Re: Walk between worlds - is it overrated?

Walk Between Worlds has put in a lot of work in my games. What makes it so good is that it lasts during your opponent's turn, so if you manage to get the unit/character into combat with a unit, and they don't have a way of dealing magical damage, the enemy stands a good chance of losing that combat ...

Re: Double dragon 2k competitive

Not having 2+ save on prince is madness. Drop GW, and add shield and cav spear. Too late for this event, i'm afraid. List has been submitted, so i'll see how it gets on but in practice i've not missed the difference between a 3+ and 2+ AS. At least not when getting to swing with 4x S6 AP-2 attacks ...

Re: Semi casual 1300 Points Tournament List

I would recommend foregoing the Prince for a Noble BSB on Griffon with Pure of Heart for the 18" ld9 bubble with Hold Your Ground rerolls, and going with a lv.4 Archmage, seasoned to taste. Other armies can pack in a fighty lord and a lv.4 Wizard for every 1,000 points, so if this is a tourname...

Re: How to make a fighty Archmage?

Without our Archmages being able to wear armour by default, if you want to make a melee-mage, you're kinda stuck taking them on a dragon or taking Blood of Caledor and a barded elven steed for plate armour at least. Depending on what you're charging them into, you may or may not be asking for your m...

Re: Ulthuan Rallies for War

Played a very interesting 1250 point match versus Dwarfs. My opponent had a King, a Thane (non-BSB), Ironbreakers, Longbeards, Irondrakes, Rangers, Ogre mercenaries, a Gyrocopter and Organ gun. I had 30 Spearmen (Shieldwall, Veteran, War Banner), 20 Swordmasters (Rampaging Banner, Drilled, Cloak of ...

Re: Ulthuan Rallies for War

Skaven Does their list seem good and full-featured for play Tyrren? Given it's not from the core books. Yeah, I'd say so, they've got a very strong caster in the Grey Seer on Screaming Bell, an anti-infantry monster in the Hell Pit Abomination, and with how combat works now, they have decent cheap ...

Re: 1500 Griffon Prince

Personally I think a lot of players are undervaluing infantry overall this edition. In this match up, I've had great luck with blocks of infantry. At 1500 points I've run an Archmage (lv.4, High Magic, Warden of Saphery), Griffon Noble BSB (Pure of Heart), 20 spearmen (Shieldwall, full command), 20 ...

Re: 1500 Griffon Prince

I'm really interested to hear how your list does! But one important observation from my experiences versus Skaven is that you're probably going to go up against a lot model-heavy units. If one of your cavalry charges fails to force a Fall Back in Good Order or a Flee, you're going to struggle in the...

I know that feeling. Remembering to take photos is hard :) How did they perform for you? I'm happy to say I am currently undefeated. There was almost a draw in a battle with a Warriors of Chaos army, but I realized after the battle that my opponent hadn't counted the points for captured banners, wh...

Re: Ulthuan Rallies for War

Any plans for taking the army for a fight? They've been in quite a lot of scraps already, mostly on their old bases, some on spaced movement trays (which I ultimately abandoned because of all the redressing and reforming I was using), but haven't gotten a chance to battle on the new base adapters y...

Re: Ulthuan Rallies for War

I put the army on the base adapters, and holy hell, it's so much bigger in terms of its footprint. I think the solution I'm going with is magnetizing the bases, then gluing metal bases from Shogun miniatures to the bottoms of the adapters so they can just stick on with the miraculous power of magnet...

Re: Ulthuan Rallies for War

Indeed, redressing means a whole bunch of work. It doesn't happen all that much in my games, so I'll be fine I think. And in the few instances where it does happen, then having one or two models not the exact correct width is good enough. I'll put up some pictures if I get some. Have you considered...

Re: Ulthuan Rallies for War

Wellp, those base adapters finally showed up and they were a wash. They printed them in hard plastic as opposed to the soft plastic they advertised in their video. I was hoping for something that would be easy and damage-free when placing on my old bases. I'm also realizing how different GW 20mm ba...

Re: Phoenix Guard in a Marching Column

This isn’t too bad of a tactic if you don’t mind losing the +2 rank bonus. You could offset this with a combat res magic banner, and then a BSB with another combat res magic banner. Since you’re usually okay taking, and in some cases want to take a charge for the supporting attacks, being in marchin...

The scroll must be used when making a wizardly dispel which means they'd have to be in range to do so.

Re: Back into the fray - But what do I do now?

Lv.1-2 mages have an 18" dispel range, and lv.3-4 archmages have a 24" dispel range. If I were you, I'd go at least one Archmage and a mage. Silvery Wand gives you an extra spell and Lore Familiar allows you to pick your spells. I personally like having a lv.4 with 5 spells and if I ever t...

Re: Drilled Tactica or How to Swordmaster

No matter what amount of mental gymnastics you attempt to pull, I'm absolutely positive you're not going to find an opponent that agrees that you can make multiple maneuvers while marching, so you can keep arguing the rules are unclear, but I'd say it's kinda pointless.

Re: New FAQs

The clarification for screening an impetuous unit with skirmishers doesn't make it harder to screen them, it clarifies that you can. Before folks were getting caught up and needlessly extrapolating from the word "may" that impetuous or frenzied units had to declare a charge if there was an...

I'll say this for Drain Magic, it has caused a couple of my opponents to miscast the dispel attempt in their conjuration phase a couple of times, once nullifying their casting for the rest of their turn. I wouldn't say it's useless either, it just requires more advantageous situations to use effecti...

You should give your characters Pure of Heart for free so they pass panic tests automatically and more importantly your BSB has an 18" ld9 bubble. You might also want to consider removing your Drakemaster from your Dragon Princes, if you charge them into characters, they can be challenged nulli...

@TyrrenAzureblade, maybe you even want your 2x7 SM dart to be charged in the flank by lowly State Troops for them to be slaughtered and unable to hit back.... Now you're legitimately thinking outside the box, this has some potential for interesting application. 14 Swordmasters without command model...
