Re: ET:Khaine - army lists speculation

Right, except noone will play our ridiculous End Times armies because they have no way of knowing if they're playing a fluffy list, a broken list, or a combination of the two. Structure isn't there to limit us and "hold our hands". It's there to maintain game balance. When you remove struc...

Re: Campaign of the end of times Rumors & Leaks

Sorry brother, but you started the talk of "community," which by it's definition is a generalization. I simply attempted to continue with your terminology, but perhaps not within the same context. If I in anyway implied you specifically had a problem with the stagnation, I apologize. Maki...

Re: Campaign of the end of times Rumors & Leaks

A good post by Swordmaster of Hoeth, one that mirrors my own reactions to these releases. In particular the idea that the Elven armies were united for retail purposes, and justified with fluff after the fact, is very apparent.

Re: Campaign of the end of times Rumors & Leaks

RogueSun covers my point. The first two hardly qualify as "thematic" lists when the third list simply includes anything and everything. Claiming that there's fluff associated with a specific list is moot when they include so much there clearly isn't much in the way of defined theme. As for...

Re: Campaign of the end of times Rumors & Leaks

My viewpoint is that I don't particularly care about GW's fluff decisions, because I stopped trusting GW years ago. I'm far more interested in how the community receives and interprets GW's choices, since it's the community that largely forms the rules around which the game is centered. GW can hunch...

Re: Building towards 2k without White Lions (Don't do it bab

Because of Swedish comp I'm used to running 18, but anywhere in the range of 18-24 is a good number without you wasting too many attacks. They are not there for combat res, they are there to kill things, and with wyssans and the razor banner they are murder. I'd say they're good for both! I general...

Re: Building towards 2k without White Lions (Don't do it bab

If your opponent brings the runemaw to deflect spells, then magic becomes unreliable. Also, for the record, our Core is great. You just have to apply and utilize it properly! If it were me at 1200 points, I would go BSB with Sword of Might and Shield of the Merwyrm, toss him in a chunky unit of Phoe...

True. The wording for the Hex Scroll doesn't say that the initial target has to be wizard, but the description of the effects does specify "enemy wizard". I'd say the Hex Scroll, sadly, wouldn't apply to Karl.

I'm actually using Karl Franz in an End Times event a couple of weeks from now. It's not quite the same as a "competitive" game, but should still be an interesting experience.

Re: New High Magic - your views?

I've experimented with High as my sole lore and found it underwhelming in that context. It's very easy for opponents to prioritize and dispel and shut down the effectiveness of your phase. High is at its best in two contexts: 1) Maximizing the lore attribute. If you build a list that focuses on juic...

Re: How do we deal with Karl Franz?

I've been running a Level 4 with High and a Loremaster because I wanted to have options for any possible matchup. The new rules for Karl reassure me that I made a good choice. A single Unforging seriously hamstrings him offensively or defensively, and opens up possibilities for taking him down. Add ...

More successful competitors? Which company would that be? As far as I can tell no company matches GW in terms of scale, market share, sales volume, profit, mind share or any other metric I can think of that measures business success. In YoY growth, profit margin, customer satisfaction, and employee...

Re: Vs Dwarfs

I disagree here. Against a noob this works, but the experienced dwarf players will block pathways to machines with their own units/characters and keep firing on elites. Machines will be screened. Units that can't be blocked like eagles will be shot by xbows or whatever auxiliary shooting he has pac...

Re: End Times - Blightkings

Are we thinking making them infantry was intentional? Seems to me like a very common WD problem: typos. It'd be very strange to see such a large based unit that wasn't MI... That was my first reaction as well. However, the Movement 4 and Unit Size 5+ actually have me leaning towards the idea that t...

Re: Vs Dwarfs

The key to success versus Dwarves is to apply appropriate pressure with your quick units, making them waste a turn (or more) of shooting just to keep their machines alive. If you have multiple units of Reavers, Silverhelms, Eagles, etc. then you're going to be able to move them into a position to ei...

Re: End Times - Blightkings

This looks like a deliberate move by GW to encourage sales via smaller unit sizes. By having them as infantry rather than monstrous infantry, they're pretty much unplayable as a large unit. A second rank that's almost as expensive as a Chimera, that puts out a mere 5 Attacks? I chuckle at the though...

Re: Korhil: Usable?

High Elf combat characters on foot are in a tough situation, generally speaking. Unless you can get Shield of Saphery in there, they're vulnerable to just about anything. That T3 is always going to be our big drawback, since it really allows volume of attacks to punish even the most heavily protecte...

Re: New High Magic - your views?

I've been using High Magic for a while now, so I feel qualified to comment. I think the Lore Attribute has to be utilized for the lore to make much sense and see a worthwhile return on its investment. Otherwise, the lack of redundancy means your opponent can control it very easily. If you don't know...

Was that back in the old awesome days where they had alternative armylists in the armybooks? such as the awesome Von Carstein undead/empire hybrid army? Yeah, they had several of those lists in the old Storm of Chaos book. The Lothern Sea Patrol, the Daemonic Legion (before they were their own book...

I love the Cult of Slaanesh. It's what originally got me playing Dark Elves, and the conversion opportunities and possibilities for a great theme army were practically limitless. I did this write up for my club's forum, summarizing the Cult's old fluff from the Storm of Chaos. On Ulthuan, the Asur's concern f...

Thanks for sharing the insight, Hinge. I'm pretty well okay with where I comped, because I know the capabilities of my list and I think it's an accurate reflection of its capability in a broad spectrum of matchups. It's always hard to form an opinion for your own list until you see where other lists...

Indeed. I used to worry a lot about comp, then ended up taking softer lists that didn't have the solutions I needed versus tough opponents. I'd rather take a list that looks good, has answers to different matchups, and that I'm familiar with. I like your list a lot though. I'm hoping you'll come in ...
