quick copy of a bit. It's not perfect, and you need to look at what you use to create the actual bit. If you're going with greenstuff, then it can become very expensive very fast. Milliput is cheaper a...
