Re: Thoughts on Dragon Princes

Grail Knights are T4? I'd missed that. Thanks for pointing it out. I already found the S4 unfair to elves. T4 is just an insult to elves everywhere. I had simply assumed "human model, so T3 default". Ah but they are Living Saints after all  Agree though, T3 across the board (while n...

Re: Thoughts on Dragon Princes

I’m afraid the maths is not in our favour. Dragon Princes are roughly equivalent to Grail Knights or Chosen Knights in cost and both of those pack more of a punch and can withstand more damage than Dragon Princes, especially in subsequent rounds of combat, when DP’s strike at the same time as them....

Re: Thoughts on Dragon Princes

Has anyone tried the Dragon Princes against other heavy cavalry? With I5, Elven Reflexes and Counter-Charge they have a good chance of striking before most other equivalent units even if charged (the exceptions being Cold One Knights and Chaos Knights of Slaanesh, I believe), and with two attacks S...

Re: Various Character builds?

I'm not sure you'll get the chance to use your Sword of Hoeth, as you have a magical weapon. It is not clear if Sword of Hoeth is meant to be a magical weapon but it's not listed as one and as you have a magic weapon equipped, you have to use that one sadly. That's a good point, I was looking only ...

Re: Various Character builds?

I am looking to try out an infantry build here soon for a "Slayer" type Noble. 138 points: Noble, Warden of Saphery, Dragon Slaying Sword, Sword of Hoeth, Full Plate Armor, Shield. He has Killing Blow and Monster Slayer, so with 3 attacks, he is just fishing for 6s to Wound. Then he also ...

So looks like Drilled has been resolved in today's FAQ update to what most sensible folk have interpreted it as. Being able to Reform Ranks while Giving Ground is interesting though, that's quite a bonus.

Re: Tournament 1999pt

I mostly like everything about it apart from your Special section. I don’t really get it. Trance chariots I struggle to get behind. You’re hoping to come up against light units in order to get the most out of them. Lion chariots would do you better or even Skycutters. Some AP is much needed. The Swo...

Double Trouble - Double Flier Aggro List

Ok, i've been tinkering with lists without a BSB, to try and see if I can make a list with an aggresive lean, that gives my Star Dragon Prince some company in the field. Here is what i've come up with: ++ Characters [975 pts] ++ Prince [535 pts] (Hand weapon, Light armour, General, Star Dragon, Ogre...

Re: 1500 points vs. Black Orc on Wyvern and Arachnorok spider

I would recommend Cav units with Counter Charge, so Silver Helms and Dragon Princes. Coupled with some decent static res - War Banner, Battle banner, and some tanky Combat Characters. That should give you a decent enough start on what to build around. Also, High Magic is very good against O&G as...

Re: 2000 “realistic” and as strong as possible

You have three anvil-like units (PG, 2x Spears) but no real hammer unit. Our Core is middling at best, so I wouldn't recommend spending much more than the bare minimum on it unless you are going with a theme. You need to work out what is going to get you points and what is going to create problems f...

Cool. I'm tempted to go chracian hunter, white lion chariot. Gets the axe for free which saves points for protective kit. first charge, close order, impact hits and all the other goodies seem fun That's been my favourite so far. Stick Talisman of Protection and Regen on him and he's a tough nut to ...

Re: Steeds of Ulthuan - A Mounted 2k Army List

I’ve played with Blood Of Caledor for a good few games now and I think the Impetuosity can be quite easily overcome. It’s really only a factor in the first turn, as I would expect the dragon to be in combat for the rest of the game, so it’s not really an issue. The edge it gives you over other typic...

Steeds of Ulthuan - A Mounted 2k Army List

Ok, so being unimpressed by our options for shooting outside of Sisters and magic missiles, I have decided to try out something different for a change. Here is a quick and aggressive army list that is able to take on multiple dragons/big monsters at a time. High Elf Realms 2,000 High Elf Prince 535 ...

Re: Drilled, Marching Columns and Optimal Unit Size

The more I read how the Drilled rule is worded and how charge moves work, the more I am convinced that the intention is that you can redress the ranks and then charge. The part that has me convinced is in BBB pg. 126, Manoeuvring During a Charge "Unless stated otherwise, a charging unit cannot ...

Triple Dragon List (just because)

Was playing around with lists to see just how many dragons we could fit into a 2k list and settled on this list. Note, it's not tuned to be competitive, just a bit of theorycrafting fun. I KNOW it has glaring weaknesses but man wouldn't it be fun to play?! ++ Characters [996 pts] ++ Archmage [...

Re: 2000 New-Age EAF

I've played one game with the flamebird and i've found it tricky to use. LD7 is a pain, for both marchblocking and panic tests. You want to ideally fly over a unit and clear it, turn round and threaten to charge something small or combo charge into the rear. With such a big base and the way movement...

Re: First Old World Game - Initial Thoughts

So I played a full 2k game last night against Lizards and some of my experiences were similar. I'll share my thoughts so far in a similar vein: 1. Shooting does feel weaker, much so. I had two RBTs and they were incredibly unimpressive and easy kill points for my opponent. I did have some success wi...

Re: Speculating/Wish listing on the High Elf Arcane Journal

Here’s something that came to me today while listening to a review of the Orcs & Goblins book - quelling Impetuosity. If Orcs can do it, surely Elves can also? Makes me wonder if there is going to be a character (maybe Imrik?) who can quell Impetuosity within a certain range (12”?). It would ma...

Thx again. Rror on sisters it is. About the 2 small units of sisters, i just think they are strong and cheep and moveable, the point of the list was to plaque of rust a dragon and shoot it down to nothgin. You can try and force it through with a L2 with a Lore Familiar (so that you guarantee Plague...

Regarding the double Lord choices - my bad. Shows you how often I put together 1500pt lists 🤦‍♂️ You would probably want to thinking of a good way to get a L2 or two in there. ...One small but significant improvement I’d recommend is to move the Ruby Ring from your Archmage to your High Sister. It means your magic isn’t all in one basket and it gives you dual threat. The High Sister can shoot with the rest of the squad and zap her fireball at someone else (maybe to finis...

Re: 1500 40 sisters.

My point is that you have points focused in on few units. The best way to defeat that is an army that has multiple smalle units - Brets, Chaos, even TK. I think whatever list you write, you’re going to be short on something (1500pts does not go a long way with expensive Elves!) but your list is hig...

Re: 1500 40 sisters.

I fear that your Core Sisters bunker will present too tempting a target for the entirety of your opponents army to aim for. I presume the Handmaiden and maybe the Archmage will be in/near it. In which case, your opponent need only to get a single combat-effective unit into it and you've lost 1100pts...

Re: Vaul's Unmaking - The High Elf Secret Weapon?

IMO the biggest limitation of Vaul’s is Type: Hex. Being only able to cast in your conjuring sub-phase you don’t get a chance to move into range first. Therefore you would have to attempt to set up the turn before (both range and front arc/LoS). Your opponent then obviously gets their turn to move ...

You're assuming you can get to within 12" of that lord whilst remaining in a safe position. Also pinning that dragon lord is a lot easier said than done, even with very defensive builds they still put out a ton of damage. Your best chance of pinning them is probably using courage of aenarion w...

We are entering the time of Herohammer. large monsters, dragons, and other gribblies are going to be extremely common, at least from the onset. We have the dragons and other large gribblies than can play into this very well. Now, most folk will eventually (pretty much immediately) will be building t...
