Re: griffon prince

Agree with SpellArcher, mostly. Not quite sure about the core setup because you only have two infantry units to hide the mage in and both are combat-oriented. If you're not putting the Sea Guard into combat, Archers would probably be a better bunker. I'd be tempted to swap them for a unit of archers...

Re: Malossar's off to Southern Assault!

Interesting list. Do you find that the Daemonhunter Helm is worth it over Dawnstone + Dragonhelm/Enchanted Shield? Why HA on the Spears? Is it because it combos well with the Frosty? How are you finding the Prince of Ryma + Knights of Ryma? How do the Swordmasters do? Lastly, the mage bunkers look a...

Re: How do you rate HBE v1.0

Yeah, rare is crowded. ABC preference would be to shift eagles to special. RT did give a reason for why this didn't happen, can't recall it but could check. ABC also have some items on their radar. What love would you like to phoenixes? RE: other armies - my stock response is to ask their ABC/AS ab...

Re: How do you rate HBE v1.0

I think the HBE is pretty good, with only a few issues. The number of units in rare is dismaying though. I'd also like to see a few of the magic items reworked and for the phoenixes to get a little love. I do find myself annoyed by some of the other army books though. Some magical items such as the ...

Re: Host of Giladis in 9th Age 2500 pts

I'd second the recommendation for metal. The ranged threat is good, the augments and hexes are useful and the lore attribute is amazing. My only concern is that you don't have a unit which really benefits from the attribute. Archers might find it useful in a shooting duel but the White Lions and Pho...

Ding Dong Horribly On High Game Three - Skaven Slightly to my surprise, I found myself on table four for the last game, facing off against the evil ratties! As my opponent said, it was (largely) a Clan Skryre list, which in the time of 6th Edition meant bent but nowadays something more reasonable. ...

Any chance of some battle reports? I miss Shadow in the North... Hah, I had no idea people ever watched those videos. Short answer is no. Long answer is, my MacBook died and work signed a contract with a PC company, so no more keynote which made battle reporting so much quicker (sit down and talk)....

So I took that last list to the last v.11 tournament: http://warscore.net/event/272/view.html?results=20160316131155 3rd overall, best HBE. Had the Saurian Ancient player on table 1 in the last round and had both his general and BSB (both on dinos) down to LD 2 break checks and he passed them BOTH!...

Re: Host of Giladis in 9th Age 2500 pts

Giladis, how does a list like this play? I usually only have much less Infantry, 2-3 units of Cavalry, lots more chaff and shooting. Even with all that I find the chaff war an uphill struggle playing against some armies like Beastmen. I just can't wrap my head around the list; how do you stop oppon...

After becoming very disappointed with AoS, I put Warhammer on hold.. So, what is the view on 9th vs 8th? Recent comments about version 0.99 are quite frankly discouraging. I have a large High Elf model collection and not sure I want to bother opening my unpainted boxes. If 9th doesn't look promisin...

Re: Cardiff Gt 20 - 21 Feb

I've been wondering how good the Helm Bus is now. Obviously World Dragon is a hit but not a terminal one I suspect. Maybe Mr Payne simply rates MSU higher now? I played with Helm Bus + Elite Inf + support for most of my 8th ed Tournament games. Losing the banner was bad, but LR instead of ASF, no M...

From what I know of Jamie Payne, he traditionally plays Cav armies. For example, Brets for the 2015 Australian masters and Cav bus HE for the 2015 ETC. I've got no idea why the change to MSU. Maybe he had a bet on with Swordmaster :D?

Re: Sheffield Slaughter

In itself I don't think slow infantry will win the game. They lack some crucial things to do so. But if you have to take slow infantry as part of your army, it pays if they are a strong choice that can actually do something. It's the reason why in 8th you wouldn't see spearmen (or LSG) in a HE list...

Re: Sheffield Slaughter

It's worth mentioning that some of the options in the SA book look reasonable on their own but get really nasty when spammed or combined with other abilities. The engine of the gods can reduce the casting value of a lore by 2. Seems reasonable until you combine it with a slann with +4 to cast and ex...

I really like the your Prince build, survivable, 8 spells and a good combat character. Just out of interest, have you noticed that BSBs can now take up to 50 points of Magic Items and Magic Banners or a magic banner worth 50+ points? I'm fine with sharing servers. If it'll work and saves money, it makes sense. I actually think that merging the forums, but keeping a few HE, WE and DE sections is a great idea. With the lack of forum traffic on Ulthuan, I've been paying more attention to the HBE section of the 9th age forum. I'd be...

I like both. But for anything other than a full avoidance list, I'd go Reapers first. The reason being that Bolt Throwers can keep heavily armored characters honest and hiding in units/terrain/out of LoS.

Re: Kit for Ancient Dragon

The Lucky Shield and Divine Icon are both worth considering. The shield allows the bearer's model to ignore the first hit suffered. This doesn't help much if the first hit is a S3 arrow, but you'll be happy on the occasions it eats a cannonball or stone thrower hit. The Icon gives Divines Attacks to...

It's not a list I'd be comfortable running. You have some good elements, but the lack of S6+, reliance on Keepers of the Flame as the main combat block, unsupported Loremaster and low number of re-directors make me nervous. I think you'll do fine against balanced lists, but will really struggle agai...

As I understand it, in 9th an attribute is essentially a free second spell which is cast each time you successfully cast a spell. Because it's separate it doesn't have to target the same unit as the main spell, so you can cast Flaming Sword on a unit then use the attribute on any enemy unit which f...
