Re: Old World announcement and now "Pointy" Aelves.

So do we think it'll be a head swap kind of army..... Or do we just hope for the Old World to be better and not worry about it? We'll, the MC Hammers ARE nice models...with the exception of the very top of their helmets. I am pretty sure Kromlech or someone will make new heads for them Yeah, the ge...

Re: Last chance to buy

I picked up the ones I really wanted back when AoS was still new. Would have liked to get some more White Lions, but just wasn't going to be financially practical when the Last Chance was announced. Maybe I'll get some when a reprisal comes up. An optimist might say they've been pulled so they can b...

Re: What about the aelves?

Looking at the different mini-factions I get the impression that they are not meant to be used as a complete army (unless you're playing sigmarines that is). Most of them consist of only a few units. They are a nice starting point if you want to get into the game. You start with mini-faction X. It'...

Re: Total War: Warhammer II

They're including the Southlands in game 2. Now, that doesn't necessarily include the desert areas, but having a megacampaign with the Southlands in but with Araby and Nehekhara out would be... curious, to say the least. So what's left for TWW3 appears to be the east... and the Realm of Chaos itself...

Re: Total War: Warhammer II

i haven't seen it directly, but CA has apparently confirmed that their long-term plan encompasses all of the fifteen 8E army books plus Chaos Dwarfs... and may go further. A lot of people are pushing for them to also include some of the human factions that GW didn't do and which are nevertheless on ...

Re: Total War: Warhammer II

I think it's a bit of both - you don't need the original to play, but if you HAVE the original they'll connect together (once the megacampaign is done) and act like expansions to one another. Kind of like the Starcraft 2 model. It's a model that does somewhat rely on releasing the installments withi...

Re: What about the aelves?

Noting that I haven't actually played any games, so this is just secondhand and looking at the rules... While the Wanderers possibly do have the most complete monofaction list of the Aelves, there's not a huge advantage to going monofaction. Wanderers have a battleline unit (Glade Guard) even if you...

Re: IoB rereleased for AoS

Pretty much. While I came across it by fluke, I was thinking a month or so ago that it was a shame that the miniatures from that set seem to have been abandoned, since they're of the same generation as many that are currently available and the Seaguard, surprisingly enough, have a thematic similarit...

IoB rereleased for AoS

Just happened to stumble across this: https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Age-of-Sigmar-Spire-of-Dawn-ENG Looks like they're reusing the same sprues - the models are identical. They're calling the Lothern Seaguard "Spireguard" and the Ellyrion Reavers simply "Reavers" - from the...

Re: Finally

That's my gut feeling as well: summoning in matched play looks like it's a bit like deep striking in 40K. On the one hand, when the unit arrives, you can place it where you like. On the other hand, you may not be able to get it when you need it. AoS summoning gives the player more agency on when it ...

Re: Finally

I'm not sure what a typical game would be, but it is still a game about units rather than individuals (unless the individuals are heroes). I'd probably expect that you could get a reasonable game with about four units and a character... you could probably put that together using High Elf miniatures ...

Re: Finally

It's $225 in Australia - no, exchange rates and shipping do not justify the extra hundred. Here, they pretty much find an excuse to raise the prices whatever's happening. If the Australian dollar is high, then the cost of raw materials is high so prices go up! If the Australian dollar is low, the ex...

Re: Finally

Agreed. The whole thing reminds me of WOTC going to 4th edition D&D, in fact. D&D has always been essentially the Warhammer of roleplaying games (or perhaps saying that WH has been the D&D of non-historical miniature wargaming might be more accurate), being the first game that most peopl...

Re: Finally

To be perfectly honest, I’m inclined to think that anyone who seriously believed that AoS as released would pick up the sales within the year was kidding themselves. They both literally and figuratively demolished what they’d built and have been building up from scratch, which with even the best pla...

Re: Battleline if army has X allegiance

I think that's how it works. I only had a brief look at the rules, but I think I saw something in there about how you can choose your army's allegiance if there are multiple choices, but you can only choose an allegiance if all your units have that allegiance. So having Order allegiance is fairly ea...

Re: Grand alliance order

It is an interesting question, which might influence what ratio of sales there are. Pure collectors would probably buy more of the bigger setpiece models. For players of other games, they'd probably buy things that can fit nicely into whatever they're playing: Empire/Bretonnian stuff for purely hist...

Re: Grand alliance order

Hahahah... yeah. Most of the later WHFB stuff was... expensive, but the argument could be made that the higher quality deserved it (a lot of miniatures I didn't like for stylistic reasons, but that's subjective). Some of the stuff that's coming out at the moment... well. Dracothian Guard are more ex...

Re: Grand alliance order

I think there is some interesting potential in the ‘microfactions’. For instance, consider the Order Draconis. In Warhammer-that-was, a pure Caledorian army would have Dragon Princes, maybe a dragon or two, spearelf and archer retainers, maybe the odd RBT or unit of Silver Helms as minor Caledorian ...

Re: Whom do you serve? The End Times: Khaine (SPOILER ALERT)

Hrrrm. I thought I had posted to this the first time around. Evidently not. Short answer: Of the various characters involved, the one I'd be inclined to go with is Caledor Dragontamer. So I guess I'm reluctantly ending up in the Eternity King camp. Long answer: If we don't pay attention to the later...

Given that the images have shown Caradryan mounted on a fiery phoenix, I think it was a pretty safe bet that he'd have new rules - there's no option for that combination under the current rules.

Re: ET Archaon

Actually, to me it seems like it may be a case of a legitimate Hysh ex machina. Each of the winds of magic has a certain character associated with it, a personality which it imparts onto those who use it. Elves are less affected than humans are, but it's likely that at the point an elf become an inc...

Surely tyrion incarnate can't be more powerful than tyrion the physical embodiment of the God of murder and war.. Malekith and Alarielle were both more powerful as incarnates of a wind than they were as the avatars of Asuryan and Isha respectively. Keep in mind that each Wind represents 12.5% of th...

With the end times stuff, another possibility could be to make them count as Cold One Knights in an End Times list. The stats aren't an exact match, but Stupidity could be explained as the lions not being entirely adjusted to service as a mount.

3 has already been proven false - gods have died in the End Times, and their works have not vanished. 1 and 2 strike me as misunderstanding the nature of the Realm of Chaos. The Realm of Chaos is heavily influenced by the Chaos Gods as the most powerful entities, but it is not defined by them - othe...

Re: All this has happened before: Khaine Analysis [BIG SPOIL

Makes sense. The Everqueen had the spark of Isha through a line of matrilinear descent and the dwarf kings do indeed trace back to their ancestor-gods, so I could see them having the spark of divinity that way. Probably have a better claim to it than Karl Franz, in fact. So, that leaves Beasts and M...

Re: End Times: Thanquol fluff discussion [SPOILERS!]

Skaven have always had hints of Chaos about them though - they are a kind of beastman afterall. There is also some commonality between the different Skaven factions and Chaos gods i.e. Pestilens and Nurgle, etc. This is my thinking as well - Skaven are essentially Children of Chaos just like the be...
