The draw to OT for me had always been the people. Most of the people I enjoyed talking with left or were banned. I had the most fun on this site during the campaign. I even went back to the previous site in 2013 just to look through stuff again. I don't recognize too many people around here anymore....

If I remember right, there was a demo for gem painting in the 6th edition book, which you can find online. If you dig through some of the models here, you'll see a fair amount of variety as to how to paint different things, which could help answer some of your questions

Hopefully, I'm one of those people that starts projects but might only revisit them every few years or so. This was just an introduction, so I should clear everything up in the next several installments
