Lothern Seaguard
I read somewhere that the seaguard is a proffessional force of full time soldiers. Yet I also read that Lothern provides seaguard instead of citizen militia. So is the rest of Lothern's population exempt from military service?

Finubar obviously! Not only is he a capable leader and a statesman second to none, he seems the only elf with the far-sightedness and humility to befriend the 'lesser' races to whom the world will soon belong.

Not likely...
Humans are way too corruptable/greedy to be a decent force to help on Ulthuan. I toyed with the idea of a unit barracked in Lothern and used to back up the seaguard, though they'd probably be too tempted by the Elven riches or the power of Ulthuan herself. And don't even get me started on the Caledo...

Just take off the bows and you'll be fine. Even if they are very strict about WYSIWYG they can't complain. The models simply have a seafaring theme, not uncommon as Ulthuan is an island and her colonies are, without exception, close to the ocean.

Re: Civil war???
I hope this isn't canon. Tyrion is virtually assured the Phoenix throne upon Finubar's death. Besides Imrik would put the Caledorian lord in his place, just as Teclis would probably take the naive young mage under his wing. Doesn't seem very thought out.

(aiming for slits in visors etc) So on this basis who reckons when our new 8th edition book comes out all elves should have killing blow on their arrow weapons? Of course it would be impractical in game terms, though in the fluff I imagine they would be pretty good. A load of the awesome stuff we s...

Re: Elves and Gunpowder
Since school has ended, I'm bored so here's my top 5 (in no apparent order) reasons why the Asur don't use blackpowder: 1. Pride (or arrogance if you're Caledorian): After using the same weapons for thousands of years, with many passed down the generations, an elf isn't going to admit they were wron...

For me it's Archmage>Eltharion on griffon> prince on griffon> Eltharion on foot.
He's fun to play, although fairly unprotected. However, if you do choose to use him the mage and BSB setup is essential.

Re: Elven Language
In the army books there are runes that can give you a basic understanding, however it's implied the language is far too subtle and has far too many nuances to be learned comprehensively by a human. I imagine it would be full of obscure idioms relating to the elves culture.

Re: Anyone try no archmage at 2000p?
Oh I've tried it plenty of times, Archmage is optimal yet good results can be yeilded from using Teclis or a cavalry Prince. Of course, this depends upon the composition of your army and the nature of your opponent.

Re: How powerful is the Everqueen - magically?
I remember in The Defenders of Ulthuan she was the only one, aside from Teclis, that could heal Daroir of his affliction. IIRC, the fifth edition army book had her as a special character and she could only 'freeze' models, never kill them. She could also banish Daemons with a touch, though not destr...

I'd go with the more killy build. He should be able to shrug off most attacks and what he can't you can heal with the life archmage.

I like the WEs for looks but Bretonnia is pretty appealing. I've never been a big fan of demons, though I once made a heavily converted Slaanesh mortals army from elfy and chaos bits.

Whatever you pick, take eagles to hunt war machines and a life mage to buff your troops. In combat you'd be practically unstoppable, though shooting and magic concern me.

Re: Ulthuan Culture - Class
This is my over simplified take on things: Before the first war against daemons Ulthuan was a theocracy, ruled by the Everqueen. As Aenarion comes to power, we see a warrior aristocracy evolving, along with a virtual dictatorship in the form of the Phoenix kings. In the present era I imagine the Eve...

Re: Noble or Mage
My first question is if this will be your only hero choice or do you have a BSB as well? If you don't have a BSB, I suggest you take that instead and equip him to kill. If this is in addition to the BSB, I'd say the metal mage is a good choice. Metal is a great support lore and will find uses again...
