Re: Favourite BSB builds?
Cool. I'm tempted to go chracian hunter, white lion chariot. Gets the axe for free which saves points for protective kit. first charge, close order, impact hits and all the other goodies seem fun That's been my favourite so far. Stick Talisman of Protection and Regen on him and he's a tough nut to ...

...needing to potentially change skirmish rules... This is not the first time I have seen mention of skirmish issues. Can someone clarify what the issue is with skirmishers? I may have missed the discussion. Few topics come to mind, but @Ielthan should reply, what in particular he is referring to. ...

Re: NOVA Open Comp Pack released
This comp is putting the cart before the horse in a big way. This guy is assuming a lot of things based off of feeling, and not actual data. I get that he's a power gamer and has stated as such in the Mountain Miniatures interview, but he in no way has any real information to comp things like this ...

Re: NOVA Open Comp Pack released
I was curious if they were actually still tethering it to bookface. XD They've got some kind of idea. Some of it seems odd. The character limit on a unit seems weird since there's already rules that kind of make mass hero spam in one unit not work very well. The detachments thing I think are kind o...

Great to see you back and gaming again. When I first read the BBB I did wonder if MSU will be better in this edition than it was in 8th, and did think of you and your dedication to it! Will be fascinating to see how you go with it.

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
It's a gw game, it's never gonna be tournament tight. So long as it holds up as a gentleman's game I'm fine with that. A solid faq done regularly with points tweaks for egregiously imbalances things is what I'd settle for I think 8th ed did hold up enough for tournaments. My issue is the whole &quo...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXzsdhZaOuw An interesting discussion on some of the issues that we've been talking about here. I'm inclined to agree that while I like the ruleset, it's really lacking in "tightness". Sort of feels like a second edition after a few years in the tournament g...

Re: Speculating/Wish listing on the High Elf Arcane Journal
Here’s something that came to me today while listening to a review of the Orcs & Goblins book - quelling Impetuosity. If Orcs can do it, surely Elves can also? Makes me wonder if there is going to be a character (maybe Imrik?) who can quell Impetuosity within a certain range (12”?). It would ma...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
There is a chaf unit i figured out, 5 spearmen in marching colmun, the dart, 15 inch move! What is the deal with chariout runners how do we use them? Also is there a trick with the horn of isha im missing, LD8 with no reroll for an excelent buff, that u wont get every 2nd or third game? The spearme...

Drilled, Marching Columns and Optimal Unit Size
I've been putting some thought into what are the optimal unit sizes for the Old World, particularly to make best use of the drilled rule; the ability to deploy in march column, rapidly move into position and then the next turn redress in to a wide line and charge. It has the potential to be extremel...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
How are people finding our chaff? The role of it seems a lot more aggressive and not very good at being evasive. No feigned flight on reavers is making me consider musicians on them, rallying on an 8 is a bit iffy. The other issue is it means they don't auto rally immediately, so a wizard using reav...

Re: No room on the table
I have noticed from the games I observed that over time people have pushed terrain to the sides with most tables starting to resemble WD promo shots. Think it's partly laziness tbh, more terrain usually means a more tactically challenging game, and also more difficulties with rules. Easier just to ...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
I sort of agree with Morgen. While there are certainly scenarios where such an action would be fitting it being a "go to tactic" to me is imersion breaking and would not look favourable on such actions even if I acknowledge them as legitimate. I mean, sure, I also agree somewhat. I think ...

Re: Vaul's Unmaking - The High Elf Secret Weapon?
You're assuming you can get to within 12" of that lord whilst remaining in a safe position. Also pinning that dragon lord is a lot easier said than done, even with very defensive builds they still put out a ton of damage. Your best chance of pinning them is probably using courage of aenarion wh...

Re: Vaul's Unmaking - The High Elf Secret Weapon?
With it's short range and the extreme mobility of dragon lords etc. you've probably got one shot to get the spell of before he hits combat. So maybe you get rid of their 5+ regen. Problem is they're still a T6 9 wound 2+ armour save 5+ ward beast. It can help a bit, but not very reliably, probably n...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
I would like to say that the idea that you cast a spell and then run your mage away to prevent dispel attempts is both cowardly and very unsporting. Remember this isn't 40k or Magic the Gathering. You should be enjoying a game with others, even in a tournament environment, and not be trying to win ...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
Might I also propose the "external Magic Item" for Unbreakable on the Dragon Prince: - Mage L2, Elven Steed, High Magic (revert to Courage of Aenarion) 8+ with re-roll should work most of the times. or - Mage L1, Elven Steed, HM (CoA) Power Scroll. I hope someone can math-hammer the diffe...

It's notoriously fragile as a model, I haven't assembled mine so not sure if there's a solution to that beyond using brass rod etc. It can be transported safely in a KR case but you'll have to carve out the foam yourself. In terms of rules I think it's interesting, for 15pts more than a tiranoc char...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World

Re: Speculating/Wish listing on the High Elf Arcane Journal
There used to be several magical institutioms in the Old World before Teclis established the Collegues. There was the wizards guild in Marienburg, magic school in Middenheim, wizards attached to the church of Taal in Talabheim, that is at least what I remember of the top of my head. so like I said;...

Re: Speculating/Wish listing on the High Elf Arcane Journal
I concern regarding Teclis is that he might not feature since he has a model in AoS (a rather derpy looking one but still current). Lol I'd actually forgotten about that model, it's so bad I just never really registered it. I think the real Teclis is far enough from that (probably no mount) that he...

Re: Speculating/Wish listing on the High Elf Arcane Journal
If it's 1 old 2 new, I'm guessing Teclis, Finubar & Aislinn. Mage, Melee fighter (maybe on skycutter, iirc there was some very old fluff of him on a chariot drawn by great eagles), ranged fighter. Sadly I don't think Tyrion will feature because there isn't really a reason for him to be in the Ol...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
What happened with your phoenix guard I find kind of concerning tbh. Combat now seems incredibly grindy, because of how break tests work it's near impossible to make a decisive blow in 6 turns, unless you can somehow reduce enemy leadership significantly, or maybe just use some deathstar type unit ...
