Re: ....Have we gone top tier?

I was helping a friend out recently by letting him use my HEs for when he goes to the GT this year (WEs just dont cut it!) and I wrote up a lsit for him and I thought id playtest it to get a feel of it and then let him use it to see which lore he thinks will muster the right stuff. This list include...

Re: Equipping the Seermage

I have a DE friend who uses a level 2 with the any double is IF for this turn and takes dark magic, it ticks me off to no end. Usually he'll get a leadership one or worst yet he might get number 5. If he gets a 5 then you can kiss your prime magic user goodbye because the first thing he'll do is mar...

Re: Best Elite in 8th??

Im always gonig to take at least one unit of 6 DPs with the AP banner, they really do a lot of damage wherever they go. Being immune to flaming nowadays is nothing to be sniffed at, what with breath weapons being able to be used in combat too they can run into a hydra and do a lot of damage, especia...

Re: Equipping the Seermage

Thats what I thought when someone brought that up, but someone on the sidelines looked it up and apparently it only counted for abalities that give you whole knowledge of a lore. So we played it that I was allowed to do it, dont have a book on hand at the moment so if anyone could clarify this then ...

Re: Equipping the Seermage

Im going to keep him as cheap as possible, imgoing to take a level 2 with seerstaff and thats it. Because all he does is take the spell my Hoeth mage doesnt want. If i was using him as an actual mage without the book of winning then id probably keep him naked still, anything that could help him seem...

Gonna go with a no on this as well. You play it however you want Foxbat, but you know that you'll ahve to run every opponent you play through this and there is a reason why you need to do it. Assassin shoving wasnt cricket at all, and nor will this be. These people may win tournaments but the tourna...

Re: 3,000 right out the starting gates

Well saving 20 points on an Ogre blade would be nice, but what defence could he get thats worth it for that many points? I mean he already has a 1+ rerollable, he doesnt need to be the general either, Teclis could take the burden. But I see what you mean, just recently I played a game with that guy ...

This weekend I achieved the best in race trophy for HEs at Tides of Chaos which was a 72 man tourny held in Reading. I shall beguile you with a few overlying details! What I took; I took my standard SCGT list that I have taken to nearly every tourny this year, this list has placed me as top HE resul...

Re: My first 8th Ed grumble

Also those bolt throwers that I will face, Gary, will be swarmed with pideons, so i guess thats what you're shooting? Because although it wont kill the bolt thrower you wont kill the eagle fast enough to shoot anything new soon. And you can onyl shoot one eagle per turn per bolt thrower, and a sing...

Re: My first 8th Ed grumble

they are very very slightly more prone to death by shooting than before (since you need 6's to wound it with most things now, as opposed to 5-6 to hit the crew followed by 4's or even 3's to wound them, works out roughly the same (with s4-5 it was easier to kill the old machine than the new one). I wont be using bolt throwers anymore simply because they're just too damn squishy, two wounds at T10? Yeah that'll last long. But I have a new plan, our feathered friends my Ulthuan chums, they are the answer! FLOCKS AND FLOCKS OF EAGLES. As far as the eye can see. 10 Eagles floating the battlefiel...

Re: LSG 8th ed ranks and files ?

The problem is you have to think about what LSG can actually kill that is owrth their time. I bet most of you are thinking of Warriors of Chaos as the opponent in your mind. But what you should really think about is somewhat equal opponents. Considering all the time that the biggest rank attack you ...

Re: White Lions or Sword Masters in 8th?

I think I might go with 7 wide white lions in 2 ranks and a flaming banner. Its not cheap compared to a 2000 point game but with all the new toys I think people will just WANT to go up a thousand.

Re: I'm back at it: Writing 8th Ed. Tactica on High Elves

Personally I think a prince with the +3 strength weapon and helm of fortune + loec will do just fine on a horse. 4 strength 7 rerollable (most of the time) attacks seems pretty damn good to me. And if he gets into real trouble he can always pop loec to make sure an enemy lord hits the dirt.

Re: When the love is gone

Embrace life to the full, if love is all there was then would it not be a very singular existence? To give such weight in a single emotion while logically unsound is innevitable both spritually and chemically, its withdrawel syptoms. The only solice anyone can take is thus; what if the love was gone...

If a Swordmasters ceromonial ithrilmar greatsword is not made an exception for in the new rules, then I have lost faith in GWs tie to the fluff of the whole thing. IT was already wavering, but i hoenstly believe that a lot of their actions are dictated by fluff, regardless of if they rewrite old stu...

Re: How do you kill or stop a vampire lord?

I find if i drop a flames of the phoenix on his unit he'll probably jump ship, then just follow him around with it, making him more concerned about his saftey rather than actually doing things. If he's a dragonhoof man (Nightbus) then a spirit of the forge will scare him into the ground. Also a kitt...

I was actually thinking of doing a Ravyn Retribution list, revolving around starfall archers and having 4 heavy Myrms, 2 manticores, 1 phoenix and a hydra. Yep, and if you're ASF'ing and you have high I you get re-rolls. So you'd fight before a blood thirster but you wouldnt get rerolls.

Also until that errata is out I'll be playing it the way I said as its quite clear!

Re: 8th ED ASF + Great Weapon

Before you spread that one Lan, you need to read the Speed of Asuryan special rule on page 43. The rule states that you get ASF with Speed of Asuryan, regardless of the weapon you are using. And that sentance alone forces HEs into a very strong spot against all armies. Swordmasters will still have A...

Re: Today with 8th

It says that the mage carries wounds over to its transformed form if it has lost any, so if you're a level 4 and lost 2 wounds already you'd be a fire dragon with 6 wounds. However it says nothing of the sort for turning back into a mage. Thus i would percieve that you now have 6 wounds and if the s...

I think archmage +dragon mage is going be a powerful combo. Although the 2D6 thing is only going to be strength 2. The mage combo'd with banner of sorc can push you way over the amount of dice allowed per phase. With the archmage perhaps taking seerstaff to get the dragon spell and the dragon mage t...

For an extra 10 pounds it...

So today I played a game of 8th, notable things to happen are thus. I turned my level 4 into a dragon that is MUCH better than a star dragon, and thats the less killy type of monster it turns into. I also made a purple ball eclipse a popemobile, a unti of outriders, a level 2 wizard and several othe...
