Re: Need help vs Skaven Plague unit
A great tip for the plague furnace is to flank the unit - very easy to do if you have eagles to redirect due to the enforced frenzy overrun. It can't 'make way' so you avoid the furnace's attacks. In theory, a combat reform can put it back in contact, but the rules for a combat reform mean you have ...

Re: Double Dragon list
Loks good - the DP unit paired with the Prince, and the White Lions to add hitting power to the infantry section of the list. Stubborn should mean they can perform a holding job on occasion if needed as well. So what are your thoughts on the mounted BSB suggestion? As you probably noticed from my re...

Re: Double Dragon list
Greetings from another double-dragon user! My report thread (see sig) has some double dragon games it might be worth checking out. First of all, from my experience one of the units I found works best supporting the dragon is a decent sized block of cavalry supporting your prince. I use 10 DPs with a...

They do seem pretty nasty overall. Still, seems like some dodgy rules interpretations certainly didn't help the OPs situation. They are now Vampiric in the new book. No no no. They are definitely not vampiric. And their Regen is only 6+. So a move of only 10" unless they are within the general'...

Re: War machine hunting with lore of life.
The effects of the spell can only take place in close combat because it's a base to base spell Y'see, there's the problem. They don't happen in close combat - they happen in the Magic phase. They happen in base contact, but the description for war machines specifically states the crew's toughness i...

Re: War machine hunting with lore of life.
There's a problem with this spell against war machines, however. A war machine uses the machine's toughness against ranged attacks, and the crew's against CC attacks. The hits from Shield of Thorns are clearly not CC attacks (they occur in the magic phase). Same thing for Fire Cloak from the Lore of...

Re: Advice on magic lore for 2 dragon list
I agree the DM isn't an optimum choice, but he certainly can be fun - link in my sig has a series of battle reports with a double dragon list that might help highlight the advantages and disadvantages of the idea. As has been stated, you need the Silver Wand on the DM - it will make the difference b...

Re: To Dragon Lord or not to Dragon Lord...
I have found that shadow warriors cover both of these worries very nicely. At 92 points, you get a sub-par warmachine hunter unit, but they can accept challenges for your Dragon Lord. I'd personally argue you'd be better of with Reavers, or even a small unit of Helms. Scouts usually mean you will b...

As far as troops go the standouts would be dragon princes and phoenix guard with their int 6 Makes no difference at all if both sides have ASF - everyone strikes simultaneously, and NOONE gets rerolls. Re: To Dragon Lord or not to Dragon Lord...
Dragons are great fun, and can have a massive impact on the enemy army, what with their ability to quickly manouver around plenty of high-strength attacks to support your units. Steadfast means they won't break ranked infantry on their own, but in terms of concentrating killing power into a single m...

Just a quick point regarding Foe Bane - While I'd certainly agree that in an all-comers list its worse than useless, if you are tailoring it shines in certain matchups. The most obvious is against the Sphinx - T8? HA! I wound you on 2+ anyway! There are other high-T low armour save monsters it can d...

Re: Curu Olannon's Vindicators - 2500pts Army Blog
While I'm sure all archers work for some lists, for me the main benefit with spears is I know exactly what I want to do with them. I don't have to worry about whether I should leave them wide to get more shots off, or reform deep to face a potential charge. I don't need to worry about whether I face...

how does Charmed Shield work with cannonballs? Does it block just the part of the hit that affects the Prince or does it block the cannonball completely? Sadly, it just blocks the hit on the Prince. On the other hand, I still find it a hugely useful item - while the prince has a ward (unlike the Dr...

For those of you who've tried Dragons - are there any other builds than Armour of Caledor / Vambraces of Defense that are useful? My guy has Vambraces, Charmed Shield and a lance - cheap and fairly effective, though the lack of S6 after the charge does hurt the prince. Of course, you can counter it...

Here's hoping the DPs can murderize the Hydra eh? It looks like you have a rear charge open with the reavers...

Welcome to the HE! There was a very similar topic not so long ago (player starting HE and wanting help with a 1000 point list). My recommendation was: Heroes Lvl 2 Mage w Silver Wand (High or Light or Shadow) = 145 Core 29 Spears w Full Command, Gleaming Pennant = 291 Special 5 Dragon Princes = 150 ...

Re: Rage of the Shadow Prince....
Though the metal default being a flaming attack isn't one for the DPs. (I believe their ward kicks in on it?) Indeed it does - the magic missile isn't the problem. Plague of Rust and Enchanted Blades, however, can be a serious annoyance for knights - particularly when facing armour piercing attacks...

No mention of the Dragonhelm yet? Hmmm. Assuming the unit will protect the BSB can be optimistic - anyone that can target the BSB probably will target the BSB these days, seeing how vital they are in 8th. The only way the BSB is getting a decent save is with the AoC, seeing is its the only way to ge...

The immediate problem I can see with the list is you have a dragon, but lack unit champions. I feel you need champions in all your combat units in a dragon list to soak up challenges and let your dragon stomp R&F. Not sure I agree with Curu's dismissal of the Moon Dragon (obviously Star is bette...

Innnnteresting. I agree with GhostWarrior, though. If you're picking Fire spells, always pick flaming sword. Brilliant spell. I'm not hugely impressed with Flamestorm - I can see the appeal of having a template to throw around, but it scatters, and compares badly to other template spells for a simil...

first of all i have to understand the way to lead match-up on the battlefield... who fights who? Gang up on units. Remember your small elite units will not break steadfast against most units, so combo-charge with the unit of spears - spears provide the ranks, elites provide the casualties. That way...

Re: im new and i have to build my first list! help plz
The most important point to realise is that HE work best with Support . They are largely too fragile to go 1-on-1 with enemy units and grind them down the way many other armies can, so you need to work out ways to combine forces against enemy units, either using magic or additional units to help ens...

Re: How Fences won me a tournament, and 2 Dragons!
Buying the RGoH for your BSB and making him mounted on a b.e.s. is an incredible value, since now you have +3 to dispel in your army and some more spell options. Only +2 sadly, seeing as RGoH makes them a Lvl 1 Mage, and the DM doesn't get the +1 to dispel. Still, I found the BSB a massively useful...

Great to hear you had some success with the list! Particularly given that all 3 opponents had S10 D6 wound artillery that are the bane of Dragons! Re: Here Be Dragons - a Caledor Army Blog
With both dragons in the fight, the rear charge doesn't kill you, because you get to shred infantry. The Dragon Mage dies the second round, and likely gives away 2-3 CR, but Prince+Dragon+Thunderstomp averages about 9 CR on the infantry. Its a good point. And the DM would have been in the front of ...

Right, well I should probably chip in here, seeing as apparenly I'm the one to blame for this insanity! :D First off, the list. From my double dragon experiences so far, I've found having a mage knight BSB helps immensely - two more spells to cast, and another source of the +2 to dispel as backup fo...
