Re: The Oriour, A Painting Blog: Dragon Maidens 8-3-16

Hi msu117, thanks for the interest. Regarding the Sisters bits, I've actually got quite a bit done on that project. I've assembled 10, and am currently basecoating all of them. But a status update is in order, so behold the Dragon Maidens!!! http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b451/iaferguson86/8d09...

Re: General's Handbook - Listbuilding

Thanks for the comments! @ AlphaDecay The Sisters are now under Wanderers and are called Sisters of the Watch (don't have the book so no points). Good luck in your game with your son, let us know how it goes. BTW Sisters will ruin Skaven now that they have the Chaos keyword (Sisters get +1 to wound ...

General's Handbook - Listbuilding

I picked up the new General's Handbook over the weekend and have been reviewing the scenarios and listbuilding. Overall, I'm pretty excited about the options. The scenarios for Matched Play seem challenging. Current Army I've got planned for some games is as follows 10 Glade Guard 120 Battleline 10 ...

High Elves Last Chance to Buy

Just an FYI GW listed a ton of High Elves, Dark Elves, Wood Elves, Dwarves and Brets in the last chance to buy. https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Warhammer?N=102351+4294965240&Nu=product.repositoryId&qty=12&sorting=rec&view=table&categoryId=cat440002a-flat As an aside, I saw t...

Re: The Oriour, A Painting Blog: Griffon Prince 3-18-16

Wow has it been that long since my last update?! Things have been crazy around the house, so hobbying went to the backburner for a while. But I have not been completely idle and have even gotten into a good rhythm now that my paint station is all set. I plan on getting some more posts up here sooner...

Re: Stormcast dragon

I actually quite like it. I've always found the Elf dragons to look a bit scrawny compared to my mental image of one. This looks sufficiently bulky, almost like a komodo dragon but on a larger scale. Something worthy of the Thunderstomp rule. Also, I like the concept of the neck armor. It does make ...

Re: Awesome Monstrous Cavalry for Elfs

Intriguing! But what legs would you use for that mount? It looks sizable, so I don't think Silver Helm or Mounted noble legs would work without having to build another saddle underneath.

Maybe the Prince or mage legs from the dragon kit? Could be wide enough.

Re: The Oriour, A Painting Blog: Korhil 10-15-15

Greetings! Up next we have a converted Shadowdancer! I view the Oriour as a Pan-elven nation probably because I got back into the hobby around the time of the End Times. So naturally I have a good excuse to pick up the models I like from every Elf range. For this model, I had a goal to use Warlock r...

Re: The Oriour, A Painting Blog: Korhil

Hi all, It’s been a minute since my last post as things have been crazy in real life. But, as promised, here is my completed Korhil! I like this model, has a lot of character which is the sole reason why I purchased it. It was my first metal model in some time and I can’t say I fully enjoyed the exp...

Reworking chariots

So I've always been somewhat fond of the chariot models in Warhammer, but I always thought the rules concerning chariots made no sense, and actually discourage their use. Chariots in actual combat were used to disrupt formations by moving through the enemy, not staying stationary on one flank. If a ...

@ Jimmy Thanks, I appreciate that! Up next, my shadow warrior and sisters conversions!. I wanted to build both types of models but didn't want to buy the same box twice. So I put on my thinking cap and...looked around online for ideas. I wanted to be able to build 5 of each, and use the bits to make...

Thanks for the update! Looks like the list performed well and it was a fun tournament. How did you use the great eagles? Were they just speed bumps or did you use their soar away rule at all?

Re: The Oriour, A Painting Blog

Hi all, Up next is my a painted Lion Rider. I like the way he came out, might redo the hair at some point to give it more depth. The only thing I'm not happy about is, again, one section of the chariot lion cloak. This is now twice that this cloak has given me problems. I need to compensate more for...

Glittering Host Battalion

Has anyone tried out the Glittering Host Battalion? I haven't given it much thought until recently. Seems like it would be a great battalion to try out for an MSU style list. You could get two consecutive pile ins on one unit before they ever attack back. Given the nature of AoS combat, MSU is hard ...

Re: The Oriour, A Painting Blog

@ Jimmy Thanks! Up next are the initial models for my Panther Guard. These are White Lion conversions that are supposed to represent different regions in the Oriour's realm. I hope to have a few units in this ilk, as I'm not a fan of making 25 of one particularly model. I had my fill of that with Sk...

Hi all, So up next is my Loremaster conversion. I decided a while back that I wanted to do some sort of conversion for my Loremaster, as I don't particularly like the GW model. I've looked for inspiration all over the place, including here, but still didn't have a great idea as to what I wanted to d...

Hey all! So last time I said next post would be another lion rider but...I lied. I recently put together some characters and I wanted to post these first. Re: Why I use spearmen

I think something that gets lost when looking at AoS is that out of the box it's not a game where you make up an army the day before and play that force. Instead, it's looking at what your opponent is deploying, what the terrain is, and what the scenario is and choosing what units (and how many) to ...

Re: The Oriour, A Painting Blog

So here are some mounted princes/nobles I've put together. Lions! I love the chariot kit, so many kitbashing possibilities. And the prince/noble kit! And the mage kit! The flexibility of the entire Elf range from GW is one of the main reasons I started up on High Elves. Whether you use HE, DE, or WE...

Re: The Oriour, A Painting Blog

Hi guys, thanks for the comments. Shading is definitely an area I need to work on. When I put in the effort I love the way it comes out. The hardest part is getting myself to do it. I always feels like I'm up against a deadline as I can only paint at night for a few hours (if that). Sometimes that m...

Re: Away on Campaign. My High Elves renewed

Whenever they attach the legs to the mount I feel like it's a lost opportunity for some great conversions. It almost breaks my heart that the DE Warlock models have the legs attached. You could conceivably cut the Warlock ones off and do something with them, but certainly not the Dragon Princes, the...

Re: Away on Campaign. My High Elves renewed

I like it. Your shading on the purple bits for the standard bearer are great, really understated yet apparent.

I think the skin on the archer is fine. He is a militiaman, probably spends all day in a field, so darker skin makes sense.

Re: The Oriour, A Painting Blog

As promised, here is the completed Prince with Great Weapon. I'm really happy with how he came out. I freehanded the eyebrows on the severed head to make him look scared/concerned/surprised. Little blood to sell the conceit. You can't really tell in the pictures but I gave the head purple eyes. Only...

Re: High Elves Synergies in AoS

@ Ducking Sounds good! If you could let us know here how that works out, as I'd love an excuse to buy three dragons! Reminds me of the flying circus lists from 8th. The one thing I'd say that list could be vulnerable against is turtled war machines or massed shooting. You don't have any range to for...

Re: The end of free army books...already?

I can still access the Stormcast rules on GW's website. You have to go to the individual models page to find them. I don't think they've ever had a complete compendium, though. That's just for the "old" armies.

Re: The Oriour, A Painting Blog

@ Giladis Thanks! @ Elithmar Thanks as well! Sadly, no, there will be no blood on the axe. I've never had a lot of luck putting blood on metal and making it look good. The head, though, will have a look of surprise and terror, and yes, some blood. Way I've justified that incongruity is that, after r...
