Re: Bolt thrower, good or bad?
Having said that, only a dwarves as far as I can tell can take a regular cannon - although the Empire Great Cannon is undisputedly better than RBT at monster killing (probably even at a 3:2 ratio). I'm going to have a look through the various army lists, but I think we're the only BS4 bolt thrower ...

Re: Bolt thrower, good or bad?
Combined with hitting half the time, you're only doing a wound every 4 shots, and that's before saves. Compare that to a cannon, which has the same range, but S8. You only misfire every 6 shots, then you wound T6 stuff on a 2+, and on average do the same nr of wounds before saves (though they're AP...

Re: Blood of Caledor Archmage
Unfortunately no spell casting in armour, unless the armour explicitly says it can. Of course you'll get the 6+ from the mount, and then can add in 5+/5+ if needed. You may need to run a larger unit of Dragon Princes so they can't chip away 1 R&F and start targeting the mage. To elaborate a bit...

Re: Bolt thrower, good or bad?
If you're using them for multi-shot, then in my opinion, there are better options for the points. 1 RBT gets you 5 Sisters of Averlorn. In terms of shooting, you get (multi-shot): 3+D3 shots, 48'' range, BS 4 (with a -1 to Hit), S4, AP 1, AB 1 5 shots, 30'' range, BS 5, S3, AP1, AB2, ignores cover T...

Re: The Old World Roadmap - High Elves confirmed after the Empire
The brave and refreshing thing to do would of course be to introduce new characters. It would add to the lore and create a fresh look at the Old World. It would offer new stories instead of going back to the same old tales. I'm not sure they're going to do that though. The Old World also feels a bit...

I agree. That army looks epic! It has to be a joy to play with and against.
Good luck in the event and let us know how it went. And take plenty of pictures for us!

Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports
Interesting lists for sure. I like Warden of Saphery as an honour. The Sword of Hoeth, and Killing Blow special rules are wonderful for the price. I don't rate the Reaver Bow on a prince at all though (or on any other character really). The problem is that a Prince doesn't have the Arrows of Isha sp...

Re: The Old World Roadmap - High Elves confirmed after the Empire
I'd love to see an actual Phoenix King take to the field (might we finally see a S5, T4 elf character?) I very much doubt it. Even Tyrion and Korhil were only ever S4, T3. And they were reputedly the most bad-ass elves since the forming of the vortex. I don't think GW is going to change that. One r...

Re: 2k Sisters & Skycutters - no dragon
That looks like a fun list to play with. And it should have enough hitting power to hold its own in a medium strength environment I think. After giving your list some thoughts, I would like to try something similar. However, I don't really have much experience with a handmaiden general and core sist...

Re: The Old World Roadmap - High Elves confirmed after the Empire
Exiting news! Thanks for sharing. It's great to see the timeline laid out. Seems like GW is figuring out how to play the hype-train. There's a few nuggets in there that are worth mentioning. The reference to the High Elves merwyrming does hint at an actual merwyrm showing up, which would give us a n...

Re: Skycutter illusion mage thoughts
I like the chariots as an alternative mount if you're looking for a more budget choice, or if you're going for a friendlier list where you don't want big monsters. They're still plenty strong I feel, while not dominating the field in the way a (star) dragon does. And the Skycutter is definitely one ...

Re: 2000 pts TAC
Sounds like you had a fun tourney. And it sounds like a good performance for a first showing. Seaguard were not great. The razor standard got, maybe 5 extra wounds across 5 games. I probably needed to be moving them more upfield to get better shots off. My issue with them is that if I use them more ...

They look great! They must look amazing on the table. Re: Ulthuan Rallies for War
That looks like an epic game. Also, the Bret army looks so small for 3500pts... Congrats on the win. Magic has been a bit hit or miss for me. I've had a game recently where I failed almost all my casting rolls, and all my dispell rolls. Which meant that my lvl4 was useless, but my opponent's lvl2 ma...

Re: List for 2000pt tournament
It should be a fun list. I think the frostheart phoenix isn't the strongest choice. It's not bad by any means, but it's not great either. Also, beware of facing bretonians and their falcon horn. You could be stuck on a M2 model for a large part of the game. Also, I'm guessing you're aiming for Spect...

Just out of curiosity, how would you run the swordmasters? 3x5? I currently have them in 6x2 for extra damage. Same goes for the spearmen. 6x3 If you give them Drilled, then you can change their formation as needed, even on turns you charge. So that's always an option. I tend to run them 7-wide to ...

Re: A couple of takes on a High Elf "Goodstuff" list
Sun Dragon mage always gives me pause so I'll be curious how it continues. I don't like that it's neither super happy outside combat (vulnerable to mid strength shooting) or in it, and impetuous has a nasty habit of hitting at exactly the wrong moment. I think the sun dragon isn't too bad in that r...

Re: 2K vs Orcs
In regards to the bolt thrower, the consensus is that point-for-point, sisters are better. Though sisters have shorter range, BS5 is a big deal, and ignore cover helps even more. As does the fact that for the RBT, the multi-shot suffers from an additional -1 to hit, so you're effectively shooting at...

When people query SD getting off at initiative when holding White Sword, how do you explain the FAQ to opponents and tournament organisers? In what sense do you mean? The FAQ mentions this: Q: Do special rules conferred by a model’s weapon apply to attacks made by that model’s mount? A: No. Any rul...

Re: Secret Tech; Wizarding Hat on a champion
I personally think this doesn't work. Or rather, it doesn't give you an extra spell. A character with the loremaster honour is a lvl1 mage. Turning him into a lvl 1 mage using an item doesn't grant him an extra spell, just as giving the wizarding hat to a lvl 4 archmage doesn't give the archmage an ...

Re: White Lions + High Magic = can it make them viable?
It makes them terrible for a tournament list, which is partially why you rarely see them I guess. Most people build all-commers lists (or at least give all-commers advice). With Phoenix Guard, you can count on them in every match-up to do the same thing. Same with Swordmasters. One has a decent armo...

My go-to place for second hand miniatures is the UK ebay. They have the biggest selection in my experience. Another option is selling to second hand sites. I've bought miniatures from whtreasury , and they buy from people as well. As for how much, that's tricky to answer. It's very much a collectors...

You may want to decide on whether you're buying the big Tomb Kings box before anything since it comes with the core rulebook which would be a decent amount of savings compared to buying it separately. This is a good point. I think the TK box set gives you something like a 30% discount on everything...

You guys do have a lot of valid points and I might just be throwing glitter on a turd in to make it shine. It does seem to be a lot of hard work (& no amount of good luck) in order to get something out of them, which feels horribly inefficient. I'm also wondering if it depends a bit on who you'...
