Re: Prince of Death
@2500 points, I run my guy w/ a level 4 Archmage equipped w/ Robe, Talisman and Silver Wand. I was taking Shadow but I found that the high CV's were disrupting my ability to force my opponents DD, even with the BoS. Last game I tried Life out and it worked great. My opponent was forced every Magic P...

HE Prince Model - What to use?
I run a Prince on foot w/ Armor of Caledor, Great Weapon, Radiant Gem of Hoeth and Guardian Phoenix. Not an uncommon combination, I think. However, all the HE Noble figures I see from Games Workshop see to come with a shield. I'm looking for suggestions on a model to use for the build I listed above...

Re: Prince of Death
I tried a mounted RGoH (Death) Prince, but found that I had trouble figuring out where to put him. W/ Ld 10, the Sig spell can be really nice, but that basically also means he is your General. Sticking him in with a unit of DP's can be fun but then you will generally be running him out away from you...

Re: How do you run White Lions?
I run my White Lions 7x3 to get maximum attacks since I almost always run up against armies with wide units 21 is my standard setup as well, though I regularly run them a full 10-wide to minimize the effectiveness of enemy template weapons and to make sure I'm always fielding the maximum number of ...

Re: beating 3 unit armies
Magic, as has been mentioned, is going to be our tool against big blocks like this. There are one or more spells in most Lores available to us that can swing things our way. Beyond the obvious spells, that include templates (Purple Sun, Pit of Shades, even Flame Storm) and target the entire unit (Fl...

I understand your interpretation and theres no misperception on my behalf,as the Skaven FAQ specifically asks about Tripple your MOVEMENT ALLOWANCE . Thats perfectly clear as is the part you quoted Worloch, stating that Birona's timewarp doubles Movement allowance. Also if the banner of infinite scu...

Yeah, SiN adds the units current Rank Bonus to their Ld. Anything that would remove rank bonuses, such as disruption, removes the benefit of SiN as well.

Seems fairly tailored against you to me ... and turn about is fair play, right? Take Archers for your Core, and try throwing an RBT in. Fire a single Bolt at his Organ Gun each turn. You have a decent shot of hitting, wounding and with d3 wounds and no armor save, you may just take it out in one go....

The Faq specifically says that "if a SPECIAL RULE is giving in the WFRB, and in an AB, to use the AB's amended rules"... it does not say that an AB takes precedence over ALL rules, just the special rules that are also in the WFRB... Dude - Page 81 of the BRB: On rare occasions, a conflict...

Re: Skinks?
As per the last Skaven FAQ their movement allowance can be trippled to 15 inches thus it is possible to increase characteristics beyond a maximum of 10 allowing horses and flyers, chariots etc to double theirs. Q. When activating the Banner of Verminous Scurrying it says you triple your move. Does t...

Re: Skinks?
Birona's timewarp 16inch movement up to 28 inch charge Don't think that works. Characteristics are limited to 10 unless otherwise stated. Movement Allowance is a characteristic, and Birona's has been FAQ'ed to state Movement Allowance, and has no exemption from the limited to 10 clause. As to the S...

Re: Spirit Leach question
When reading the FAQ literally, you get the answer Stormie is advocating: What is your unmodified leadership? Your unmodified leadership is the highest Leadership available in the unit. That would be cut and dry ... but that isn't the extent of it, is it? The first sentence for question gives contex...

Re: How do we manage Hellcannons?
But unmodified leadership is the highest leadership in the unit with no other modifiers. So this would mean that the mount would use the Ld of the character since it is typically higher. Thus monsters would use the Ld of their handlers correct? In a technical sense, yes, I believe that is what the ...

Re: How do we manage Hellcannons?
Please explain to me the difference between a Leadership test and a Characteristic test using the Leadership of a model. Meaning, The Hellcannon is Ld 4 and it can be forced to use its unmodified Ld value using the Spirit Leech spell. Is that accurate or since it is based on the models leadership w...

