Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.
I agree with Ramesesis, Sisters of Avelorn do a lot to bolster our shooting. Firing twice at Strength 4, Armor Piercing with Ballistic Skill 5 is incredible. The thing that keeps the unit balanced is that Sisters are one of our most expensive infantry options, and they have basically zero protection...

Re: Rules clarification on stacking ward saves in WAP
So there are a few ideas going on here. The first is yes, Parry stacks with the 6+ Dodge that all High Elf infantry get in Warhammer Armies Project. You combine both of these for a 5+ Ward. Also, if you have two hand weapons, you also get a Parry Save. It isn't just hand weapon + shield. High Elves ...

Re: Tethlis' Army Blog, back after 9 years
Oh yeah let me give a quick summary of units in WAP, to help give some background: -Great weapons are +2 Strength in first round, +1 Strength in second round, and -2 to Initiative (not Always Strikes Last.) -All Elves have a 6++ in close combat, which combines with other Ward Saves, to a maximum of ...

Re: Tethlis' Army Blog, back after 9 years
Hi Tethlis, I'm a long time fan of your battle reports so I'm glad you're active again. I don't have much to query re your latest report. Just wondering why you went with WAP rather than say 8th or the ever popular 6th - just a product of who you can get games with? Or was there something about WAP...

Re: Thoughts on Swordmasters of Hoeth (Warhammer Armies Project)
Thanks SpellArcher. Good input, and I agree. Warhammer Armies Project did an interesting thing: Ward Saves now combine, in the same way as armor. Swordmasters in WAP come with a built-in 6++ versus missile attacks (their old Parry Missiles rule.) All Elves now have a 6++ Dodge in close combat too, s...

Re: Tethlis' Army Blog, back after 9 years
Thanks for the comments, SpellArchers. I can definitely imagine it's an interesting game for you, given the armies you've played. -PG and Lions definitely seem to pair well, as long as the Lions get some durability from Shield of Saphery. The wall of 4+ Saves is significant. Lions get some very nice...

Thoughts on Swordmasters of Hoeth (Warhammer Armies Project)
I'm undecided on whether or not I like Swordmasters in Warhammer Armies Project. Their advantages and disadvantages are about the same as they've ever been, but they also come with some very interesting buffs/nerfs as a result of WAP's specific rules. Let's look: Pros: -WS6, 2 Attacks. Obviously qui...

Re: Tethlis' Army Blog, back after 9 years.
Hi All. It's been many, many years since I posted a battle report. When Games Workshop killed Warhammer Fantasy, I started playing Infinity very competitively, and that's been my main system. However, I've been jumping back into Warhammer Armies Project, both in person as well as with tabletop simul...

Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.
That's a nice writeup, Ramesesis. My reactions, in no particular order: -Daemons, especially Nurgle, are dangerous for their ability to grind. We only have a select few units that can stand up to that type of fighting, with Phoenix Guard and monsters being the most notable. Virtually all our other a...

Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.
Seems like every version of Warhammer wrestles with the too vulnerable vs too good issue on monster mounts. Thanks SpellArcher, nice to see the community is still going. I agree too, hard to find the right line. The Frost Phoenix with Anointed is a pretty extreme example, pairing the Frost Phoenix'...

Re: Facing daemons of Nurgle in WAP 2500 points
There is a specific book called Magic items that provide each race with a range of new items, among them Amulet of Light. It gives magical attacks to the hero and unit which is not of any use but it also forces the opponent to re-roll 6:s when taking ward saves. Very helpful! I overlooked this. It'...

Re: The importance (?) Battle Standard bearers and other characters in WAP and in general
I don't disagree. I think 9 Helms, and potentially more, would be the way to go. The reason I think a decent unit of Helms with Prince is still relevant is because it's far easier in the current rules for them to negate Steadfast, thanks to unit Strength and the value of Flank and Rear charges. Helm...

Re: The importance (?) Battle Standard bearers and other characters in WAP and in general
A little late to the conversation, but I generally find myself agreeing with Prince of Spires on this topic. You typically want your characters doing something that your units can't, because units are almost always more attacks and more wounds relative to the points. Prince - A flying monster-riding...

Re: Facing daemons of Nurgle in WAP 2500 points
Is the Amulet of Light a Warhammer Armies Project Item? I'm just making sure I have the most up-to-date version. If I remember correctly, that's the item that bestows Magical Attacks, I'm not sure those have a negative effect on Daemons anymore. Let me know if I'm wrong though.

Re: Warhammer Armies Project: a search for experience.
Hi All. It's been nearly a decade since I was particularly active as a Warhammer Fantasy player. I've played a bit already, and am happy to make some posts giving my High Elf experien...

Re: ET:Khaine - army lists speculation
Right, except noone will play our ridiculous End Times armies because they have no way of knowing if they're playing a fluffy list, a broken list, or a combination of the two. Structure isn't there to limit us and "hold our hands". It's there to maintain game balance. When you remove struc...

Re: Campaign of the end of times Rumors & Leaks
A good post by Swordmaster of Hoeth, one that mirrors my own reactions to these releases. In particular the idea that the Elven armies were united for retail purposes, and justified with fluff after the fact, is very apparent.

Re: Campaign of the end of times Rumors & Leaks
RogueSun covers my point. The first two hardly qualify as "thematic" lists when the third list simply includes anything and everything. Claiming that there's fluff associated with a specific list is moot when they include so much there clearly isn't much in the way of defined theme. As for...

Re: Campaign of the end of times Rumors & Leaks
My viewpoint is that I don't particularly care about GW's fluff decisions, because I stopped trusting GW years ago. I'm far more interested in how the community receives and interprets GW's choices, since it's the community that largely forms the rules around which the game is centered. GW can hunch...

Re: Building towards 2k without White Lions (Don't do it bab
Because of Swedish comp I'm used to running 18, but anywhere in the range of 18-24 is a good number without you wasting too many attacks. They are not there for combat res, they are there to kill things, and with wyssans and the razor banner they are murder. I'd say they're good for both! I general...

Re: Building towards 2k without White Lions (Don't do it bab
If your opponent brings the runemaw to deflect spells, then magic becomes unreliable. Also, for the record, our Core is great. You just have to apply and utilize it properly! If it were me at 1200 points, I would go BSB with Sword of Might and Shield of the Merwyrm, toss him in a chunky unit of Phoe...

True. The wording for the Hex Scroll doesn't say that the initial target has to be wizard, but the description of the effects does specify "enemy wizard". I'd say the Hex Scroll, sadly, wouldn't apply to Karl.Tullarion wrote:Too bad Karl's not a wizard.

I'm actually using Karl Franz in an End Times event a couple of weeks from now. It's not quite the same as a "competitive" game, but should still be an interesting experience.

Re: New High Magic - your views?
I've experimented with High as my sole lore and found it underwhelming in that context. It's very easy for opponents to prioritize and dispel and shut down the effectiveness of your phase. High is at its best in two contexts: 1) Maximizing the lore attribute. If you build a list that focuses on juic...

Re: How do we deal with Karl Franz?
I've been running a Level 4 with High and a Loremaster because I wanted to have options for any possible matchup. The new rules for Karl reassure me that I made a good choice. A single Unforging seriously hamstrings him offensively or defensively, and opens up possibilities for taking him down. Add ...
