Re: 2000 p. Illusion prince. Thoughts?
I think it's a lot of points that you're spending to try something that will fail to be cast more than 50% of the time just on your dice and be easy-ish for your opponent to dispel with competent wizards. I'm honestly of the opinion that Spectral Doppleganger is a trap, but I'm still getting my army...

Re: Drilled Tactica or How to Swordmaster
Thinking about this for a moment, I want to move outside of the rules a bit. It's probably best to consider how actual people would be doing this in real life when it comes to the movement phase. We see a block of troops remove or add models to it's front rank, realign the models behind them, and th...

Re: Quest - Track down a white dwarf painting guide from 2010 - 2014
Well let's see...looks like the boar boys plastic kit came out in May 22nd of 2010 and was shown off in WD365. That issue has a conversion for a black orc big boss in it too, with a in depth painting guide. Is this the one you're looking for? It's in May 2010's issue, which is available in the Warha...

Re: Drilled Tactica or How to Swordmaster
Well it's not really a cost thing so much as a cap on how far any model can move without say magic. Now when you redress the ranks your not sending models from the front rank to the rear of course, the unit is contracting or expanding as a group so it's not much movement either way. I suppose 3"...

Re: Drilled Tactica or How to Swordmaster
Ahhh, yes an important factor to consider too! The stamina of any individual sword master isn't infinite so they can only run about so much in a turn. Very important to keep that rule in mind.

I'm slap chopping my models in a similar fashion but I think it's better to mix other techniques in for thinks like elves. I'm using metallics for metals and still doing at least one highlight pass for the flesh of the elves with a lighter tone. The idea is more about speeding up the a lot of highli...

Re: Earthen Rampart and Chariots
If a unit is defending a low linear obstacle (like a fence for example) enimies that wish to charge them only need to come up to one side of the obstacle. So the chariots are just fine even if they couldn't cross the barrier, magical or otherwise. "A unit behind a low linear obstacle can defend...

Re: Casting order matters?
That's simply how the spells work one would imagine. Something in how the winds of magic are weaved into the spell, something protective must shut out spells when cast. The shimmering wards of the Shield of Saphery just do that. At least I don't see anything under Enchantments that say only one per ...

Re: Badland Ogre Bulls
I don't think Pure of Heart does anything for the mercenaries rules. The Ogres would certainly appreciate the leadership buff but the whole extra mercenary step is just a die roll. On a 1 they have to roll on a sub table with some bad and some good stuff, otherwise they're normal troops for your game.

Re: New FAQs
I was very glad to see my question about skirmisher stupidity got answered. That one actually felt like it wasn't really in the rules given how fringe it was.
The problem with the Bedazzling helm was really the -1 to hit more than the armor so the dragon helm isn't quite on par with it.

The war bows of the Sea Guard would likely appreciate the armour bane banner in my mind. More dangerous in ranged and in melee which would be good, especially in a big block like that.
I like the griffon. I'm a more offense than defense for our T3 troops, so I vote Ruby Ring.

Yeah, it probably should have come up. It makes sense giving ground is just a move so drilled should have been usable. Still in the mindset that any kind of reverse movement is fleeing from WHFB I guess. XD

Re: Various Character builds?
Just so it's said, high elf mages can't ride Tiranoc chariots. I don't know /why/ they're not on the list but for some reason they aren't. I like a high elf mage with Blood of Caledor, a barded steed and battle magic in a unit of dragon princes. Hammerhanding and being roughly still equivalent to th...

Re: Drain magic - useless?
Having only watched a few games with it, it didn't seem really that effective. The level fours were crushing the TN's already at those times so the penalty wasn't making a huge difference.
People might have different experiences though.

You could still wheel after you've gotten up there. I assumed that's what you were doing.
Kind of a sword masters drift, give them a flank charge into a much larger amount of sword master attacks.

Re: Drilled Tactica or How to Swordmaster
You know tactically this is an interesting idea. You're throwing out some conventions but by relying on thier high initative you can seriously mess with your opponent by just shoving them suddenly forward so close that charging looks detrimental. Obviously not for evrry scenario but it seems like it...

I haven't gotten all my stuff together yet still, but I could see worrying about something like that. From my years of playing Warhammer Fantasy I just kind of accept all our elves die very quickly so I don't worry about it that much.

I am still looking at them as ways to buff troops they're inside of so one with a rasor standard for my seaguard or a battle banner for a big static combat rez troop block, etc.

Can you wear magical armor with a wizard? No, probably not. I don't even know how that would work. Your wizard might be able to wear the magical armor though! Well let's see what the rules say! :D When Ulthuan marches to war, the Swordmasters of Hoeth are led by the Wardens of Saphery, exemplars of ...