Re: Magic Revamp for Army Books
Hmm, never really caught that line at the end of the Targeting Restrictions section. Makes a certain amount of sense, I suppose, so that the new rules didn't particularly break old spells, but that's what errata is for, right? Just another reason why the Lores from the Army Books need to be brought ...

Good idea, though it's very slightly more expensive (8 points), but as you say, at least you get a "always on" ward save as opposed to a conditional ward save.

I am trying out a Prince w/ RGoH on foot, and to make the points work out, I am giving him GW, Armor of Caledor, Guardian Phoenix and Radiant Gem of Hoeth. Re: Magic Revamp for Army Books
I am hoping Drain is *not* the signature. I like signature spells that are almost always useful. Drain is not useful in some circumstances - namely when your opponent is not reliant on Magic, such as Dwarves, and some Empire or LM lists and in any situation where it is more important to get your own...

Re: Magic Revamp for Army Books
I've thought about this a lot and would like to see High Magic made a more attractive choice for High Elves. Right now, it is still good but not as nice as some of the Lores from the BRB. I'd like to see it right up there with Life and Shadow. I'm hoping they bring the army specific Lores in to alig...

Re: Does shield of saphery add up???
Glittering Robe has some pro and cons as compared with Shield of Saphery. Since Scaly Skin stacks w/ worn armor, it is effectively +2 to your AS unless you already had Scaly Skin for some reason (LM, for instance). Ward saves, as has been pointed out, don't stack. So, oftentimes Glittering Robe can ...

Re: Book of Hoeth question
As most people here have clarified, the errata should have stated "contains" not "is a". A literal interpretation of that sentence simply makes no sense. A casting roll can not be "a double". Even if you only roll 2 dice, and they come up the same number, the roll is no...

Re: Though nut to crack, goblins.
Target the General and BSB if you can, and kill them as early as possible. Night Goblins are only Ld 5, so even with Steadfast, if you can make sure they aren't getting bonus Ld and a re-roll, they will eventually fail and run. Is he running them 10x10? I know you said "without magic" orig...

Re: is this how frenzy works?
Note that the wording is viable and not visible. If there was an enemy unit behind a building, completely out of los, but your flying frenzied unit could declare a charge on it - you would still have to test not to declare a charge and it is still a viable target for that charge. :^o [-X Um..... ev...

Well, since you know your army list is pretty consistent and you know his list, why don't you give us more specific details so we can provide better analysis and ideas? Re: is this how frenzy works?
Think of it like a flow chart. It is hard to draw out here, but easy to draw out on paper. Just ask each question in turn, and follow the yes/no answers. Is the Unit subject to Frenzy? Is there an enemy unit the Frenzied unit could charge? Does the Frenzied unit wish to restrain from declaring a Cha...

I would want him on foot so I could stick him in a unit with the same footprint and unit type, so he could take advantage of the Look Out Sir! rule. I also want him on foot so he stays with the mainly infantry bulk of my army providing his Leadership to them. For those same reasons, I want to keep m...

Prince w/ RGoH on foot - what kit to take?
I want to try out a Prince with the RGoH, as I think it could work well and I have an outfit for a mounted Prince I think works well - Prince on Barded Elven Steed w/ Dragon Armor, Great Weapon, RGoH and Vambraces of Defense. This results in a 3+ re-rollable Armor Save and a 4+ Ward Save, in additio...

Flank charge it with a unit of knights. Watch it stay out of the battle until turn 6 and the rest of your army is dead. (this is more effective against PG due to them hitting much less hard than our other two elite infantry). Usually I am in agreement but I don't think this would work here, because...

@dabber ...the one problem i have with your statement is... as you well know, you HAVE to spend 25% on your core. In a 2000-2500 pt game, thats 500-625 pts of what.... just waste? And if you are not going to take a load of archers [which i think are pretty shockingly bad] then Spearmen/Lothern Sea ...

I generally like 8th Edition. It is put together reasonably well, and I prefer to have the randomness in the Charge Ranges and Magic phase - it adds spice to the game. Of course, I do think it could have been better, and a few tweaks here and there would maybe help. Changing IF and Miscast to occur ...
