Re: Detachment Talk: Spears + Archers

I'm relatively sure that the wounds from a Stand and Shoot, while they count for combat resolution, don't do anything to reduce the models that make it into combat. That said I do love that detachmemts are a general rule now and more armies have access to them. Our militia troops are a good pairing ...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World

I believe with the current mindset you're fine, all the targetting is already done and everything is thematically all going at the same time. I don't have the rulebook yet but I'm assuming none of the move charging models rules say anythimg aboutstill having to see the unit to wheel and charge. A co...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World

I believe the intention of the supporting attacks Nighthawk is the models in the fighting rank outside of those in base contact push forward to surround the enemy. A kind of pseudo wrap around if you will, without all the mess of physically moving your models.

Re: White lions

White lions are one of the rare things that get AP - 3 as a unit. Obviously they're in a rough spot if they get charged swinging at I2, but on a normal charge they can get back up to I5 which is very impressive with great weapon equivalent weapons. Having stubborn, open order and move through cover ...

Only 1 unit of Ellyrian Reavers per 1000 points can be skirmishers so you've go a small issue there. The silver helms might appreciate a few more models and command. They're going to have to do a lot of work for you after all. Was there something in particular in elementalism you looking to to cast ...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World

There are a number of unit based restrictions out there requiring a character to be your general or a mage or have a specific honour to join certain units. There are rules for characters joining units of chariots. There are rules for where a character joining a unit can go depending on its base size...

Where did you deploy it just out of curiosity? Was it on a flank or more centrally located either or both times?

Re: The Lion Chariot Doesn’t have Swiftstride!

Oh yes, it's still pleanty fast. More than enough for supporting our on infantry units.

14" charge range is nothing to be ashamed of!

I could see it taking some practice to use effectively though. Splitstriker, is it just that it's lumbering and a bit slow that caused issues for you?

I haven't looks too heavily into the skycutter. I'm more interesting in having a unit of light chariots to test that out at the start.

It's a lot of how they don't have the infrastructure to handle it or the experience to deal with it. Car accidents, broken water pipes, lack of enough protective clothing and heaters and other stuff I'm sure.

Edit: Got my shipping notice this morning. Claims the end of the month. Woo!

Yes, a character beng put on a chariot does not displace a crew member. GW suggests its fine to not model both crew and that extra attacks from crew are just the character having a more elite crew helping them or some other fluffy reason.

Ahhh, if there's a models must always use magic weapons over everything if so equipped rule, yeah I'll ditch the burning blade to just hold a lance for the silver helm champion. Swordmasters are mostly to have something to bring in after the calvary goes in and to see how they work now. I own.. Quit...

I've always been a bit of a fatalist when it comes to elven heroes. Keep then lean and just accept they're as vulnerable as they are is how I try to view them. Obviously a loremaster is going to be out classed versus a lot, but those are likely to also be cases where you've been outspent too when it...

Yes, I didn't mean to imply that it wasn't still a Star Dragon. I just don't consider it something I'd consider worth the points with how tight things are at 2k. I'd rather have another hundred+ troops on the ground.

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World

I like your idea and without a rulebook I can't confirm. I vaguely recall something about the marching blocks still being able to declare a charge but not being able to move? I don't know how that would work though. I was just planning to turn them to the side and have them loop around. Probably in ...

Re: Are Griffons Playable Now? (Old returning player)

Yeah, Griffons should be super playable now if you're looking to have someone spread terror around the board to support your other troops. All the benefits of being a character on a large target monster and a lot of the staying power of mounted characters is on the high elf lord now over the mount. ...

There is always an appeal to have a melee character with some magical prowess to speak of. We've got a few options in the army for these kinds of characters, and while not the optimal thing to bring for matial prowess or arcane might they still seem like fun. They're quite often on foot or have some...

But yeah, it's a much larger investment to serve a different purpose I would say looking at a prince on a lion chariot versus a noble on a tiranoc.

I'm thinking the chariots will run with the noble as a unit of three, which I like better over spending more points to have a lion chariot on its own. It's like 110 more points and I don't know if they could join another chariot since they're single models? At the moment the idea is to support the f...

Our wizards don't have Ithilmar Armour because, minus a few exceptions, wizards can't wear armor at all. :)

I would also advocate syphoning some of those character points into more soliders but it might be interesting to see how it goes.
