Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.
Dragon Princes are a more difficult sell for me. I typically like Silver Helms because they're a Core Choice, and make for a good escort for a Cavalry character. In both cases though, Silver Helms and Dragon Princes alike, Strength 3 is just very poor after their charge. Since they rarely break ran...

Re: Hands Across The Annulii - Avelorn and Chrace
Sometimes I think my choice of provinces and themes is some kind of backdoor wood elf envy... I resolved this issue by collecting both High and Wood Elf armies. The problem of which to field remains of course... Just bring both and fight yourself. That even resolves the issue of needing to find an ...

Re: Althi painting log
Agreed. That army is awesome! It looks cohesive and regal and disciplined. Exactly what you'd want with High Elves. Good luck in the tournament. Let us know how it goes. I do find it interesting that the game refuses to die, even after GW abandoned it. Also, feel free to share your Dark Elves here, ...

Re: How to deal with Skaven as High elves
How is the bell not an absolute Auto-include in every single skaven list, its so incredibly cheap for what it provides the seer and his unit. Cannons, insta-kill spells and personal preference. A dwarven gunline can probably remove the bell T1 or perhaps T2 from the table, after which the unit isn'...

Re: 40k: My Fallen Angels
I agree with SA. The Boarding Action game looks both fun and atmospheric. I like the terrain you have. It looks very flexible and well suited to 40k games. And it really gives off the vibe of a spaceship or industrial facility. A bit reminiscent of some of the Starcraft computer game scenario's. The...

Re: My Khorne models (40k & fantasy)
I know the feeling. Sometimes I'm jealous of people who manage to build a whole army in a year or even less time. While I'm glad to get a few models out. But I enjoy it and it's relaxing and that's all that matters. I must say it helps that I have a solid army done. So I can play without worrying ab...

Re: Sturens Painting Log (updated Jan 2023 – Campaign for Lustria)
I'm certainly knocking the dragon mage on the head, turns out one of the Lustria campaign scenarios will frequently cut flyers to 10" moves, which cripples the mobile terror test, fireball and breath weapon machine. That's rough. I sort of understand it from the perspective of the large, stron...

The Last Sword miniatures look amazing. And they seem like great guys (they dropped by on the forum here when they ran their kickstarter campaign), though that's not immediately a reason to like mini's of course.

Yeah, that definitely is an issue with elves... It's a lot harder if everything has to be perfect and symetrical rather than messy.

Re: Hands Across The Annulii - Avelorn and Chrace
I love them. They're really nice and it shows how small changes can give great results in making a unit look unique. And I feel your pain in not finding opponents to play against. It makes the hobby similar to building diorama's or model trains. It's motivating if you have battles coming up. But alr...

Re: 40k: My Fallen Angels
Regarding that Nagash model the difficulty was attaching the wings properly and doing the greenstuff cloak. This took me a while and since i am not that good with greenstuff it was a lot of try&error with the decision at the end, that it probably wont get any better, so the result is what you s...

I feel for sigmars chosen as I would be like "fuck that have you seen what's coming at us" Indeed. There are heroic last stands and then there's that... Dice can be a big factor but you can also mitigate how much of a disaster bad dice can actually be with some good redundancy planning lo...

Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.
I had a difficult game today agains woodelves. We had both a list based on CC. I had a lot of bad luck: we played the daw attack and most of my main units were very out of place, halving my aattck force for a significant part of the game. A lot of bad rolls, and good rolls for my opponent. Very few...

I like them. The red and blue work great together. And the bone armour sets it off nicely. It's a great effect and makes them look regal and menacing.

I like how you're always analyzing your own play and never blame losing on being unlucky or the other guy doing something weird. I think looking for what went wrong and being honest about it is the only way you can really improve. as a player. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FotelRyaEAAuKSc?format=jpg&a...

Re: How to deal with Skaven as High elves
Fair enough. That makes more sense. :) Stil, facing at least 2 casts of dreaded 13th per game is brutal. You could of course match him, cast for cast, with Dwellers Below. It's only 21 to cast, making it a lot easier to pull off. And with Throne of Vines you have great miscast protection. You don't ...

Re: Facing daemons of Nurgle in WAP 2500 points
The prince and his Sword paid off. He was last elf standing after he and his White lions went toe to toe with unit of plaguebearers, a match up that put the lions at a disadvantage. Having collected himself he decided to take on the enemy general, a daemon prince. He cut it down in one round and ea...

Re: Sturens Painting Log (updated Jan 2023 – Campaign for Lustria)
Shame on the loss, though it was to be expected after the interception of the Dragon Princes by the slayers. They represented a large chunk of your army, and one of your main mobile shock troops. They could have swung any of the central combats. The first Lion Chariot didn't help either. Getting no ...

They look epic indeed. I like the Nagash conversion of Caliban. it's simple (in that not a lot changed), but very effective. And yes, the Nazgul are by far the most awesome models in there
Thanks for sharing! Can we also get a group picture at some point in the future?

Re: How to deal with Skaven as High elves
If he has 6 dice, he casts dreaded 13th, every time without fail. if he doesn't have 6 dice, he eats warpstone tokens and casts dreaded 13th. I have seen him fail it before, but in 5? games now, he has cast it successfully.... maybe 12 times, definitely an average of 2-3 casts a game. in 2 of the g...

I understand the time issue. Somewhere along the way I grew up, got married, had kids... some of my children enjoy OPR and KoW though, when we get the time. Still... I miss ulthuan and the other games don't quite scratch that itch. Same here, though my kids are still a bit too young for Warhammer. ...

Re: How to deal with Skaven as High elves
I had in mind that the bell had a 4+ ward in total. Which would have been a very different story. In that case, any spells which allow ward saves are not an option. Getting 6 wounds past a 2+ ward save is an impossible task. The grey seer may be a better target, with only LD6. Even with MR2 you coul...

This is the one thing we didn't want to happen. Ouch! That's definitely not something you want. Tight battle. I think it does show the unbalance you can have at 1.000pts. Shooting can be very painful. Of course, dwarven shooting is always painful. But at this points level, its impact can be devasta...

Though I've heard someone describe roman naval tactics as "they mounted giant boarding planks on their ships and turned naval battles into land battles" so maybe that's the idea here...

For me the fact that they haven't hinted at a timeline means it's still a long way off. And we'll see what we get. Of course new models (which look less ridiculous that flying sharks with machineguns) would be great. Hopefully the rules are good. And if not I'll just keep playing 8th edition. I don'...

The squigs look amazing. I just love their chaotic feel. They do look like a bag of skittles gone ferral. In a good way of course. I wouldn't even know where to begin if I saw that bouncing mass across the table

Congrats on the win. I think Dawn Attack is usually a tough scenario for HE, since we depend on synergy between units and a tight deployment so much. So well done in pulling it off.

Have you tried them with the Razor Banner (can they take magical banners in WAP)? It's not as good as a straight up S5 of course, but I've run PG with it in 8th with great effect. I think it would suit them in their role as infantry killers (where T is less often a factor but armour can make a diffe...

Congrats on getting the win! Sounds like progress to me :) One thing to note is that you should make sure you and your opponent know all the rules regarding Skaven. They have a lot of very specific ones. For instance, your opponent seems to be missing that the Storm Banner affects his shooting as mu...
