And attachment are enabled, with images being shown inline. As a test, I added a few on this post. The size limit per image is 2 and max 5 files per post. If these limits need to change, let me know. It is possible to add automatic compression on the images but i have not activated that. I could inc...

Re: Spam The most effective spambot measure at the moment is a Q&A method. I tried the recaptcha method for Druchii.net and have never seen so many bots come through :D Another option is to hook it up to a Google service, but I have no experience with that one. Re: Quick Reply Yes, it's a good f...

Re: Upgrading the forum
The upgrade on Druchii.net was successful. We still need to improve the visuals, but technically everything seems to be in order.
I would like to plan the upgrade for ulthuan next. Does Tuesday sound good?
The forum will be down for a few hours during the upgrade.

Re: Upgrading the forum
I'll prepare a migration to phpBB 3.2. I've just done the experiment on Dnet, and I can get it to work. This is a solid short term solution that doesn't exclude any long(er) term options. For Discourse, my main concern is cost. Full disclosure: Right now, the hosting cost is 20$/mo to host 4 sites: ...

Re: Upgrading the forum
If preferred I can upgrade to phpBB 3.2 instead of 3.3, which seems to be supported by the migration tool and should be sufficient to remove the support cost. That way we remove the cost (and urgency) and keep our options open in the future. Of course, if your mind is already made up on Discourse, t...

Upgrading the forum
Greetings everyone, I wish to announce that the upgrade of the forum is being scheduled by the end of july or august. The platform we're currently using is becoming so old we're being charged extra by the host to keep the legacy server running. The same forum software is used on Druchii.net. Druchii...

Re: Forum Resurrection Advice
For those interested, the same post was made on Druchii.net, the other Elven forum that is hosted on the same server. I am examining if it's an option for Druchii.net. Our current host does not support Docker (a requirement for Discourse). If we are to move to Discourse, then a new host must be foun...

Re: Photobucket Third Party woes as described by Nicodemus
The first test runs of my programs seem to work. I should be able to automatically scan the entire history of the forum and attempt to download the pictures from photobucket.... provided they still exist (which isn't always the case). The second step will be to reintegrate them in the post with a ne...

Re: Photobucket Third Party woes as described by Nicodemus
Sorry for the slow update. I was on a vacation. I have a way to extract all the links to photobucket from our forum, but the list is pretty big. So I started writing a script that, given a photobucket image link, stores the image locally. If I can get that to work, then at least the images themselve...

Scratch that. A new test showed I have at least 8000 posts with a linked image. Whether it is hotlinked is another matter though.

Re: Photobucket Third Party woes as described by Nicodemus
These are all the posts I could find with a photobucket URL in them. If you know of ANY other URL and linked photobucket image, let me know. It means my scan was incomplete (which might be important to save the images). Don't fix the images just yet. I'll do a similar assessment over at Druchii and ...

Re: Photobucket Third Party woes as described by Nicodemus
I'll try to look for a less labour intensive solution. Automatically turning photobucket images into attachments seems like a nice solution, if I can get the code to work, but I think it still requires you to repost every post that has them. I'll try something easier tomorrow.

Re: Is it any good
My main beef was the pile in method of combat. In all the games I played, eventually it just became one huge fight somewhere on the battlefield where the majority of models would battle things out. Skirmished units did create a level of tactical feel for the battles, but frequently the tactics came...

Re: Is it any good
I quite like it, and it still feels like a fantasy wargame. It's still very tactical. For one, it's easier to play with faints, retreats and counter-attacks. How you play the synergy between units is more important than in WFB in a way. But it is less technical. In WFB you could angle a unit to cont...

Re: Static Res in 8th
By increasing static CR with unit size, Elven core might just lose out in the meta. At our point per model, cheaper units can do the "same" job more easily. The alternative is bringing such an excess in killing power, that you take down units outright. With our defensive capabilities, that...

Re: Merging a bit more with Druchii and Asrai?
Well.. there's that. And the technical challenge. The merger of the forums requires the merger of two databases, without creating conflicts. These kind of operations are not supported by default software, so it will require a lot of handiwork on my part. I do have professional experiences with datab...

Re: Server transfer
End Times ... horrible ... Another question, if you don't mind. The way it looks from the point of view of an ordinary forum member is that people post on druchii as they used to, those on ulthuan the same so that there is no "one forum to rule them all". But are there any plans to revita...

That lies just outside the comfort zone for a quick migration, so it'll be either a brief downtime (a couple of hours?) or a more complex migration which includes an update.

Re: You probably never saw this coming
I doubt it is Naggie's intention to remain at Asrai.druchii.net. In theory.. I think it's possible to cut down the downtime of ulthuan.net. Ricold, how large is the database? Unless I'm mistaken, what we could do is do a file migration (and include the db for giggles), but disable the forum on the d...
